Hey all. Been busy working for the man, so I haven't had much to show for awhile.

I got Painter 7 recently and this piece is the first thing I've done with it of any merit. This was done more to play with Painter than to worry about the design, so all the design elements are afterthought.

I just want to add that I've been using Photoshop 7 for awhile, and I've played around with the new brush engine extensively. But after using Painter, I now think if you want to make your digital art look like traditional media, Painter is the way to go.

c&c welcome.

Cheers!

Dave

Extremely cool. A bit dark but still cool. Kind of reminds me of Simon Bisley's work, however, even though I like his work I feel that a lot of it is too dark, that is he doesn't take the time to work on defining all the shapes of his pictures and just fills it in with black. I feel thats cheating in a way but I guess it has made him an effective artist.
Anywayz, good job.

wow, awesome stuff. Love the boldness of the colours and especially the texture of the red in th BG. Gives it a very savage, nasty feel.

stephen, BASTION, MindCandyMan, talos72, davi- thanks again for the positive comments.

Batteram- thanks, and yeah it's a bit dark--a knee-jerk reaction to most of the professional work I do where I have to illustrate every detail or have to make everything bright and cheerful, so it's nice to do something that's just plain dark and leave out as much as I can get away with!

Lono- thanks! I'm having trouble with the right arm too, but like I said to Batteram, it's nice to be able to just leave stuff out and not worry about it as a change of pace. I just made sure that the silhoutte of the figure looked cool and just squeezed in the anatomy to fit it.

thanks everybody!

Fantastic painting Hudnut! I need to get painter!

The helmet is a little confusing. I can't tell if the horn on our right is coming out of the front or the side or sticking straight up or what. But if you're a rampaging warrior I guess you don't care which way your horn points.

Wait, there was something wrong about that sentence...

I'm not really into the blue skin thing...anyways the colors look american flaggy..red white and blue ...and black.....i dont think the red and blue go well together anyways....but I like how you show the brush strokes in the background..it looks very nice and bold...pretty neat. Maybe make the blue skin closer to red on the color scale..exmp: orange..purple.....so that it fits in better with the red.........good job doody!.........STARK:chug:

Teknoholic- thanks, yeah Painter 7 kicks butt for the natural media look--I can't say enough about it. As for the horn, I think it's sticking out in 3 directions at once.

keyth- mentioning me in the same sentence as Phil Hale is quite an honor, as I'm a big fan of his work. I can't remember if any Phil Hale images were floating through my mind when I did this, but images of Simon Bisley's stuff were definitely popping into mind as I painted. Thanks for the positive comments.

Stark- thanks for the feedback and positive comments and welcome to the board!

Thanks everybody for checking out my thread, it's much appreciated.

Cheers!
