Painting - preparing the canvas

I have a problem with preparing the canvas - I don't quit remember how to do it properly and I think I did something wrong.... After making it tight (it was really tight) I painted it with glue mixed with water. When it dried it bacame very loose... help! Is there any way of making the canvas tighter again? And what did I do wrong anyway? Was it the material (cotton fabric) or too much glue or what? I remember my art teacher showing that you should do it that way, just can't remember how much glue to put in...

Typically the canvas should not get looser when a glue is applied to it. Maybe your mixture is off. I'd talk to the guys over at Studio Products (http://www.studioproducts.com). They tend to be quite knowledgable about technical things.
