Hi all,
I've been playing around with some analysis on paintings and thought you might find these interesting. The one I just finished is a write-up of a painting by Dali. He sets up the composition so that it shows a woman looking out of a window when you're close to it and a a portrait of Abraham Lincoln when you're farther away. The Frank Frazetta picture has a pretty simple composition, but it's interesting to see where he puts the high contrast edges (light to dark), where he's got the light to light transitions and where he's got the dark to dark ones. The edges in the painting also form loops and paths that keep the viewer's eye moving around the painting. That one is here: http://www.scottmcd.net/artanalysis/?p=1094
Finally, Donato Giancola is an active artist who does fantasy and sci-fi work in a style that recalls Velazquez or Caravaggio.
