Microsoft Game Studios’ Good Science team (team behind Kinect Adventures) is looking for a highly-talented Concept Artist to help expand the Xbox universe. Be a part of one of the most innovative and creative teams, consisting of top industry professionals who just shipped the first launch title for Kinect. This is a rare opportunity to work with a team of game industry experts tackling the challenges of creating entertainment experiences which use software and hardware technologies in new ways.
Qualified individuals are expected to communicate and collaborate well throughout a development team. Candidates will have a proven track record in creating a broad range of artistic styles and concepts. Candidates are versed in programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, or equivalent programs, as well as knowledge with current console creation techniques. The Concept Artist has a deep understanding of popular trends in graphic design and development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Concept Artist is responsible for working closely with the art director and level designers to assist in the previsualization of characters, environments, props, and all other art related assets in the form of traditional and/or digital 2D drawings, texture swatches, color boards, and storyboards
Provide detailed concept drawings and designs for architectural as well as natural (organic) level objects to be built by 3D artists
Render detailed level drawings and/or paintings in 2D based on primitive geometry provided by designers
Maintain consistent style under the direction of the Art Director
Responsible for seeking feedback from peers and leads.
When needed the Concept Artist will assist in the creation of textures and matte paintings for in-game use on characters, environments and user interface
When needed the Concept Artist will assist in the creation of marketing materials and assets
Participate in meetings and reviews, as part of effective communication with the team
Give appropriate feedback to improve the creative process in a collaborative environment
Be a positive and creative force in the team.
Consistently meet project deadlines and milestones set by project leads
Organized, self-motivated and able to identify and meet goals
PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent drawing and conceptualization skills with an ability to adapt to a wide and diverse range of artistic styles.
Understanding of fundamental illustration skills including composition, perspective and color theory.
Firm grasp of formal and avant-garde lighting techniques.
Understanding of surface texture, anatomy, and architecture.
Digital illustration skills with an advanced understanding of Photoshop
Understanding of form, composition, and use of detail
