Hey All,
First - I got my ass beaten by my opponent in the Thunderdome. Two votes to one. Sigh. I'm bummed. Ooooh....but I, I will survive....blahde, blahde, blah.
Second - Pre and I were talkin' about changin' the drawing scene up a bit. There's a place in Pioneer Square callled All City Coffee. They serve coffee and beer, so the choice is totally choice. The one caveat is their hours. They're open from 6am - 11pm Monday - Friday; 7am - 7pm on Saturday; 8am - 7pm on Sunday. So, my suggestion is to open the Friday night drawing session to All City Coffee and keep the Saturday night drawing at Cafe Vita.
http://www.allcitycoffee.com/
Click on the 'Pioneer Square' location. It's at 125 Prefontaine Place S.
Just food for thought. I won't be there this Friday, but perhaps it can start something new.
I'm going to go drown my sorrow in a deep cup of java.
Cheers,
D

I've been trying to get you bastards to incorporate booze into the scene for almost a year. I will show up to Friday meets when I get back if we start having them at All City! You've gotta remember, I'm a sailor, all you have to do is mention booze and I'm there. Do they do hard alcohol i.e. Vodka? Anyone down for going to Tini Biggs when I get back?

So, I made it to the second round of the last man standing, but I’m going up against Jmascho who should be a really tough opponent. But I think I can take him. :painting:
All City sounds like a good plan. Are you guys planning on meeting there this Friday?

I vote we try the new location for the upcoming Friday meeting on the 9th. It's four blocks from where I live, and beer is a nice change.
We can let everyone know on the Saturday meeting, in case some people don't check the thread and show up at Vita.

hey groover,
it's this friday at 8 [or whenever it starts. guys?] at All City Coffee @ 125 Prefontaine Place South, Seattle WA 98104. punch that into google maps. the cafe is in the Pioneer Square district, so ask anyone about it in case you get lost.
directions: since i'm not sure where you're coming from, get on 1st avenue to start. [most of downtown is north of pioneer square, so chances are you will head south on 1st.] take 1st avenue to yesler way, and turn left [east, away from the water] to 3rd avenue. 3rd avenue intersects Prefontaine Place. follow that street south a bit, and you should be there.
if it helps, pm me and i'll give ya my phone number, just in case the zombies in pioneer square get in the way :) it's also late, and sense typing confusing not clear.

edit: going to see a band at bumbershoot at 8:30 pm - 9:45 pm, but i will try to stop by before or afterwards

Aaaaw, I missed the big gathering tonight! Shame on me for not checking this thread more often.
Is anyone going to the Women in Games International convention tomorrow at Microsoft is Redmond, from 1pm-6pm? I will be there, and I'd love to catch any of you to hang out with. It's entirely free, too! Here's driving and parking directions:
Parking Information
Conference attendees should park in the parking lot for Microsoft Red West Building A. The Red West building is to the northeast of Building A.
Directions to Microsoft from Seattle-Tacoma Airport
Follow signs to freeways; this will put you on SR 518 eastbound, and you'll want to merge carefully.
Follow signs to I-5 and I-405.
Take the I-405 North-Renton exit (exits from center lane).
Continue on north I-405 through Renton and Bellevue (approx. 14 miles).
Take SR-520 east exit toward Redmond.
Exit SR-520 at NE 51st St. exit.
Turn left at end of ramp onto NE 51st St.
Turn right at light onto 148th Ave. northbound, and the Microsoft Red West campus entry is the first driveway on the right.
Turn left at the T-intersection and follow the signs to Building A parking. The Red West building is to the northeast of Building A.

hey sapphire -
tonight it's all city coffee - read backwards to find the url and location details. i'm lazy and don't feel like reposting stuff. at 11pm, all city coffee closes down and i was suggesting moving the crew to the oasis tea zone which is in the international district across from uwajimaya. it's open until 2am. zach really wants to do karaoke, but i don't think they have that there. there is a place up the street though.... :P kidding zach....i wouldn't want to hear you sing. lol.
as for a ride, sapphire.....um.....in town and bothell don't equate in my book. in town is queen anne, first hill, pill hill, etc. you're way out there. can't you get your parent's car? i feel for you since you are always asking and i'm not seeing anyone respond. put some pressure on the parents. i dunno.

