Spartan Camp #173 - 50 gestures + Optional "Movie still study"
The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 6th of March.
- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!
- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Movie still study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:
Inspired by last weeks Academy Awards!
Movie stills can be a great source of reference. They offer varied poses in varied settings and can provide good reference for figures 'in motion'. This week, the optional study requires you to draw (any number of) figures from movies. Clothed, unclothed, full figures or closeups - specifics are yours to decide.
You can use youtube for fragments, or pause a DVD, or anything else you can come up with. There are also a number of websites that offer screencaps. Examples below.

http://www.allmoviephoto.com/photo/
As always- reference is not obligatory. Colour, medium, time frame, any specifics are up to you! Good luck and have fun! And feel free to ask questions!
50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.
Criticizing each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference images and resources!! Let's help each other get better!
Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

Lots of cool stuff guys. And yeah my main intention was to analyze the basic forms of animals i've not drawn a lot. ggnastist is that digital work or are you using traditional media?

ReggieR3MOTE That's all traditional, watercolor and charcoal. Not so great with digital ones.

Good job, everyone, where are the usual other people?
I will be late again, I drew unusually much, with pencil at that... I spent 2 hours to make a big jpeg... and realized I have much more stuff... ooops.
I need to work tidier but I have a chaotic mind...
And the result will be a huge jpeg, I can't help it.
Oh my.
(I make my life so hard. Drawing a lot with pencil... What was I thinking? :D
And I felt I drew still a bit too little... :^^;: *shakes head*)
EDIT:
Here they are... Just a tiny bit skull and almost-anime to fill space :D
It's all I did this week, except the usual skeletons I always do and some silly sketches.

From now on, I will try to draw many gestures by myself. I copied so much in my life and I really hope it wasn't in vain... But I'm totally lost when I try to draw a human figure without a reference. And I will never start to draw pictures, not copies and studies, if I can't draw someone than strongly resembles the human body.
No optionals this week either.

ReggieR3MOTE - Like these a lot! Those lions are pretty tough, probably because the manes make them look a lot bigger than they really are. Nice approach. I think the bear in the top-left corner of your last scan turned out really well- strong sense of mass.
ggnastist - Those are getting really nice. I like how the expressions are pretty good too. Just the hands get a little clumsy sometimes. Always enjoy your use of different media ;)
manlybrian - Cool! Huge variation too. I also like that you used pen, which really forces you to 'think about your lines' because you can't erase them. When you are running out of space and figures are getting in each others' way, I'd say you can just overlap them. I've noticed you don't always use the 'cross' to help with perspective on heads. Judging from some of the other poses, seems you can do without though. Nice going!
shiNIN - I really think you got some exceptional improvement in those heads. And not just the heads, also the drawing itself is very clean and seems confident. Add necks more often I'd say, and go for heads from different angles! That way you'll really get to know the shapes. Lots of character in these heads too. Very nice job shinin.

Thanks! You must be right, even I noticed I'm better with heads :) In the past all my faces were kind of similar... Now they have more variety and character.
Human head is the only thing I can draw by myself :(
I know, I know, I should draw necks and shoulders (I try it sometimes... it's damn hard and fail and I avoid it subconsciously just like figures :() - I suffered much with different angles as well and I will practice that but right now I focus on variety and I can't design a face even in 3/4 view - or I just didn't try...?
Human faces... I studied them a lot, I bought two books about portrait drawing and read/watched every tutorial I met and I still learn kind of basic things about them...
