Capt Harlock I'm in florida but it's a bit of a hike to get up to you or for you to come down. (3 or 4 hour drive?) Somewhere around there if I remember correctly.

I'm hoping to get a group going down here too. I posted this in the "local art chapters" thread but this seems like a great place for it also.
_____

I've been wanting to start a sketch group in Fort Lauderdale FL for a while now. We have a fairly large warehouse where we can set up for still life and possibly models at some point. If there is enough local interest I would be more than happy to make it happen. If anyone would like to get it going please send me a pm.

I have the lamps and several easels. Also a fuil sized mannequin and many tables and chairs.
______

The area would be south florida. Our shop is in Fort Lauderdale but a reasonable driving range would include anywhere from Boca Raton to Miami. Both locations are under an hour depending on traffic. I was thinking of sat or sundays but when the group forms we can all vote on when would would be the best time for everyone.

I'm going to put together a flyer soon and put them up at the local colleges. Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, FAU, BCC, and Nova.

Can't wait til we get this going. It will be a great learning experience! You can never practice too much and it's always cool to meet others who want to learn and share their knowledge.

Turokess thats a beautiful area. I have friends who live in Oldsmar and I've fished Safety Harbor many many times. My favorite part about visiting Oldsmar is every morning you can watch the dolphins right from the living room window. Are you familiar with Shore Drive Place? They live on that road... very nice area.

hey beatnik, i am up for an FTL group meeting...

date and time is all i need.

i have talked with you before. i am at AiFL.... so if you would like to me promote there i can.

I am pretty active in the school (not student government). i do weekly software training (3d) and organize companies to come to the school. sooo getting everyone to come out to this sketch group would be no problem.. the school has a life drawing lab on wed. at 6. i could get these students to join in. and also the ones that cant make it to the wed @ 6pm come to the "conceptart" group.

check your pm also

alright where are all the Ringling/Sarasota people at?? Anyone at all in the immediate Tampa/Bradenton/Sarasota/St.Pete area? I see Toaster, Velo seems close by... I'd like to at least once hook up with some CA folks and make some connections. I guess maybe it's time I get off my ass and go to FEWS!! :flamig:

on a side note there should be CA.org sub-divisions in each of the different states/countries, kinda like the AIGA or something. The main branch is in Austin, then we can have little groups outside of that with a president, secretary, etc... then each group can set up their own little workshops and such. maybe i should bring that to Jason's attention?

Jane Radstrom
July 3rd, 2004, 07:16 PM
I dont know about such organization as that, right now anyone can make a post and get together at someone's house for sketch sessions or talk to a pro about getting together and doing a demo for some people locally. If we had chapters and presidents and secretaries and formal mini-workshops there would be (I think) insurance and legal worries, where some ass could come and I dont know.. sit one someone's exacto and try to sue or something. Keep it informal. :)

I would love to get together for sketchgroups sometimes! I'm near Tampa (Clearwater) I wouldn't mind going to Sarasota, or possibly other places. I hear FEWs meets three days a week during summer and is only $15 for membership all summer, it is far for me to drive regularly but if we picked a day to meet up and do some life drawing together I would definitely be up for it.

CKWorth
July 4th, 2004, 11:05 AM
Yeah, Velo I'm really close to you, I'm around Oldsmar. It would be great if a sketchgroup could get going. It was pretty depressing coming back from Austin and having nothing like their sketchgroup here. Maybe all the Ringling kids don't really need a sketchgroup outside of what they already have, like FEWS. It felt like one big sketchgroup for the whole four years I was there, anyway. For someone like me who's out of school now I miss the interaction. Location wise, having one in Tampa would be wonderful. Sarasota might be doable, but it's an hour away from me. Ft. Lauderdale is 4 hours.

These are the places I go to. BTW I'm in St. Petersburg for the summer.

Monday 3:00pm RSAD / Sarasota - FEWS
Monday (only first Monday of the month) 6:30pm Hide Park / Tampa - 3 hour figure drawing session
Wednesday 6:00pm Artists Unlimited / Tampa - 3 hour figure drawing session
Thursday 6:30pm Eckerd College / St. Petersburg - 3 hour figure drawing session
Thursday 3:00pm RSAD / Sarasota - FEWS
Saturday 9:00am Art Center / St. petersburg - 3 hour figure drawing session

I don't go to FEWS because it's an hour away in Sarasota. I go to these with my friends. It's like me and a bunch of guys who go to the San Fran Academy and RISD. If your interested PM me (especially if you have a car)!

It's fairly simple if you already know some HTML. The code this message board utilizes is similar in structure... try this:

[ img=http://www.host.org/images/image.jpg ] - just remove the spaces and replace the http:// with where ever you host your images. Pretty easy, eh?

On a side note, I'll be moving to St Petersburg very soon. That should be awesome as I don't really like living in the mid-to-north-Tampa area any more. I have to drive too far to get to anything fun!