I'd just rather not ask my folks, because a) there's some really strange stuff happening with my family at the moment, and b) I already ask so much of my dad driving-wise, since I live in Bellingham and all, that I just feel guilty. 1) I've gotten pretty nasty cold over the last couple of days that's making me feel like smashed @$$
2) I don't have a place to crash over night and there's no way that I'm going to go down there, hang out and leave early to drive all the way back up to Whidbey with gas prices at almost $3 a gallon.
We'll play it by ear over the next couple of days.. unless I can find a place to crash and I feel allot better in the next 48 hrs I'm not going to be able to make it out. Either way, it was great seeing you all this past weekend, it was just what I needed after 4 months away from home.

One of the classes is figure drawing, so that's shaping me up a bit more. I'm also starting two jobs this week, so I've been all busy and such. I haven't really been updating my sketchbook much, though I'm not sure people look at it... either way, I have stuff up at my deviantart site.
My friend and I are trying to get the comp. science department and the art department to have kind of a joint thing, so us artists can take 3D modeling... the professor really loved the idea, so it might actually go through!

Hey Everyone!
Man....reading your comments regarding the passing of my cousin was most heartfelt and warm. Thank you all! This is a serious shout-out to all of you to never see life as bleak or to feel so alone that you cannot talk to anyone. You can. Family, friends, crisis centers and so forth. You and I and everyone else are not alone.
The trip back was taxing and strengthening at the same time. Family was in full force and we came from all over the US to be there to say farewell to someone so young, age 19. We all mourned, grieved, supported and laughed our way through the past 2 days I was present. I'm slammed with work, class, and freelance, but I'm 100% here, present and accounted for and will remember how important communication and family and friends are. Thank you for showing what friends are all about. I'll most likely not be present this week so as to play catch up on work, et al....but I'll do my best to be there next Friday. Again....thanks guys.
All the best,

Hey I just thought I'd mention Costco is selling cheap portable easels for $31.00 plus tax ( regularly $39 but they're doing a 8 dollar off thing right now) and for a first easel or for someone interested in plein air painting or life painting classes it's a pretty good deal and the quality's not too bad either.
It's basically just like any wooden full size portable fold out easels you'd see at an art store, maybe a little less sturdy. OK I just thought I'd throw that out there so have at it. :)

Does anyone own any of the Digital titles from the Gnomon workshop series?
I've been thinking about getting some and didn't know if they were 'worth it'. They certainly LOOK worth it!
In addition to this, I was also thinking that it'd be sweet to have a few of us buy a couple of the DVDs and then all get together to watch on the biggest screen possible to watch and learn together, have open chatting, etc. The lectures are around 2.5 - 4 hrs, so it'd be a full night. For those that have purchased the video, it would be slick for peeps to put a few bucks in to pay to view, so to speak. Cost of the DVDs are average out to $60 each.

I'm doing two costumes this year... the one from last year cause I never got to wear it out, and then a super-mega-impromptu one for a work costume contest, with the theme of TV sitcoms. I hope Futurama counts, cause I'm going to be making smoothies as Leela all day. :D

Besides, the paintings are starting to ask where they came from. Mommy? And if you don't want your paintings back, let me know too and i can try selling them on ebay for $$ :) jk
Anyway, I can meet you at one of the sketch nights, or we can arrange pickup/dropoff. I live in queen anne in Seattle and work in Bellevue. lemmeh know.

KIM ROCKS!!! I'd recommend taking a class with her, she's an incredible sculptor and has a wealth of knowlege to share. Quick story; I shared space with her for a day back in 98. I was doing some thumbnails and drawing for a MTG miniatures game and the only available desk, was where she was working, down in what we affectionately called "Siberia". I asked her a question about process and anatomy on dragons.. 2 hours later I learned just about everything I could about the the various bits of anatomy in lizards, horses and bats that go into constructing a full size dragon sculpture... needless to say, I barely got any drawing done.

