Unoriginal, but a fun quickie.

Mean't to be some sort of ethereal manta creature.

Witness my very first CG picture, also an unoriginal manta. How do you get the fancy flames u guys have???

Gumdrop - cool, I especially like the look of the edge of the flames, where it goes to black. That's neat.
Pox - very cool. :)
Al Ian - funny, but I don't think you're allowed to use photographs in the DSG. You can paint from a reference image but you can't just cut and paste a photo into your DSG entry.
Jebus - that's pretty good for first CG. My first digipainting was awful. :)

Will have to see if I can find time later for this one, myself!

@artistanbul - Wow, when I scrolled down I was really surprised by yours. Their strength is in simplicity, I think. The highlights on the eye tie the whole image together in the second one...
@Defunct - Is that an Andromeda Strain asteroid? (I'm guessing no)

edit: whoops now I see that one of the layers of the flamemantha is missing. Guess I forgot to flatten the layers when I copied it to the background hehe

Hey Cold,

You can think of the sun's corona as its atmosphere. It's what you see when there's a disk put over the sun in photos and you can see the light and solar flares.

Hope that non-technical explanation helps.

Cheers,

~Oreg.

aristanbul : very cool pics too but not that 'coronish' :D

thanks for appreciated kind words people. I didn't know corona was that. here is a speedy one then.

http://img38.photobucket.com/albums/v116/artistanbul/sunheads.jpg

this is an interesting creature. upper half of the "head" is the male. it thinks and can see around. The lower part is female. It is surrounded by solar cells with which it gains energy to move doesnt need to see or to think. When breeding they are like a talking head, which in fact tells the meaning of life and everything, but sadly there is no human around to hear it.. or maybe not. :P

after a long hiatus, back to the D S G
some quick opencanvasing of a sun-crustacean. i wanted to depart a little bit from the manta/serpent idea, plus this has been stuck in my head since i saw it ARACHNAPHOBES BEWARE!! (http://itcantendlikethis.com/images/SPIDERS.jpg)

BTW I'm especially fond of Railboy and Jebus'sssesl

Well I tried, unfortunatly one benefit of sketching in a notepad vs sketching on a computer is that notepads don't crash. As you can guess my sketch was on a computer and Painter crashed. Oh well.

Railboy: I really like the composition of your piece. My eye moves from the bottom to the top of the piece with no problem. The subtle definition of shape is really cool.

Dagreengo: I like the heavy brushstroke. And the contrast of the blue on the orange.

Here's a quicky... I still got one in though. I thik it looks like a sea bass with a long tail, but that is me.

About 45 minutes in Painter.

Gumdrop - Very nice angle, textures, and colors. Keep at it.
Railboy - Oh man I so wanted to copy this one, but I didn't... very good. Reminds me of the creatures from Final Fantasty: The Spirits Within.
dagreengo - Very nice perspective and I loved the colors.

used water colour to do this picture with painter in about 1 hour :D
Its meant to be some wierd thing that survives on the sun's heat and keeps moving with its "engine" to keep its temperature lower so that it can survive - so it does not need food, something that feeds on the heat of the sun.

this wouldn't have taken more than 15 mins if i hadn't had so much trouble coming up with a creature. Eventually one creature turned out to be this :o I might touch this up a little later.
