I'm a character skinner/all-around 2D guy for the total conversion The Opera, formerly for Half-Life and now for Unreal Tournament 2003.

We're taking a character-based approach to our player model selection this time around, much like Tekken or similar fighting games where one character will have several looks. Any critiques or comments you could offer on these would be greatly appreciated. I'm at an awkward point in my progress, and I'm not sure exactly what I need to work on to make the next leap.

Anyway, here we go.

Li Shenghuo A.K.A. Mark Li, freelance assassin.:

Well, thats about all I have to show for now. Comments/critiques are, again, encouraged. Thanks.

I hate to do this, but I don't know why my threads consistently go un-replied to on these forums and the conceptualdesignforum.com boards. I'm not looking for a ton of posts saying "hey gj" etc, Im looking for a critique, and nobody is giving me one. Soooo....

*bump*

Forgive me.

Don't be discouraged, I too have noticed a good chunk of my posts never getting any feedback but just keep posting. Shy users?!

I like the idea of alternate costume choice in games. Soul Calibur on Dreamcast allowed for choosing alternate costumes too, but you had to collect enough points.

Anyways, I think you got some interesting stuff going there...definitly don't want to mess with that bunch of characters. Wang Zhu Long's suit and hat are pretty cool with the striped fabric. Sasaki's helmeted costume remindes me of SWAT team cops, but can work.

My general suggestion is to really pay attention to rendering, and some construction in your figures. When it comes to marker renders (or any kind) break the figure into planes and find the direction of the light source. Then determin which sides the light fall on and which sides will remain in shadow. It can really jazz up your designs. If it helps, use a pencil to outline the shadow and light areas (planes). It might definitly help to learn more anatomy too. There are a great deal of books and figure drawing work shops out there. This is one guy that I think has some great figure drawing resources http://vilppustudio.com. There are also the Loomis books, standards for illustrators if you can find them.

Hope it helps. :chug:
