ROUND #234:: Gods of Media and Technology



DESCRIPTION


The Gods of Media and Technology


In ancient cultures, there existed many gods who represented different aspects of everyday life: Apollo, god of music, Amaterasu, goddes of the sun, Osiris, god of death etc. What if this polytheistic system of gods and guardians still existed today? What would these modern gods look like?

Design a god/guardian of modern media and/or technology.

Examples:

Goddess of mobile phoning
Guardian of internet
Goddess of videogames
God of magazines
Guardian of television etc.

Can be male or female
The setting is modern time, style can be anything!
Pick a modern technology and let this inspire your design
Give him/her appropriate attributes (like Zeus, god of thunder, usually carries a thunderbolt).

God Of Nuclear Warfare. Realise it's not the same as "Magazines" etc. But it is a modern technology, and is more and more becoming something that people think of on a day to day basis. You can't watch the news without some murmur of WMD somewhere.

My votes this week got to: tokotewhero and rgeorge.
I really like how both of you developed your characters.

Hard one! Even though the voting is multiple-choice I prefer to vote for only one piece, and my choice was between these four:

Crumbelievable - I like the modern executive look - some gods would definitely look like that if they existed nowadays, and it also goes well with the marketing angle. It has a Gaiman feel to it which works nicely. His pose suggests multi-tasking and "being everywhere at once", and the movement to his jacket helps make it even more dynamic. There's something a bit off about his legs, a glitch in proportion or perspective or something. In addition, I think you could let the cables flow a little more instead of dropping straight to the floor, so they'll be more visible and add to the dynamism.

Carnifex - the pose is great, and I adore the expression and the hands. The pink hues are very fitting, and maybe he could've used some more dramatic lighting, to enhance his creepiness even more.

tokotewhero - great design. The square bits flying off of him convey really well both "evolving" and "technological", and he looks chaotic and evil. Very much the image of a virus overlord. It doesn't quite say "character" right away, and can also be taken as a creature design...but I guess not all gods are entirely humanoid in appearance.

FilRam - very nice! He definitely feels like a high-tech-oriented higher being. I like the sphere he's attached to, it's a very interesting addition. Maybe a slightly more impressive pose would have given him more of that godly je-n'ai-sais-quoi.

Eventually I went for tokotewhero, for designing a really strong and impressive entity that personifies its realm very well.

So true...I wish I could put all cat-based memes, but that'd make it more of a "Crazy Cat Lady" CHOW. I used Dramatic Cat as a feline symbol for all of them.
