Topic = The Symplegades
suggested by Misplacedhippos

This should be done in any time/setting period except Ancient Greece. You don't have to use actual rocks, but something that represents them. Same with the ship/dove. But you should represent all those elements. Think of the elements of this concept: the rocks, a dove, and the Argonaut's ship as symbolic items. If you choose, you can create your own reinterpretation of 'The Symplegades' but this week's contest is also subject to your own creative version.

From Wikipedia:
"The Symplegades, or Clashing Rocks, also known as the Cyanean Rocks, were, according to Greek mythology, a pair of rocks at the Bosphorus that clashed together randomly. They were defeated by Jason and the Argonauts, who would have been lost and killed by the rocks except for Phineas' advice. Jason let a dove fly between the rocks; it lost only its tail feathers. The Argonauts rowed mightily to get through and lost only part of the stern ornament. After that, the Symplegades stopped moving permanently."

Deadline: March 10

Please vote for your personal favourite artwork from this round. Remember that your vote should reflect an equal weight of aesthetic impact, adherance to the brief, and idea development. Help strengthen the activity by leaving criticism for the artist you vote for, and for any other artworks you can manage! It's appreciated as some artists may want to polish their entries and use them for their own portfolios or for other personal or professional uses.

For excellent display of artistry and original interpretation of the brief - while still remaining firmly within it, my vote has gone to Kingkostas

more crit to follow.

As a general comment - absolutely stunning round, some absolute corkers. My only niggle is I don't get how many of these would be mobile enough to move/change position. The difficulty in this task, was finding a design that satisfied the legend that these could close in on or crush you.
Thanks everyone however, inspiring round.

oops !

Reading the comment, I just discovered that it was possible to vote for several people.

So excuse me :

Bnoch - As I told You, your image is splendid, but since I gave You my vote for the Orrery chamber, I decided to vote for someone else on that round

pokepetter - I really like your creation, but the only reason why I didn't vote for You was that it was a little bit classical (rocks, water, boat). On the other side, I like the foggy atmosphere You brought to that classical composition

And honestly, if I didn't give You my vote, it's also because I had to give it to kingkostas. As a huge fan of whales, I think the concept was just the best one, and he managed to give life to the painting in a beautiful way.
So, congratulation kingkostas.

Congratulation to everyone else too, because I think that round was really a great one, with a lot of creativity and diversity.
