Hello, to all! Been a browser for a while and just decided to register. Let me just say the caliber of work here is amazing. Every day the boards are like a volume of Spectrum. (By the way, why is "9" so late?!?) I truly hope to learn as much as I can from you guys.

Which brings me to my question; what sort of samples are included in a concept artist portfolio? Any one area stressed over another? I feel stressed that I’m spinning my wheels with no real direction. If someone could steer me in the right direction with some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

concept artist portfolio? That completely depends really what you are applying for.

If it's for college, You would try to do 1/3 Life drawings, 2/3 Studys for life, 1/3 Self Created. Check the college first though. If you are applying for a job, a website is one of the best things you can have now. I know my friend Mike May(mikespencil.com) sends out postcards with a series of line art printed on it with contact information on the back, including his website.

If you are applying in person, it's best to either ask what they are looking for or bring YOUR BEST and a variety of different subjects, a few character designs, a few vechicle designs, a few landscapes, and probably would be best to show a vast understanding of different subjects/cultures in your works. If you can do 1000 character designs for cowboys and the company you are applying for is a sci-fi related company, good luck...
