What is Sketchcrawl? (http://www.sketchcrawl.com/blog/?page_id=3)
What do you bring to a sketchcrawl? (http://www.sketchcrawl.com/blog/?page_id=4)
To find/start a Sketchcrawl in your area (http://www.sketchcrawl.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=25)
To the Sketchcrawl forum (http://www.sketchcrawl.com/forum/index.php)
The above links should answer most questions anyone would have about the whole thing. I've never actually attended one, but apparently this does happen all over the world with different artists in different cities, towns, countries and it's just sheer luck that I'll be free enough to paricipate. I'm hoping to have things happen at the Met and I'm just sharing as I figured someone might find this of interest. If ya can't make it, no big whoop, apparently you can just sketch whatever and still participate.

I'll be in secluded area away from people close to 72nd st on the Upper West Side. Should be there around Noon.

We switched it up to saturdays a while ago, but sketchgroup kinda died down for the summer. You want to come up on the 23rd and we'll do the sketch crawl? Or if the weather is nice that weekend, bring some paints with you and we'll go painting in the park. Maybe we can rope Greg and Irene to come by as well. It's been about a year since we did the massive Painting Party in the park. I can't think of a better way to commemorate it.

Indeed, it sounds like a plan Amish. I'll be giving the Met a ring tomorrow morning to see about making arrangements for the sketchcrawl group so that folks can bunch up easier on the 23rd, it'll probably happen sometime after 2pm. I'll include info on the painting party in the park(?) for the sketchcrawl folks who'd prefer to paint instead. As everyone's welcome to come, the more, the merrier.

I'll be at Haven, and I'll be at the society of illustrators tonight, and I will most likely be going to sketchcrawl if it's happening. Sometimes on days off I go on a bit of a sketchcrawl myself.
I'm a bit of a recluse, but I might want to join in on the sketchgroup.

( I copy/pasted this reply from the lounge, hoping to get more responses )
Hi all,
I decided to go to New York for an 'art trip' and travel back and forth Boston,
just for the Sargent paintings there
Now I was wondering if anyone could provide me (travelling alone) with a place to stay for a couple of nights.
New York seems quite expensive, accomodations wise..
I'm easy going, won't cause much of a hassle and can cook a hell of a spaghettisauce
I don't need a bed. The floor, bathtob, couch , whatever..is fine haha..
Also didn't book the exact flight dates but am thinking early to mid november.
( as long as I'm back before the 25th, the NY marathon pushes plain tickets
sky high then )
Eagerly awaiting your reply's.

do you have the dates set? I used to house CAers because i'm all trusting and all. I'd offer my couch, but November looks like a busy month for me. I'm never home anyways. And i may be going out of town around Thanksgiving time (nov 24th-28th)
you can try a Hostel. Emily G stayed at a hostel not too far from me on the Upper West Side. She did say it was kinda a rat-hole, but it was also $35 a night.
A friend of mine stayed at a Hostel around times square at $45 per night, and it didn't look too bad.

Probably should have posted about this earlier, but it slipped my mind. Too much caffeine not enough sleep. Dr. Sketchy's is this Saturday November the 4th from 3- 6 pm atThe Lucky Cat Lounge (http://www.theluckycat.com/). We've got Lady J returning dressed up as a mexican . Should be tons of fun. Also, The Dr. Sketchy's Rainy Day colouring book is now available for pre-order at the Dr. Sketchy's Website (http://www.drsketchy.com/book.php). It goes into detail about what Sketchy's is, and is a great guide on how to start your own sketch group full of burlesque dancers.

The sketchgroup has been dead for a while now. But we're planning a HUGE reunion/painting in the park party/picnic sometime in April/May.
but if you want something sooner, there's the NYC ComicCon this weekend, and FRIDAY FEB. 23rd HUGE Opening at the SoI. it's $30 to get in, which i know may be steep. But it's worth every penny if you're serious about illustration as a career. Networking GOLD.

As you all hopefully know, the met is opening its new sculpt section on april 20th. I was hoping we could organise something together, and kick off a summer of painting and drawing together ( as im only taking 1.5 creds, as opposed to 21 this last semester...) Maybe the weekend after or something? Im planning on doing a lot of plein air painting, and its always more fun in a group, with a few beers or whatever. I might even try and organise some sort of cityscape beer/barbeque/painting on my rooftop in LES. Ive got a nice view of Manhattan from here. Is there any interest for this?

I'm gonna be up there with a friend, but should be able to break away for at least a tiny bit for some drawing good-times. Timpaa, do you still have rooftop access (abcess)? that'd be damn sweet, if possible. central park, what-what? Will definitely be at the whitney to catch the psychedelic art show probably midday? plans a little foggy at this point, but it's coming together.
I'll subscribe to the NY thread until my trip's dates have come and gone.

Hi! I just moved to New York. As I am out of school, I wonder, how do I find community with other illustrators/art geeks here?

Hey everyone! This may not be the place to post this, and if not, then I apologize, but I'm considering moving to New York and leaving the Atlanta group. Hopefully I can meet some of yall in a few months! I was wondering if anyone could help me out with where I could find a place to live. I'm straight out of college and was thinking of getting a temp to help me out until I find a decent job for myself. Anyone know of a good place that I could check out. I don't mind living in a closet, I'm more concerned about safety. Anyone know of anything under $1000 in Manhattanish area? Anyways, sorry again if this isn't the place to post this. Thanks for any help.

Wow I can't believe I totally missed this Thread. LoL Thought I was the only one from New York. Here is my 2 cents. These group have outings/figure studies if you all want to join these groups; coordinate/plan something on this forum someday to sit & draw or paint if you guys/gals can manage to get to Manhattan. There's something going on like every other of week.

Okay... this is a longshot but here goes.
I want to go to New York for 3 months in the summer of 2011 (End of May till end of August) to take workshops at the Grand Central Academy of Art in Midtown Manhattan.
I was wondering if there's anybody who could help me find a place to stay. Even if just for a short bit. It's just way too expensive to book a hotel for 90 days. I could try to find something through craigslist but it would be a load of my mind if I had something to fall back on. I don't need much, just a place to sleep, hell I'd even sleep on the floor. I'll probably be out most of the time. I'd be so grateful to whoever would help me. I can pay you a bit if you want.. I want to make this trip so badly.

Woah, when did this thread get here? Are people still doing regular meetups? I was thinking of going to the Met to draw sculptures in January. Anyone want to join?
To reply to Nork- see if you can get housing at a dorm in or near the city. I know NYU and other schools rent out their dorms to students over the summer taking classes or doing internships. You might have to deal with no A/C though. I'll also ask my relatives who live in the city if they know of any good places.
