I finally got around to scanning some pages from the book of sketches.
Most of this stuff is out of my head but i must warn you there is a heavy Ghost in the shell influence going on so don't hurt yourself. I can't stop watching that movie and reading the manga. Its been all these years and I still love it. I must have watched the new trailer for Innocence at least 100 times. That movie is going to be unbelievable.

Really killer work here man! I had done a Batman/Katana pic a long time back... it's such a damn cool duo, so I'm stoked to see you doing it too. Those hand studies waaaaay up there are great!
There are some anatomical issues, mainly in the faces when you start getting into different angles... just keep working on those, as I'm sure you already will, and maybe do some more hands, but sheeeeeit. It's all working out well for you! Peace

I really like the design of the knights. the ONLY thing I'd say about that is the horse on the right in the, the second one back, his leg looks a little awkward. sweet stuff reau
u have a good sense of light
i remember noticing that before in some color figuers uve done a while back
i also like ur females, nice figuers, small sexy beasts ;)
i do feel that many of your character look kind of anime-ish or comic-ish, and so they lack some personality. many are quite "subtle", if you see my point. sometimes that comic style gets into your anatomy, and i think your skechbook stuff could look much better if it didnt, though that may just be a matter of personal taste..
i usually check up on your stuff
keep it going

Great - as always, the chick is damn hot! and Wolverine has already become one of your specials. The tentacle-armed guy is a very cool idea but the anatomy looks a bit off (on the bottom one)- his left hand looks weird and it's fingers are too short and I also think that there should be something more happening in the area of the right arm where the bicep turns into the tentacles.
Your thread is one of my favourites - i'm looking forward to every update and you are finally handing them on to us more often. Keep it up.
Take care,

Look, I'm not near your talent, so you can overlook this small crit if you like. All I can see that needs slight work is this: on some of your images, the clothes appear "flat" on the character. No biggie, because your imagery and action is simply astounding! You capture the moment too well!

February 19th, 2005, 05:13 PM
Hell yea man! ha ha, I love that fuckin batman, Superman looks sweet too, the only thing I'd say about that is his face and his and his abs seem a little misplaced. What I mean is his abs are a facing a different direction than the angle of the contour if that makes any sense at all, same thing with the face... his features don't seem to be in the right place. I think what it is, is he's supposed to be looking up a little but his nose and mouth are facing us. Wow! I'm a huge asshole, cuz I really like the drawing by I think if you fixed those couple things (if you see them) it would be really solid. And shit take it a step further and paint it! Throw in a nice background like metropolis or gotham. Good porfolio piece. Sorry for the crit man, but this is a hot peice and I think you could make it a little hotter.

hey reau, i really like the girls you draw, their proportions are all very believable and you tend to use good light sources on them. on these most recent posts, i really enjoyed your take on batman, the slimmer body-type is an interesting take. however, your superman is remaining super flat right now, ESP. in the cape, but i think most of the problem is just in the fact that its a very rigid pose, he's motionlessly crucified there...haha...gotta let him fly free..wow, alright, sorry for that haha, but yea, i like your work and i think you should keep it up.

Hello, REAU! You are awesome. I unfortunately have no idea about manga style you love so much and even apparently use for inspiration or something, but I'm smitten what and how you express yourself. Very, very great art. I don't think you can stay indifferent observing this. I know I can't. I smiled a lot in your book too. Your drawings with quotes, :). very funny, brain blowing mix of anti-propaganda hooliganism and sweet humour. I like it. Hope you didn't get any trouble because of them. Because it's very bold :).
You have so many dynamic poses on those pages, I'm deeply impressed, that's again tells a lot about you not thinking twice, but trying new things. Anatomy is great, faces are very interesting, a lot of ideas. And I like your coloring a lot, this dwarf, man sitting in snow, girl in red, awesome stuff. You already have wonderful images for Character of this week, a Battle angel. I would love to see your entry there. So great art, Thank you very much. Every page is beautiful, even when you laughing at very serious for some people things.

I completely echo what hurricane just said. I can't believe I haven't come across your sketchbook before. You have a minimalism of line that just makes all of your images pop. The lines are so clean, and the forms are so sharp. Makes me jealous, inspired and hopeful all at the same time.
Just out of curiosity, how old are you, and do you go to school still? If so, where?
Anyway, just so this isn't a complete asspat, and seeing as how this is CA, and critiques are how we movie forward, I did notice that some of your figures could have a little more dynamism to them. I think you have a little bit of a flatness issue that I also deal with, where your figures are either straight profiles, or facing directly forward. Either way, they still look better than mine.
I'm seriously going to keep an eye on this one. I look forward to seeing more. Seriously - keep it coming.

Hey, REAU :). It was awhile since you last update :). Oh, actually about 10 hours. Hehehe, no seriously, you don't update often enough. I enjoy your book.
Looked and read again your thinking loud :). Smiled a lot.
I find it hilarious when you write some very smooth spiritual slogan and draw some crazy nymphomaniac near it. Boy, you are sure good in making waves on a calm water.
And those stars on on every clean spot you can find. I don't know about you, but for me the star is overexploited symbol, so, I think, that's funny.
I like this page from Mike's sketchbook very much, it doesn't look subconshious though, on opposite, looks like you were folowing some ideas. But I like this shading, figure and the stream of eyes. I saw them like a peacock's tail at first. And only later noticed that what happened with your study of an eye or something. :). Nice concept, in my opinion.
And I like your new colored piece a lot, it's very emotional and powerful.
Thank you

I'm not smiling anymore, I'm giddy :). My, oh my, I didn't know I had it in me before your thread, apparently I lost all respect, have no solid ground to stand, everything in life can be laughed out. The same goes to you, dear Reau, you have too healthy portion of cynicism in you.
First page, new perversion, I didn't know that it is a thing like this, Well, live and learn, and enjoy :). Girl's face is awesome, don't let it to be just one sketch, do more with it, she is such a joy, do painting with her. Oh, sorry, got carried away a bit, I wanted to say, please consider to use this face in some work of yours, it's full of potentials. The rest of the body is strangely small for the head, unusual thing for you.
Second page, the composition is very beautiful, still looks planned, not subconscious, but sense of beauty is lovely. "Killers are born, not made". Very good slogan, could be used by death penalty opponents. And it's not totally proved, but I think it will be discovered with time given That something wrong physically. Like these male faces a lot.
Third page, :). Oh boy. Yeah, that's very naughty. Cloudy poetry and bold naked female bottoms. Thank you, I feel so earthy. :).
The Fourth one, pushed me down a bit more. And I learnt new percussion, new word and that it is possible to want to do it with Mona Lisa eye. Respect, man :D. I believe you :).
Girls in moleskin project are beautiful.
"I only go out to build my appetite for being alone." I hear you, soul brother, lovely put too.
Two more perversions, I will never be the same again. Thank you, I guess. :)
