I've lurked too long I'm afraid and have decided to throw my lot into the hat and start a daily (hopefully!) sketchbook.

This is stuff I have done the past couple of days with the tree stuff done awhile ago. A lot of it is just me rambling with a pencil. :D

Welcome! Nice start dude, you seem to have a pretty good grasp on perspective. From the works you've posted I would say to just keep hammering on the anatomy, drawing from life as much as possible, and also maybe get a big pad of newsprint and just do big long fluid strokes using your entire arm. Fill up pages and pages of marks, play with line weight and emotional quality of the mark...this will help build dexterity with the drawing tool. In fact I need to do more dexterity exercises myself!


Keep it up dude, pound the shit out of that sketchbook!

This was my first attempt at using large newsprint, so it took a couple poses to get used to the size. I've actually got more stuff to scan in but I'm too tired and lazy to run down and get the sketchbook out of the car. :D

Small update today. I've had family in town so I've spending time with them.

I'm starting to get some more confidence going while at the same time trying different sketching techniques that I've observed over the past couple of weeks. I still have problems with arms, feet, faces, etc. I'll probably dedicate a couple of pages the next couple of days to master copies and Bridgman studies.

I hope to start getting my feet wet with traditional painting media soon (after Austin workshop) but I want to get more basics down beforehand.

nice stuff, Gonzo. I like how you're distorting proportions to make some interesting looking figures. Not quite mega man-esque, but he comes to mind. However on some of your figures the proportions look somewhat skewed, and it's not completely obvious whether it's intentional or not. maybe some complete figure drawings (as opposed to just torsos or something) will show us that you can do correct proportions if you want to. ^^ keep up the good work.
