Ya definatly way too much detail in the face. The only way to fix it probably is to color it on the computer then maybe it will turn out okay. Insane detail job though

Hey, I'm pretty ignorant... probably... but isn't gauche a lot like water color? I say that if you put the same amount of detail in the torso then it will look better, again, after you paint it.
That is, if gauche is similar to water color.
I think you should also scan in your pic and try working with painting it digitally before you paint it... analogly?
I'm sorry. I'm trying to give a serious suggestion but I feel my inexperience as an artist is probably tainting my suggestion.
Good luck.

hi, thanks for the reply.
gouache is actually a chalk based paint. its strong and quite thick, unlike water colour, which is water based and can be weak and is thin.
once i colour it, it should look better and clearer.
thanks :)

theres no point making another thread, so i guess i'll post more stuff in here.
i actually did this on the last day of the workshop, while waiting to find time to show my portfolio (i didnt get a chance in the end) and then i slapped a load of black ink on it while on the plane coming home, but it took 3 days to dry :/ :D

ALFIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ehehehe(persona l joke)
I like it, but i think there´s to much detail in the head, and lesser in the body, you should balance it more. :D
lets go to the irish pub and draw!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a quick one, i dont really like it. but i might be able to save it once i colour it.
...btw, if anyone's wondering why all thease are in the wip section, its because i'm waiting to get my inks and gouache, and then i'm gonna colour them all. i just need to get the money :D so thats why they're in this section and not the sketch one or somthing.
any help or advice for any of these most appreciated. :)

see the difference?... u gotta think in shapes more then lines when u color... the way u colored it made it flat.. look especially on his right arm.. u shaded the msucles as if the were flat shapes with dark/light edges..
sorry for the fast overpaint, but i just wanted to make something fast
keep em coming ! great work so far !

man, how many pages on your sketch book get inked through because of the amount you use!? my goodness fox, thats insane. How long have you been drawing for btw?
cartoonfox
April 10th, 2004, 05:11 PM
actually, not one of my pages has leaked ink, the paper isnt very thick, maybey 100/120 g/m2 but the inked must be thin or something, i dont know, lol :D i guess i'm lucky. sometimes when i colour big parts black, a bit leakes through to the other side, but never onto the next page.
i allways ink my sketches. sometimes i go straight in with the ink, or sometimes i pencil it first if i'm unsure of what i'm doing. but i allways have to ink, its just a preference of mine. :D
i've been drawing for about 6 months. i started in september, but i took a month out in feburary when i got lazy and played on my gamecube all day :D
