View Full Version : London Concept/Digital Artists Group?

Hello All!
I wanted to know if anyone has ever thought about somehow getting some of the london members in Conceptart.com (or anywhere really) to meet. Id love to sit and have coffee and chat about concept art and sketch and socialise with people who are passionate about digital art, concept art and imaginative art in general.
Its the sharing of idea's and inspiration that really moves one forward. Anyone know of a group like this? If not... anyone want to go and chat over coffee and a sketchbook sometime?
Cheers
Kim

I've often thought this, but I'm fairly certain that nobody would really rush at the chance to come to sunny Swindon just to draw with me! ;)

I would love an event like this in the UK. I think i'd come away from it buzzing with ideas for new work.
I live in Derby but i'd certainly make the effort to attend.

i'd love to, but i live in cardiff, which is in wales :( it takes about 5 hours to get to london and it costs like £30 for a coach (my mum wouldnt have time to take me)
so i guess, unless you all want to come down to the chearfull town of cardiff (*smirk*) i guess i cant attend something like this :(
nice idea though.

Hey dirty_c, Cartoonfox!
I think this is a cool idea! After Amsterdam, I need to be gossiping about art/colour/light blah blah blah, I miss it nuff...
Sketchling - your stuff is cool man, serious. I would love to sit down and chat art etc, maybe we could all meet up sometime? I've been sketching nuff since I got back from A'Dam, and would like to show what I've been up to. Plus, meet other UK peeps from CA, it always look like ppl are from America, or are European (French/Belgium/Nethelands etc etc)
St1ckman - cheer up! There's ways and means for us all to meet up over a weekend some time. I'd make the effort, if I knew others would. If not, PM UK ppl, for advice or a quick chat.
We're all not THAT far away, are we?

man i really wonna join in this, but theres no way i can come all the way up to london just to draw with some peeps for a few hours. its just too exspensive for a few hours.
if it was a little closer to me, like maybe bristol or somewhere, i could go, but london is too far.
maybe we should grab a map and pin point where we all live, and then try and find a place eaquall to all our locations.
but i dont think that would work, as most of you live in and around london, i'm the only one outside :/
nice idea, i guess i have to wait untill prague.

Well I live in Derby, So London is reachable but I'd also be able to make it to Bristol just a easy if not easier.
I think we need a few more people involved before it's feasable really.

This is great! :) I'm currently in London studying a digital art course ... it'd be cool to meet up with fellow UK artists for an art jam or something. I can totally sympathize with having to pay train fare to travel to London though. They're costly!
Heheh, sketchling, you're called Kim too ... except I happen to be female. ;)

Talk is cheap land lubbers. So here's some more :P
The first thing I wanna do is get an idea of how many peeps we're looking at. So if I picked a random date, like the first weekend in May, how many people would be keen to do something in central london? Depending on how many people say they're keen, we can look at what kind of venue we need.
So chime in with the following info, if you would:
Where you live.
What media you work in now
What media you want to work in (ie: what needs improvement)
If you think the first weekend of May is realistic for you to spend a day in london.
Rock on.

I'm up for some face time with some other conceptualising Britishers. I'm in the Midlands, but I don't mind travelling to the smoke, and I'll happily offer a lift to anyone else coming from the Derby / Notts area. Unless, of course, you only want real Landanaahs?
Sounds like you have some, er...learning in mind, Dirty?
First weekend in May is fine with me at the moment, but family and work are very unpredictable, so who knows..? ;)
Dirty C
April 13th, 2004, 04:11 PM
Yeah, I guess I figured we'd all feel better about doing it if we could pick something up from the experience. Other than the inevitable hangover that is :P
Whatever, any face time is good wit yo talented selves I'm sure.

Some sort of organised activity is a very good idea - I'll be happy with anything that involves waving my drawing arm near some paper ( or a graphic tablet ). If you have many 'out of towners' might it be an idea to do a museum / gallery or two? You'll get some decent sketching in at the Natural History museum or National Portrait Gallery, too...
Dirty C
April 13th, 2004, 05:39 PM
Excellent idea. To be honest, I've always felt like a wanker drawing in public, but hey, if getting in people's way unnecessarily helps you meet Madonna, i guess it's just gotta be done :D
So let's go with that idea - a museum or gallery will be the focus. There's plenty of intresting architecture down by the Thames if we get bored of that too.

