Which you peeps prefer between Pc s and Mac s when it comes to graphic design and animation. I have been a long time fan of PC s and I am quite expierienced with them, but lately with Apple's new G5 could the world Pc s be losing its hold over Mac?

lets not start this debate ... it gets old and stupid..... get what you need period ... if a pc does it get that if a mac does it get that

Um... I didn't read the post as the beginning of a debate.
I think Serani is trying to find out what platform "does it"
PC does it for me, but others prefer Macs. They can tell you why.
I like PC's first of all because I can afford them every few years.
Second of all because my experience with Mac's at our local junior college was every bit as frustrating (they crashed all the time) as any PC I've ever worked on.
Third, though this may not be true anymore, it used to be that there was a lot more software available for PC's.
Fourth, and these are not in order of importance, I work for myself teaching Painter classes online so there's no compatibility problem as there might be if I was still working and my employer used Mac's.
Fifth, I'm used to a PC and have used 'em since the DOS days. Can't think of a convincing reason to change.

yeah my point exactly ... i have always used macs ... i do freelance art .... on of my clients uses nothing but pc's and there is no compatibility probs..... i have a G4 1GHz 768 mb ram that i bought 4 800.00 so the price issue doesnt seem to be a problem either ...... i use macs cause i am used to them and already have software.... again the point being i feel u should use what you need and let that be the deciding factor

PC's and Mac's both have their advantages and disadvantages, but they both share one common ground, they both get what you need done, done.
PC's are great for the simple fact that when I want to upgrade, I don't have to try and wait for the planets to align to change a part (or in most mac's case, just buy a whole new system).
Mac's are great for their stability and the fact that almost no one can write a troublesome virus for them, and that the people that do are few and far between.
PC's can handle higher loads of visual data, but require more and more additional parts to do so; while Mac's are more adept at doing the same amount of work right out of the box as a souped up PC.
The best way to put this is how my teacher explained to us...
Mac's are like sports cars, you buy the newest fastest model so you can beat most of the cars off the block. While PC's are like those cars you buy so you can soup em up to your own liking.
It's a whole preference issue, not an issue of which is better, but more one of which are you comfortable with. So in answer to that question, I'm more comfortable with PC's because I can run 5 Operating Systems on just one machine, and have each of them doing their own duty to making my life easier.

the main factor in deciding which one you want, I think, is:
a) are you going to be playing games...
-yes? PC
-no? PC or Mac, moreso a Mac...
mac's have always been known for their graphic capabilities, since they have alot of lowlevel multimedia instructions designed specifically for this industry... much like the SGI workstations. Intel has been slowly trying to phase in the same sort of deal, starting with mmx, and now the p4 architecture... but they are still behind in terms of multimedia, so they try to kill it with faster clock speeds...
but you will not be able to play any games on your Mac...
edit: that was a slight oversight, I think you can get unreal 2004 for Mac... or they are working on it or something, they have a 64 bit linux version too :) so I think most developers will start supporting mac too...

If you want a toy you buy a pc
if you want a graphics machine you buy a mac
Macs operating systems let you run the programs faster and with less crashes ( if any)
If can have the same pc and mac and the mac will run faster becuase it has less to deal with in the background of the operating system
So if you want a tool buy a mac
but if you also want to play games don't bother cause blizzard is pretty much the only people who make mac games

i don't agree with finch for crashes, Pc users don't know "kernel panics" but you can't compare a pc and a mac they are not done for the same thing... Mac is more a professional tool.

I think itīs a taste matter. I work with both, and I hate macs, but both do the work they asked for....

i always run both alongside each other, my pc desktop and my mac laptop, its great, the best of both worlds, perfect symbiosis. Os x makes for really easy compatibility with windows, as far as networking goes. and if i wanna use some pc specific programs i can switch to that in less then a second :)
oh and yeah, i do all my painting and graphics on my mac, os X is unix based, which is absolutly notoriusly stable, i dont think my lap top crashed once, in the half a year i had it. I have had NO problems with it... where as my pc machine.. woah now that gave me alota problems, but i still love both of them.

I love my mac and wouldn't trade it for any pee cee. But, If you already know how to use a pee cee well, thats a big factor in what I would use. That and Half Life 2! LOL!

If you are new to computers in general though, Macs are far easier to learn to use. I am familiar with both, and its usually much easier to do anything on a machintosh then to do the same thing on a pee cee. But most of the Adobe programs and other illustration tools are the same on both platforms.
Macs = intuitive!
Pee Cees = frustrative!
(yes I know its pc and not pee cee)
