Here is something i just did, it is supposed to be a leg, with it's muscles showing. I am going to draw the real leg next.

Hi, I'll try to give you some advice if I can. While learning anatomy I'd suggest focusing on slender figures, get things more elongated and try doing a lot of studies of other drawings (using photo refs can be more daunting when trying to get the hang of it). Try to get some more delicate shape with ankles, wrists, and other joints, they need to read well.

try making longer lines without overlapping and doubling back over them as much. this may help you get the figure to look more delicate.

Okay thanks, I always use short brushy strokes with my pencil, thats probably bad. I'm going to try to do some feet tonight, thanks for the help.

its not bad to do one technique, but its even better to try many other techniques that you may enjoy. your short pencil strokes might be good for drawing a stout, muscular, or beefy guy, or good for getting even cross hatching. longer curved marks may be better for a feminine form.

Here is an update although you probably won't like it (I don't). I tried drawing my own feet, but it didnt turn out so well.

Hey Hydra, have you learned proportions yet? thats the basic of what to learn first. here http://www.fineart.sk/ check out loomis' book, a lot of good stuff. hmm i suggest try to do as much life drawing as possible as well as study the human anatomy. for example study the skull then move to the muscles of the head then to parts on the face etc. Which at the same time your doing self portraits, portraits of others, reference drawings of peoples heads etc. But dont limit yourself to only that when studying a certain part, go ahead and draw your feet, trees, so on. you will notice that you pay attention more to how everything relates. goodluck and oh ya btw check out mindcandymans thread, from the first page to the last, hes quite inspirationa!

Sorry for the long wait, didn't have time to draw too much. I tried a self portrait but I need some help. I don't know how to do the hair, and the ears are tricky. I also look like a girl in this picture :-(

I drew my hand, some of the proportions are off, some fingers are crooked and nails are too etc. I am still happy I got something like this off, since I am new. Hope you like it, I will probably do another soon...
