Salute to all of you,
I don't even know where to start this post. I really love drawing and 3d art. I want to become really good at it(Creatures and characters are my main interest). I realized just now that my skills are very low. I know a lot of software and a lot of facts from the fields i am interested of, but i lack the foundation every good artist should have. I am trapped inside my own little drawing reflexes, I end up drawing the same boring images all the time(allot of defects with anatomy perspective lighting are really poor). I now know that i have to leave 3d art...and other complex things, to go back and take a deep look at the basics of drawing, so i can understand images in general and then reproduce or create good art. But i became so depressed and scared of what i realized that I don't really know how to approach my home reeducation(don't have the money to go to art-school). So, I would really be in debt to you marvelous guys, for some clear advices on how to structure some Home-learning. Any advice is welcome. Please HELP ME OUT.... I WILL STAY thankful FOREVER (I will share anything interesting and of worth is stumble upon).

Hey Gatekey, glad to hear that you want to get into the art game full time. I was in your same spot about 2 years ago once I graduated my first art school. I thought I had a good grasp on my foundations but once I started to research I quickly found out I had so much more to learn, so I started taking the streaming classes and eventually joined TAD as a full time student. Here is the low down.

Art school is the best choice for most to learn and solidify your foundations. TAD is one of the best and affordable schools out there. Everyone has their story of working two jobs and busting their butt in school to pay for tuition and complete the homework so that can't be an issue for you if you have access to a job, you can save up and work hard if you are dedicated. There are scholarships as well. Research ways to pay for school.

If money is really and issue or you just don't want to work to the bone for a year to save up then I suggest starting with the CA streaming classes or DL's. They all run around $20 each and you can learn tons for a small price.

Now for the areas that TAD considers foundations.

Light and Form
Composition
Color Theory
Anatomy
Ideation
Perspective
Traditional and Digital media

If you want to home school yourself then really all you have to start doing is research. Just take your time and search through all the threads on CA on the topics. Look on youtube for tutorials, workshops, demos, ect... In this day and age its super easy to educate yourself through the internet, it's just up to you how far you want to dig. Loomis or Bridgeman have always been go to guys for anatomy and perspective study.

Once you start to find the info you are looking for create a daily schedule or routine to practice. You could even make your own moc class schedule. Look at the sketchbook threads to see how others are practicing and what they learn from their studies. Its all about diligence. And lastly start a sketchbook thread yourself and post your progress regularly. The community here on CA is going are going to be your biggest teachers. Everyone here who works hard improves so quickly its hard to believe sometimes.

I hope this helps you to get started on the right foot. If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a message. I look forward to seeing you on the threads.
