I haven't oil painted in a long time so I decided to reference a photograph to get back into the swing of things. This painting took be about 6 hours to complete. I started out with a grey background, through down a simple line drawing. Then I painted it black and white. finally, I colored it. I photographed the steps I took and posted them as well. I will start up an illustration shortly after I get some feedback. Please let me know what you think. Critique it PLEASE!!!

Thanks a lot,
Greg Smith

I like the drawing itself, and maybe it's just the way the photo was taken, or the size, but it looks way too dark. I'm wanting to get a sunset feel based on the colors and contrast on the figure, but the whole thing just seems way too dark for it. Maybe it's brighter in person? It might also be the sky...she seems lit by a very warm light but the sky just isn't having any of it.

Maybe you could post a couple of larger detail shots?

The photograph did come out a bit dark. Im still having trouble shooting my work. But I did get some advice and I need to pick up a special bulb and mess around with it some more. Thanks for your feedback.
