Just a new digital painting I'm working on. There are still some things to fix, and I need to go in and create the background, but what do you guys think? I stopped workin on this today, kinda wanted to take a break and step back from it, but I would like to add a background and fix any problems you guys might see. For the background I was thinking something along the lines of a destroyed city, but should it be a brighter or darker background. Like the buildings in sillouet or not... ya know. Any critiques would be great. Thanks!

Posted the final up in the final images section, thanks everybody!

I like it. :)
I think the buildings should be approx the colorscheme they are now, lighte rthe further eaway they are (colorperspective).

Keep me updated :)

Thanks for the ONLY critique Johannes! lol!

I worked in some buildings and changed the face so it had a mask, rather then the water bottle breather type thing. I still want to tweak it. Not done yet! What does everybody think of the mask instead? Any critiques would be great.

I might almost add just a few highlights to the face (assuming thats the focus?). When you added the background, did you add on a new layer? or paint it around the figure? I don't know beans about digital painting...

Yup, the background is on a new layer... actually it might be two layers. I still want to go in and clean it up a bit. I like the idea of adding some highlights to the face, so I'll add that in the next update. thanks!

any more critiques would be great... didn't think this would be so tough...

My biggest complaint is the wind/sand effect in the foreground, it's really the gray smudges around the end of the gun and the back of it. Maybe using a brush with higher feathering when doing atmospheric effects would be better.

To me it seems like the lightsource lies somewhere to the right side of the character but at places it seems to be a bit more random, as in the belly region and the face, it feels as if these parts should be darker. The riflebutt would have some brighter highlights to i guess. Tightening the edges of the background buildings would make them look more solid and less sketchy.

Other than that I think it has some real potential and mood!