:nohope: that didn't work... try photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com)

try your image link like this... (sorry the earlier one was an old adaptation of the code.. this one will definately work.)

(img)http://www.blabla.com/image/image.jpg(/img)

just change the ( to [ and ) to ] and you're all set!

again, sorry about that before. You can just go back and edit your post to fix it. Try to get the picture on screen by itself. from examining the URL you used to link your photo, it wasn't a direct link to the photo.. you may have more luck at the aformentioned photobucket in getting more of an absolute URL for your pictures. They also have awesome features that generate your code for you. :bashful:

I think it would be nice to start something like this, if there isn't. I am moving to Saint Petersburg on the 24th to be closer to cultural activities of this sort & to reduce the length of my commute to work and other activities.

Anyway, your image link worked, but if you're hosting with photobucket, they actually provide you the code to drop into the board. it's the second line where they give you code in those [ brackets ].

We'll go to some public places and do life drawing. We'll draw from models. We'll pull images from our brains. We'll bounce off of each other and make artistic goodness! Hey Alex. I kinda wimped out last week. Had to go into work at 5am on Friday (which meant get up at 4). That threw off my Thursday and my Saturday. Anyway, I'll be there this week ready to draw away. The Baywalk thing sounds good to me.

There's a show at the Ringling museum of master drawings that would be awesome to see. Maybe we can arrange a trip to that soon. It could be a good first official group excursion.

The gallery represents lots of figurative artists such as Clayton Beck (http://www.claytonjbeckiii.com) as well as some Ringling peeps (at least one student and one animation teacher that I'm aware of is represented).

Steen, BlackPress, anyone up for it?

Hey Steen,
Downtown Sarasota was crazy packed...holiday parades gallore. Bad night to have the reception. The main artist was a noshow most likely coz he got lost with most of the roads closed off for the parade.

I was really impressed with Dominic Avant. He's a Ringling animation teacher and former disney animator. This nude (http://www.dominicavant.com/portrait/images/Nude.jpg) was awesome in person. If I had $8k I'd have bought it.

The gallery has a figure drawing/painting open studio (http://www.mstudiosarasota.com/)on Thursday nights and costs $5/hr if anyone in the area is interested. Its too far for me to do on a regular basis.

Hmm, my last post came off kinda dorky. Anyway, where'd everybody go? I'm still drawing in St. Pete on Saturdays. What happened to the group?

Bradenton here, I love the ringling museum and would love to go to the school sometime next year. Ugh. If only they had online schooling...

If you're in Florida you should check out the Bouguereau exhibit in Ocala at the Appleton Museum (http://www.appletonmuseum.org). It runs thru May 27. I'm planning on going again. For $6 it is so worth it. I wasn't counting but I'd say there were at least 20 Bouguereaus and another 20-25 paintings by his american students. Some of the Bouguereau paintings included were:

self portrait (http://www.artrenewal.org/images/artists/b/Bouguereau_William/large/Portrait_de_lartiste.jpg)
Jeune Bergere (http://www.artrenewal.org/images/artists/b/Bouguereau_William/large/Jeune_bergere_CA.jpg)
Pastourelle (http://www.artrenewal.org/images/artists/b/Bouguereau_William/large/Pastourelle.jpg)

I know it seems useless but I'ld like to inform the other Aritst in the Big Bend Area Gadsden County Leon County area that I'd love to sketch with you guys anytime.

I currently reside in Tallahassee, yes its no ART mecca but it suites me fine. So if your in the area passing through or events come up in or around definitely definitely. I'll try to make it.

Hey everyone, I'm in Gainesville myself. (ya know University of Florida, 2 time basketball and football champs... sorry couldn't resist). Kind scanned the messages, wow a lot of you are in either Orlando or St. Petersburg. I used to live in Orlando about 3 years ago now. I kinda miss it though. I went to school there @ Full Sail.. boy was that a waste of money... that place I don't miss. Don't go there, all they want is to push you through the program and take your money.

Anywho. drop me a line someone. email is Gatorartgal@yahoo.com

I'm not dead! I just moved across town. That sucked away an amazing amount of time. Must. . . draw. . . again.

Has everyone from Florida disappeared?

Ringling students?

The last post in Florida, the greatest state, should not be from 2007

If anyone in the Bradenton/Sarasota area still interested in starting a sketchgroup - Drawing Concepts, Comics or whatever, holler at me. I'm doing the Mr. Mom thing until schools starts up (pretty soon) and I need the artistic camaraderie. Even when school starts I'll need a outlet from animation. Most of my Ringling buddies are hardcore animators where as I walk the fence between that and illustration and illustration is winning my free time at the moment.

Yeah, easy to lose inspiration (living example) with no art geeks around. I'm in St. Pete.
