I was thinking about going. But if a bunch of you CA goons are going I'm staying the hell away!!

....

Just kidding :D I'd probably go just to meet some of y'all, even though I haven't really talked to any of the CA'ers from around here. I have the registration form at my house. But I probably won't sign up til I move at the end of this month.

I will most likely be attending this year. I missed last year because of work, but this time I have July and August off.

I usually stay at the Wyndham.

Gah. I better get on this soon. I need to register and get my reservations in......

Btw, Any of you guys hitting E3 this year?
I met Sean last year which was cool.

I was there last year and it was a ton of fun. I am going to try and come out this year too. It would be cool if all the conceptart.org people had some kind of identifying symbol on their tag or a wrist band or something so we could pick eachother out. I guess you could also just write your conceptart.org name on your tag under your real one (or instead of).

I'll be there. Suggest you all stop by the Watts Atelier booth and say hi to fredflickstone. He and Jeff do life drawing demos every year in the conference rooms. They usually have 2 sessions per day, and last year they did a traditional/digital painting demo as well. Check the programming schedules once they are published.

Here is a blotto to think about.

Jeff and I are teaching at least 4-6 workshops. As a group, you should all go to them. As a group, we will all meet at our schools booth after the second and third night of the con, and as a group, we can either go to our school and have an art pow wow, or go to a restaurant and have a Concept Art Powwow...lessons included free from me if you want any instruction while we all meet.

I hope my wife doesnt kill me for this...heh

fukifino
April 28th, 2004, 04:22 AM
You have to sign up if you're going to volunteer. Otherwise you can buy a day pass at the door, I believe. But it's more expensive that way and you'll probably have to stand in a long line. At least, that's been my experience with other conventions.

standing in a HUGE LINE is common place at the con. i have friends in artists alley so i usually get my passes from them. i highly recomend volunteering if you dont have the $$$ to blow. its easy and mostly get stuck talking to artists (well doing their dirty work by running for water and such)

all off the Watts Atelier demos will be in the program guide. just look for jeff's name.

still i think an identifying symbol or something would be cool, so as we are all oogling the artwork we might look over and see a fellow CA member.

Also, Tolkemia-Neo, you couldn't have picked an odder thread to post your intro in. You should have gone to the root of The Lounge (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2), and just post a thread, as the sub heading indicates: "Post introductions, Talk with friends, ask general queries, anything goes!"

m2m- not sure when ron will see the thread but traditionally they do drawing from life demos with a real model, talking about the different aspects and approaches to solving the picture. knowing ron he will bring everything to the table. last year he did a digital paint while jeff watts did a traditional oil, both were bad ass. there are usually 4-6 demos durring the con.

this year he is wanting to gear it more torwards comics as well as traditional. It will definately be time well spent

I am going to the San Diego Comic Con this year.

I acually saw that demo last year and was in awe how awesome the pirate came out in how short of a time. I learned a ton from that. Just, seeing things done. I haven't experienced that before since the only art class I took before was a printing class (long story =B).

I was just beginning the artsy last year and it was amazing seeing the contrast between traditional and a digital medium. That demo is one the things that helped spark my interest in painting to take the leap to go from a Theater major to a Painting major, seeminly at random to the unobserving eye. ;) Kudos to you guys. Awesome job on the demo. =D Thanks for having it. I'll definately go to them again this year. Thanks.

It would rock meeting other artist types. *hops* I don't have any plans for the Con other then knowing I am going, so whatever you guys decide upon is cool.

Groover McNab

AmishCommy
July 16th, 2004, 03:49 AM
Is WAtts Gonna be there? Will he be reping himself or the school? I say we make the Watts booth our table of operaations. Some one start a sign up sheet and we'll come up with a time on Saturday that doesnt conflict with anyone's plans (too much). we can finalize the time on friday and post it at the booth. (if Watts don't mind that is)

hows that sound?

fukifino
July 16th, 2004, 10:36 AM

Sweet. Well I just looked on the comic con website. Watts is gonna be in booth 1632, between the heavy metal and top cow booths it looks like. See if you can find it in this map, damn this thing is huge.

tinyhands
July 16th, 2004, 03:28 PM
Since it seems like alot of people our gonna be making their way to the Watts booth, just so you guys know, the booth is really really small. Its only gonna be like two tables. Plus you might not see Jeff at the booth most of the time cause of workshops and stuff. Theres only gonna be a few instructors there so its pretty low key. And knowing from the past, unless people are there to ask questions about the school and stuff, I wouldn't count on making the booth a "hang-out" spot. Its really congested through the Heavy Metal booth and the Watts booth. The booth is so small that having 6 people in it is almost too many. Heh. Just letting you guys know.

