Hey guys. This one I inked about 6 years ago. Happen to run across it and figured I would try to color it on my Mac. My problem is, I started laying on some markers right on top of the inks. Well, Im trying to seperate the inks from the markers in photoshop, but many of the values are too similar to seperate cleanly. So I loose a good portion of the detail if I try to Level the markers out. Im cosidering converting the markers to grayscale and making the layer a multiply layer and using the gray scale markers as tonal values, while putting the new colors in behind. But I feel this might look muddy. Any suggestions?
Here is a look after converting to greyscale.

One thing you could try that wouldn't take too long is basically do your grayscale/multiply layer thing, but to prevent muddiness, cut up the piece into a few separate areas(i.e. separate the foreground land, figure, sky, ship, on different layers or selections), then colorize each of these a very little bit using hue/saturation>colorize. That's just to give them a hint of the hue you're going to color them in, rather than just have gray.

You could also do Gradient Maps to get the desired color effect and utilize your gray colors that are already in place. You could still cut up the layers, or just use multiple work paths to seperate them for selection purposes.
Off the subject, how do you assign yourself an icon, like you have for instance?

lawlessbe, make a Very small picture of whatever you want. I think the most you can have is 80x80 pixels. Then post it on a sight like photobucket, put the url in the avatar options in your account info. Thats all their is too it!

Thanks! One other thing. In the color version you have now, the large spaceship in the background should be a slightly different color then the ground and the mountains. Just a thought. Thanks again.

Yeah, that version I started 6 years ago, and I just started laying in the base colors so it was no where near finished.

Looking back now, I don't know where I was even going with some of those colors. LOL!:p
