This is a design I've done for a band's cd cover. The cd is called The Hippy Rooster, and I thought this guy looked the part for some reason. Anyone agree?
I used flash for the outline and photoshop to fill it in.

No one agrees then? What should a Hippy Rooster look like? I'm flumuxed.

I like it!

Is he giving me the Finger!!

I like the non-literal translation.

My only problem is that it is too soft in places where I think harder shadows and shades could have made it pop a bit more and really pushed the 3d aspect.

Have you tried working with paths in Photoshop as opposed to Flash or Illustrator?

Hi Hei Gwei, thanks for the feedback!
Just taking a look at paths now, but don't see how that could be of use to me (havn't even used them before and I've been using photoshop for about 4 years - talk about stuck in my ways!)

I just use Flash for the outline 'cause I can draw vitually freehand for the curves, giving a more handrawn feel (apart from the straight lines). I then export this as an eps and gives me a clean edge for filling in with Photoshop. I sort of agree about the shadows, the bright light should give sharper shadows. I'll have a pop at making it pop more.

Is he giving me the Finger!!

Only if you didn't like it :D

I like the shapes, could be nice.

I have a personal vendetta against the use of layer effects (bevel in particular) unless used very subtly. I would probably like this more if you'd simply done black lines around the edges in varying widths (to add depth) or done a simple pixel border rather than bevelled.. for something which overall is so flat in colours, adding bevel I think takes away what would otherwise be a strong illustration.

I might do an overpaint tomorrow :)

edit: dont like that dot in the middle :P

oh yah and get adobe illustrator for doing paths etc.. its soooo much easier to use, and far better than flash at it :) (I use both in my multimedia course, flash and freehand both suck at paths comparatively)

Thanks peeps for the comments.

sixBlade, the bevel effect was only used on the spiral background, but I agree in that using it I took away the control over the image. Look forward to an overlay if you have time. I have the ideas, but not the time to spend on finishing them the way I would like. I need to take a year out me thinks!

This one could interest the more freaky people out there.
