That first one is great! The lighting, composition and poses are dead(hehehe) on. So because you use photoreference did you or somebody you know have to take a dive to get what you needed?
When does this awesome book come out?!

Both are incredible - I love the motion on the first one, and the shiny leather pants are cool, too...

I'd almost like to see some muzzle flash coming out of that gun...

As usual Jon, great work. You never cease to amaze me. I look more and more forward to the release of your book!

By the way, thanks for all the encouragement on behalf of my brother, MindCandyMan. I support him all that I can, but it's really nice for him to get feedback from outside his "circle" and from a professional like you. His excitement grows each day and serves as inspiration for me as well!

Glad to see you're posting again, Jon.
Great stuff; I dig the anatomy and composition.
Looking forward to see those pieces when they're finished.

My only suggestion for the first piece: the head of the zombie-like creature looks a lil' bit odd to me, as if this this creature is wearing glasses.
Maybe you could get a meaner look by changing the creatures' nose into swamp-thing-like-nose? Or no nose at all - just the nasal bone. You could also move the head down a lil' bit.

Anyway, here's what I have in mind. Hope you don't mind me trying to add my two cents.

Best,
hatcha

I'm pretty sure that's not the nose at all, but the creature's ear you see in the first pic... It's not in profile; you see the back of it's head, he's looking more to the right.

At least that's what I think.

Other than that.....

-These kind of drawings in the "Work in progress & help" section?! :scared:

awesome work jon.
not sure if it was stated above(too lazy to read it all right now), but in the first picture the gun she is holding looks a bit like an arrowhead. I'm sure acouple of lines could help define it's shape more.... unless you were going for an arrowhead looking gun, which is fine by me aswell :P

NG,
errrrr, now that you mentioned it...
yeah, it could be the creature's ear. :D

Jon,
sorry. I guess it's a false alarm. :emb:

Well, I have been working on the others pieces for this assignment. Not much has happened with the two I have posted at this point.

Thank you for your critiques and comments! Greatly appreciated.

The gun, yea I have work on that allot. I will have a muzzle blast and a few holes punching through the zombie?s back. There is a truckload of refinement and detail that needs to be added as well.

The nose/ear! I went back and looked at it and you are right. It does look like a big red nose (I am guilty of making my noses too red) along with a small ear. But it was supposed to be all one big ear. Thanks and always feel free to do a re-paint.

Re-paints! I think they are wonderful and can help you snap out of a redundant loop. To all that have the energy and skin thick enough to be exposed either way, I highly recommend it.

On the drone wall painting. I will tighten up the edges and do allot of painting in the foreground. Needs lots of work.

An interesting note. The figures in the foreground were action figures that I posed on a table to get the perspective right and a sense of grouping. I love my action figures and I can write them off at tax time.

I am going to post the current painting on a thread named "blimp". It is much more in the beginning of its journey. My plan is to keep lots of saved versions and show it as a process piece. That is, if at the end it has any appeal to me.

thank you.

Wow really like your style. It's very pleasing to the eye to look at. I especially like the first one you posted. Great job on capturing the motion in the scene, and I love the texures and all the details you add in there.

Keep up the good work.

Tee hee, I actually got this book as soon as it came out. Dig your illustrations in it, Mr. Foster. I was especially surprised to see a particular piece that you posted as a sort of step by step/WIP here on the site at some point (the one where M. Decease is riding on the shoulders of her towering companion), which, btw, was a great inspiration for using yourself as a model when no other presents itself. ;)

Hope you work in Europe finishes smoothly. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff out and about. :D