Re: Kim Graham - my boss, Jon, just got an email from Kim this morning. Small world!
At any rate, the info from the email is listed below. Get a group and go! I'll be out of town, so you'll have to tell me all about it.
Hello, this letter is to announce that I am having a Studio Opening and Art Show. This will be from 10am to 8pm on December 10th. This is my very first chance to show off most of the work that I've have made this year.
The address is:
Kim Graham
6004 12th Ave S
Seattle Wa 98108
This is actually on the corner of Airport Way and S Vale.
It is also under the Michagan/Corson St exit off of I-5
Please come and see the new Georgetown Studio. It is a classic artist live/work space; an old, turn of the century brick building, high ceilings, large windows and a view that is downright industrial (though my space does have a view of one tree in the parking lot across the street :))
It is located above the highly chic All City Coffee, and a record store, remarkable because they still seem to be doing thriving business in the age of CDs
One year ago I made a Big Switch away from "special effects" to the field of Ceramics. It has been wonderful, exciting and a tremendous learning experience. There are more than 50 original pieces here from small classic torsos to the most recent; a large, impressive Pre-Raphaelite fire place surround. It is my hope to enter into the field of Architectural Ceramics and revive some of the grand styles of a century ago.
Check out my new web site for a preview of the work:
www.kimgrahamstudios.com
best regards,
Kim Graham :)

Has anyone else been having trouble logging on to ca? I haven't been able to for the longest time, and it just let me. I have a lot to catch up on! I've been taking four project-oriented classes, so I've been very busy, but unfortunately the work I'm making I feel is just... eh. It bores me for the most part, except the figure drawing stuff, which is at school right now so I can't show it here. My final projects should be done soon and I'll be posting them in my sketchbook.
YAY, the COW! I missed the cow, and thunderdomes... and all that stuff. I feel like I've been away for too long, but I haven't had time to do it, nor the drive. Once finals are overwith, however, and I'm on break, I'll be showing my mug around sketch nights again and around the site.

Hello everyone, dunno if this is even where I should post this. :dur:
I go to Northwest College of Art in Poulsbo. I am a senior now and I am getting a lot closer to graduating in August. I started looking at these boards over a year ago but I have not really had the confidence in my work to post any of it here. I was going to try to make it to a sketch night in Seattle some time but being a student doesn't always lend itself to having lots of free time.
So I figured now is the time to start to utilize this great resource you guys have started here. If you guys want to see some of my work check out my web site at

Tell me what you guys think. BTW I did the web design and flash for my site too. Just wish I had more time to spend on it.

Gahz: start up a sketch book thread in the appropriate forum. Post whatever pieces you like and allow this site to bolster your courage and spur you onward to always improve. Be confident, we all have to start somewhere. :)
I'd also say it'd be worthwhile to post your photos in the Photography forum here...they're your strongest of your entire site. The lusty lady was hysterical!
And last but not least, come out to the sketch groups.....good time and you'd be most welcome.
All the best,

Happy new years folks. I may be getting deployed AGAIN next week so I'm not sure when I'll be able to make it down for another sketch group. If I'm not deployed, is anyone down for finding a new spot to hang at? I'm sure that there are plenty of other locations out there with great lighting, tables we can sit at, and booze galore. This is all in the interrest of creating a larger turnout than we've been having, and the fact that Vita's has been frigging packed everytime we've gone in the last 3 months. All City is pretty damn cool but it's location is pretty out of the way and I know that we're going to need to lure some people in with booze and a more social atmosphere.

