Being very impressed by Ryan Church's work for the attack of the clones, I challenged myself : What will I do if I had to work for the third episode of starwars ?
So I try to apply a specific mood to a fight between 2 jedis on a lava planet.
I took the idea that the planet is completely unstable as the mind of Anakin. So the stone is liquifing all the time, and reform itself on an other place the second after. It will be very intense for the duel, and very hard to do for the ILM team :)
Here is the picture : 3h photoshop and a dozen of lava photographs I found on the net.

wow! i dig it! great color and light. one thing, and it is minor, the steam and smoke from the lava has clear evidence of the digital brush you were using. in allot of cases this is fine and works with the set up vocabulary of the painting but with yours, since you did such a fantastic job on everything it sticks out a little too much.
great to see your work.

Amazing concept!...I reckon your concep will be better then what they really come up with...I can imagine this paticular scene ending up like the end of terminator 2 in a factory with a big lava pit...:o

i like the placement of the good? (blue) jedi right in the center, as a stabilizing element, around which the rest of the comp is spinning.

I'm with Mr. Foster on this one. Fix that smoke and you'd have one badass environmental piece.

other than it's nice the jedis are dissappearing in the landscape and(which isn't that important for a painter but should maybe be and should definately be for a moviemaker) it is unrealistic.if one stands on lava that behaves that way he would have melted long ago

Hey Bone,
Love the initial concept and execution and of course, the ability to take an idea and ACTUALLY execute it. Sweet portfolio piece and one I'd send to ILM if I were you. The revised version is a vast improvement with regard to the steam/fumes/smoke...
An inspiration for sure!
And with you.

I think it looks great. I wish I had thought of it myself. I will say this, to me the bright areas are not aways clear as to whether or not they are lava or tunnels that are illuminated by lava, espec in the forground. But its still dope.