Damn you Tinyhands with your "Logic"

how about this: Personaly I feel like i need work on my Composition so i'm gonna try my best to make it to the friday workshop. If Jeff and Ron don't mind I thought we may be able to use their booth as a way of getting some centralized information about meeting places. the reason why i thought about the wastts booth is that i just found out about the school and i want to spend some time picking Jeff's and Ron's brains.

Also any of the portfolio review lines would be a good place to meet up as well.

I'm planning to spend a ton of time in the Artists alley and if things go like they did last year, George Pratt and Durwin Talon should be in the same area. (last year they grouped all the painters together so JonFoster was right accross from Jon Van Fleet and Durwin and George) I think i'll put CA on my badge and hope someone notices.

AmishCommy

we should all get together friday night and saturday night after the convention and meet for drinks somewhere in the Gaslamp....

i definitely would like to just hang out and sit and chill with you guys and just talk and make new friends....

there's tons of bars and places to hang out Downtown....

-Raśl

p.s. we should all decide on a subtle way to identify each other (like putting a red sticker on our badges or something)

I spoke with Ron Lemen/fredflickstone this afternoon and he said for anyone who is interested to stop by the Watts Atelier booth at 630pm on Saturday night. He and Jeff Watts will be doing demonstrations Friday/Sat/Sun and everyone is welcome to attend the demos as well.

After the Saturday demo, we can meet at the booth and then decide to grab dinner and/or go sketch etc.

Don't know if anyone knows about Scott Robertson and Neville Page being at the con. Discounts on Gnomon titles and demos. Sounds cool.

Hi Everyone,

Neville and I will be heading to the San Diego Comic-Con July 22nd through the 25th, and hanging out in the Design Studio Press booth number, 1701.

Please come by and check out our books and DVDs. We will be selling all 34 Analog DVDs titles at a show special price and our books, Concept Design, Monstruo (The Art of Carlos Huante), Quantum Dreams (The Art of Stephan Martiniere), AVP (Alien vs. Predator making of book) and How to Draw Cars the Hot Wheels Way. The last three are new and will be introduced first at Comic-Con. Our authors will be doing signings throughout the show and the instructors on the DVDs will be doing rendering demos during the show as well. Watch this spot for the exact days and times of specific rendering demos. Thanks again for your support, hope to see you in San Diego!

Awesome, i'm planning on getting some of those books and dvds. Also, I took Ron Lemens storyboard class a while back and loved it, that guy can draw and is my hero.

This might be a bit redundant now, thanks to Rogfa, but here is a bit more info.

Hey all,

I've just recovered enough now from the Austin heat to head down to the Comic Con in San Diego this week. You are all welcome to come by our Design Studio Press booth, #1701 and check out the new books we have arriving. We will have Alien vs. Predator, Quantum Dreams (The Art of Stephan Martiniere), How to Draw Cars the Hot Wheels Way, Monstruo and Concept Design on display and for sale. In addition we will have all 34 Analog DVD titles for sale at the academic price of $49.- ea. Carlos Huante will be around doing signings and demos on Thursday and Friday. Neville Page will be doing demos on Friday. I will put a few things down throughout the show and we should have Feng Zhu, Ryan Church, and James Clyne around on Saturday. We have a great big LCD attached to my laptop so watching along should be fun. When your feet get tired come on by and take load off! See you around the show.

Later,

Well I'll be at the Con tommorrow to pick up my sketchbook from Lesean Thomas. Other than that I've also altered my badge which reads 'FIG' so say hello if you see my ugly mug. I may stop by Jeff Watts booth again. See you all there...........maybe. I'll also be picking up Carlos Huantes book, I saw it but decided to get it tommorrow. The Aliens vs Predator book was rumored to be flying off the shelf.

Phil, seems like we share b'day.

I wish I could goto SD and all that. There's no interesting conventions here, not that I've heard of anyways. Maybe I could get my ass over to Berlin though.

OMG...Brom WAS there??? I saw him mentioned in the program but couldn't find him listed anywhere!! OMG SUK!!! :( :( :(

I never ran into CA people randomly (except for Brad, who's a nasty lurker ;) ). Did have a great time talking with chukw, tegehel and Imphead at their booths though. All three were super cool, especially tegehel. You rule man. Was gonna say hi to Bomba but he was busy talkin' to someone else.

Gah, I kinda forgot that people were getting together after tonight. :/ I was so freakin' hungry though by 5:00, and I had acquired a Bradstreet print and a print from Cyril that I didn't want to get damaged that I just decided to bail. Ahh well. It was my first time, but I'm definately going to make it a regular thing. Con rulez. :D

Phil - Oh maaan! I was actually wondering if you were there or not. Oh well, next time :D

Had no idea Brom was there either, I was just kinda wandering aimlessly. That place was huge! I'll definitely have to have more of a gameplan next time.