Awesome, this is starting to sound achievable. I'm up for any date on the weekend!

am i the only good boy here who does what i'm told?... ^-^
where i live :cardiff, (wales)
what media i use now : i use just pencil and ink pens right now.
what media i would like to use: well, i would like to bring my tablet and practice painter, as i have hardley ever used and i need to learn. but i dont have a laptop. also i am gonna grab some letroset inks (what coro uses) and gouache, for use in my sketchbook (coro style ^-^)
first weekend of may sounds good to me. like i said before, i cant say for sure that i can attend, as it costs alot to travel to london from where i am. but if it where two days (thae whole weekend) that would be better for me, as my dad lives in london and i could stay with him for the night. would be a better use of my money too, staying for 2 days rather than one.
peace

Hey
I think a weekend would be cool, like Cartoonfox has suggested, that way we can all meet properly blah blah...
Location: Central London
Media used: pencil, pen, cpu
Media I'd like to use: Painter, Oil paints and Gouache, I'm so shit!
First weekend in May is cool!
Museums/Gallerys/people any subjects good for me!
Mollyx

Ok, guess i gotta join in.
Weekend of 1st and 2nd of May is good for me.
My history is in drawing old-fashioned style, and alot of comic stuff. I need to broaden my vocabulary to include architecture and trees and stuff :P Also I need major work on colour work. Believe me, I've been working on the same pic since the workshop, and still finding it frustrating trying to apply what I've learnt. So come on all the painters out there!
Still wanna hear a few more replies, so we know how many we're looking at. Feel free to PM me if you're not sure or whatever.
*Kim-L*
April 15th, 2004, 02:01 PM
Heyaheya, things are looking up! :)
What media I work in now: I'm embarassed to say I'm completely digital. Haven't touched a pencil or pen in months. :P
What media you want to work in: Uhm, I wouldn't mind learning to use real oils or gouache for a change from their digital counterparts in Painter. *g*
At the moment, beginning of May sounds cool. Hopefully I can spare a day or something then. There're a ton of art galleries to visit for those not living in London, especially the Portrait Gallery and the Tate Modern. Interesting stuff there.
Molly: Thanks! :) I appreciate you visiting my website. My portfolio is practically online 'cos I work all digital ... but I wouldn't mind printing out some of my work on paper or something.

Hey Kim!
I just took a look at your site, and the walkthrough is really great. Not having a good background in painting or whatever myself, it's always good to see how other people attack these things. I really iike the idea of rendering the piece in black and white first and coming up with values. I think I'll steal that approach :)
Your stuff is really great! And by the way - phwoar!! (http://www.neo-epiphani.com/artarchive/8-chiariso-oldconcept-2003.jpg)

Sounds good to me > May might be a bit short notice due to my status as an actual starving artist, but i'd like to be included in any future events
where i live : Nottingham
what media i use now : Polygons for work, photoshop for pleasure
what media i would like to use: Pencils! Charcoal! Paint! Anthing that makes a mess and ends up smeared all over every available surface!
Nice to see some fellow UK'ers at last

Sounds like a great thing to do maybe once every few months. I'm going to be in Middlesbrough all the way through May, but I'll be entirely up for any future summer events.
Where I live: London
What media I use now: Pencils and digital
What media I'd enjoy using: Anything and everything
A museum trip would be cool.

Hey Fellow Brits and Ramon (We'll adopt you as an honary Brit!)!!
Well, I really never realised that there were this many Brits on the forum! I don't think I met that many in Amsterdam. Molly was there and a couple of others and that was it! But great stuff....Let's NOT be shameful...Let us all come out of the CLOSET together and proclaim to ALL, "I'm British and I draw and paint and I'm PROUD!" We don't have to feel ashamed of ourselves or dirty any longer, peering over our shoulders incase someone has caught us tenaciously filling our sketchbooks.......Let us ALL come together, brothers and sisters and meet in the British ARTland!
First weekend of May it is then, although I have to say that I haven't as yet done a tremendous amount and incorporated into my workwhat was taught in Amsterdam.
Anyway, here are the required details:
Location: Leamington Spa
Media used: pencil and that's all!
Media I'd like to use: Painter, Oil paints and Gouache, I'm so shit! (I just pasted this from dear Molly cos it applies to me as well, Sz Mol! I just draw, that's why my painting sucks!)
First weekend in May is cool!

I'd love to come, however my workload right now is very tight. I haven't had time to put pencil to paper in some time as I've been poly pushing. Once it's eased off and I get comfy with my awful drawing again I'll be sure to come along!

Salisbury? Hmm.. that wouldn't be so bad, now would it? Though I imagine there's a thousand available high-res photos of stone henge for us to copy elsewhere.
I've been to a few insane farm parties in Derby actually. My old flatmate was from there, and used to throw huge parties in his barn. 50-odd isnane people, many hands in air hehe

a uk workshop would be awesome :P we can get people like village idiot to come down and show us his speedpainting techniques lol :)
