Concept landscape for upcoming PC game. Having done so many character/monster concepts prior to this, going back and doing landscapes was a breath of much needed air. I'll post up some more backstory when I get the ok from the legal department.
C & C encouraged and welcomed...

Thanks. The original is tea paper with watercolors with helped get the organic points. After blocking off the main colored sections, it still looked rather muted so I pumped up the high points using Photoshop.

Is this some obscure material I've never heard of, or just regular paper stained with tea?
Nice job, BTW. Reminds me of Charles Vess.

I really like the 'feel' of your painting. It draws the eye nicely until you get to whatever is going on behind your tower...clouds? The colors/lines kinda detract from the flow.

just regular paper stained with tea?
You can buy it at art media store but it's not worth the price. You can make it at home with some cheaper materials and alittle bit of time.
1. Brew some tea or coffee (tea for lighter stains/coffee for darker ones).
2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
3. Take some heavy stock paper, put them in a single-layer in a edged cookie-sheet. Pour the tea over the pages till its just barely covers them.
4. Put the cookie sheet in the heated oven for about 15 minutes. You can leave them in longer for darker sheets or more pronounced stains...just make sure you don't burn the hell out of them.
5. Take the stained pages out while they are STILL WET! Put them on a wire rack or counter to dry. If you want flat paper you might want to cover them with wax paper and lay a heavy book on them for a couple hours.

Again, thanks. I guess there has been such a good response to this piece that the art director wants me to finish it up as a finished piece to show the big wigs.