I was sitting around in the tub thinking about fun games we in washington can play. I think i found one!
Find A location that is unique to that area. Sketch it out and post it on the boards. Other people have to figure out where the sketch is (and if possible get a photo graph of that location). If you got the right location then you can post a new sketch of a new location.
Rules:
1. Has to be a UNIQUE area so no Drawing your local Startbucks, grocery store, gas station, bank, ect.
2. Has to be accessable by everyone so sorry Military boys and girls, no drawing your Barracks.
3. Must wait until the original artist conferms that you have the right location before posting your sketch.
4. If a week has alapsed without anyone naming the location, hints may be droped.
5. Must be in Washington.
6. Needs to be within an hour drive of your home.
7. Must be easily seen by the street. If you can't see it driving or walking by then it may be hard to identify.
8. IT MUST EXIST!
what does everyone think? I would start the game myself but i have the flu and am bed ridden for a while =(

Cool idea, but in my case 10 hrs of my day are spent on base, I come right home after work and have no free time aside from business related tasks on a daily basis. My weekends (when I'm able to have one) consist of unwinding a bit and drawing what I feel like drawing while I'm hanging out with friends down in Seattle which is a 2 hr. commute from home to Seattle to begin with. There are allot more details to it than that but I wont bore you with them all.
I recommend revising the requirements to drawing any location a minimum of 1/week and guessing is not required. This is mainly to help facilitate any of our out of state members, full time slaves, and any other folks that want to jump in but don't live in the immediate Seattle area. With those conditions, I'm totally game but the other rules would make it a pain in the ass for me to draw anything but the ferry terminals or the ferry itself as those are the only times that I'm not in motion and might be familiar to anyone else.
The low down on old semi regular members are as follows
Bojee is going to school in Baltimore; Jetpack, One2hit, and Ben go to school in Cali; Skrubbles and Tag live in Kirkland; Prehistoric, Red, Cake, and Xia are in the downtown Seattle area.

Well unfortunatly the main reason i say it has to be accessable by EVERYONE is becasue, just because we may live next to the base, getting onto the military base is another matter.
I spend alot of time in Seattle myself, but only at the U-Dubb on saturday nights.

Any idea when the next sketch group is going to be?
Also wanted to say that I am going to get some stuff together to start a sketch book thread, hopefully, this weekend. I will put a link to it in my sig when it gets up and I would appreciate C&C from you all.
Hopefully I will make my first appearance at the next sketch group.
Cheers!

I’m going to be snowboarding at Stevens all day tomorrow, but if I’m not completely exhausted by the time I get home I’ll go to vitas.

Translated roughly into Eli speak.. "My girlfriend has me totally whipped but I'll try my damdest to use an alternate excuse as to appear more manly.";) j/k I have a retarded amount of work to do and will be unable to make it this weekend. I have duty next weekend and will be unable to go to the Friday group, and odds of me coming out for the next Saturday session are slim as it's the first game of the playoffs for the Seahawks on Sunday.

I swear the sports teams here purposely lose for a few seasons so you stop caring and then.........
:perv: Like a deer staring at head lights....
We all start to watch so they can lose at the last minute. :(
Lets hope I am wrong this year (for once).

You'd better knock on wood or I'm going to be forced to pimp slap you at the next sketchgroup that you're there;) j/k I started following the Seahawks 3 years ago and really caring last year when there was no hockey season. Regardless, good to have a new member to the WA sketch group. I hope to see you soon.

Just started my sketchbook thread. If anything so far it showed me just how much I need to start drawing everyday.

i'm making a command decision:
next week friday's sketch group is going to be at Oasis Tea Zone to change things up a bit. if i don't see you there, i'll assume you're at all city coffee.
great atmosphere, across from uwajimaya and open much later than vita or all city. get great bubble tea drinks, play games, lounge or play pool. btw, excellent lighting. and did i say it's across from uwajimaya? book store and fun sights. the ID is where it's at folks.
i want to go there right now. maybe i will and just forego vitas.....hmmmm.....don't know.
here's a url to get the location down (map is at the right of the screen) and you can read 2 reviews:

We all listen to music on here, we could start a seattle conceptart group. It's a free plugin that works with your music player.

Sorry I didn't make it Red, I am still waiting for my financial aid check from my school. So, till I get more money I am kinda grounded here in Poulsbo.
