Just thought id throw this out there ! ONe of the greatest things about doing cg for a living in my opinion is geting to advance your artistic skill throught a lifetime and i guess the pay aint bad either but what id like to know is who youd like to aprentice if you could

I find that this changes for me quite often i see new artist like sparth and capt flush garden and think damn id take out these guys trash to work with them for a week LOL , Then there are others i see make huge advances in there artwork like Koryh and hawkprey , not that either of these two are bad its just ive seen them grow alot in the past 6 months form the last works they showed me ! eye woo always amazes me and, my friend daryl mandrake keeps me motivated reminded me that paintng and 2d are as imprtant as modeling

for me at the moment id have to say my number one choice would have to be mullins yeah it sounds typical but i really like how much atention pays to things like light and values and becuase he actauly doesnt mind explaining them to an idiot like me and that says alot !

Well im interested in seeing who you all are intersted in so fire away .

on a side note this isnt meant to be a ass kissing thread i dont see anything wrong with aknowledging hard work and skill when i see it and the people i mentioned are only a handful i admire and respect for the dedication it takes to get to where they are

If I were to choose based on the style inspiration I recieve, I'd say Ashley Wood and Vebjorn Strommen.

I really dig that dark, geace-stained look and could definitely use a few pointers in addapting it to my own rougher, dirty style that I've been working with.

Oh yeah, and definitely that guy who did the art for the 'From hell' graphic novel. I can't for the life of me think of his name right now, but his work is bad ass.

Not easy ...

Rembrandt,
Goya,
Picasso,
Moebius,
Frazetta ...

I would like to spend some time with van Gogh but I would hate cutting my ear off ;)

All in all I would like to learn some techniques but mainly I would like to learn to see ... I think it´s better developing my own style...

Moebius
Berni Wrightson
Otto Dix
Heinrich Kley
Ruebens
N.C. Wyeth
BWS
Turner
R. Crumb
Shel Silverstien
Dave McKean
Barron Storey (have him for illustration next semester!)

But most of all, I would just like to be able to make my drawings and paintings come out how I visualize them. No matter how much I work at it, my work never seems to live up to my initial vision. I have to tell myself to learn to be patient...

cool thread... no specific order here.

old masters: Bouguereau, Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Sargent, Valesquez

living artists: Mullins, Doug Chiang, Frazetta, Andrew Jones, John Howe, Alan Lee... there's a lot more, but i can't think of them.

I don't really know any living fine artists other than Kinkade. I hear a lot of people think he's a joke or don't like him, but why? I dunno... but one thing I don't like about him is that ALL he does is landscapes. You gotta have some variety, ya know?
