[EDITED BY WmBHand: ]
If you've got some really great topic idea, or you're just sick of my weirdness, then add your suggestions here. Although I certainly don't utilize all of these, I do occasionally dip into this suggestion box for ideas, so feel free to toss something in here if you think it's really got some substance.
Incidentally, we are limited by some of the forum's defaults (e.g. 86 characters max. for the topic header) and often topic suggestions must be refined or pared down to fit the header requirements.

"NATURAL DISASTERS" is a week-long series, but feel free to take it apart. Besides, I can see how people would get pissed off if there were 7 "Environment : " topics in a row. I was hesitant to put "Thunderstorm" on there because it's been done so many times in artwork.

I don't know if this is out of place, but I thought it'd be cool to take quotes and interpret what you will from them:
"Good, Bad,... I'm the guy with the gun"
"Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
"I'm not even supposed to be here today!"
"Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion."
"And the seventh rule... if this is your first night at fight club, you have to fight."
FYI, that is the seventh and final rule. In the movie there were eight, but the book didn't have the rule about tapping out or going limp.
Oh, and a quote I made up -- sort of an inside joke:
"Ghost Train walks alone..."

We actually played a game at school today based on the DSG. we are given 5 mins to draw the topic with points for quality, stlye, originality etc. very fun indeed.
some of our topics were;

an african animal moving along the surface of water
a chain smoking, binge drinking antelope or Gazelle
A killer Vending machne (my favourite)
a walking car (very creative)
and many more.
come up with some really bizarre stuff guys!

hey, i had this cool idea before. it'd be kinda like this but instead of a dailyt sketch group, have a daily colout group. if you could get someone to draw something every day for us all to colour, that would be heaps cool and help us lesser photoshop able beings into gaining experience.

Youse guys, andres_pad and Jabajawoolu, there is a thread like that:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17968
IN THIS VERY FORUM!!! It's an amazing thread, those who haven't perused it yet should.
Also, another idea struck me today for a DSG:
"NO! NOT COWS!"
Somebody wrote something in class that made me think about a guy with a calf. So I tried to draw a calf and I really have no clue how to draw a cow. IT IS TRICKY! So I thought it might be a worthwhile DSG.

My first suggestion ^_^. I tried to keep it as short as possible.
Monster: Arachnae Horror
A truely monstrous spider whose abdomen is covered in the roiling and pained faces of the souls which are trapped inside of it, as if they were pressing against the inside in order to escape. The spider would have a human head, like that of an old hag or corpse, but instead of a mouth would have insectoid mandibles for feeding. The two front legs could have a magic effect surrounding them, suggesting that the creature uses magic as a natural part of its unnatural ability to feed from living souls.

Hi. I totally understand how you feel, deviousg. I think that there's still value in it, though.
It might just be me, but I find it very easy to fall back on drawing what I can already draw well--it's like a pat on the back. "Ah! Another brilliantly rendered slice of cheesecake! God, I'm good!" The only problem with that kind of artistic jerking off is that I never get better at anything else except drawing dessert.
It is my firm belief that as soon as you find yourself hating what you're drawing, you're learning something. It just doesn't become apparent until later, when you magically stop hating it.
Having said that, I did skip the Underwater Mall DSG and go draw some cheesecake, so I have your back, deviousg. :D

maybe it could be interesting do have some kind of main theme for a week .
i mean to make an enviornment at the first day and making some characters ,vehicles and creatures ,that fit to the enviornment and to each other , at the following days.
of course the main theme could be just optional.

I love this idea. Its like a cross between the DSG and thunderdome imo. Like the DSG in that parts of topics are set for that day and anyone can submit work, and like thunderdome in that its all workin towards a target finished piece(s) at the end of the week.
Anyway I hope they do something like this, it would be awesome :)

THE WATCHERS: known also as the Grigori. from A Dictionary of Angels including the fallen angels Compiled by Gustave Davidson
According to the Book of Jubilees, the Watchers are the sons of God (Genesis 6) sent from heaven to instruct the children of men; they fell after they descended to earth and cohabited with the daughters of men- for which act they were condemned (so legend reports) and became fallen angels. But not all Watchers descended: those that remained are teh holy Watchers, and they reside in the 5th Heaven. The evil watches dwell either in the 3rd Heaven or in Hell.

I was thinking of suggesting a thread where people could pick whatever they like from this list and post their work. There are some really inspiring topics and I know the day they come up as the official DSG topic will be a day I skip the DSG. Thoughts on this, anyone?
Nagel
September 28th, 2004, 12:03 AM
I'm all for this idea because I was thinking the same thing as well. I'm sure most people will reply: "just pick a topic and draw it... it doesn't matter".
I think it would be great if you could somehow track which thread someone picked the topic from.
So you still get the DSG and the DSI (daily sketch ideas). Or something of that form or another. haha...
Anyways....

Can I veto topics like "Bunker", "Shock", "Druid Dudes", "Creepy Doorman", "Blue", "Smile", "Pain", "Wound", "Life", "Death" etc.?
No offence to anyone, but these are some of the most boring topics ever.
The point is not to just throw everything up here, but to come with topics that make people think, and not just because they're so vague you're at a loss. I don't participate here too often mainly because the topics have just felt rather dull and uninspiring. I think with much more interesting topics, people would want to try harder. Some of the topics wouldn't be as lame if they were put into some sort of context, but standing alone, they're certainly nothing to write home about. If you're going to post "bodily injuries", why not throw a little bit of story into it: Post Dragon Fight Injury or something... not that they have to be that specific, but it's not that interesting to illustrate a broken arm, nor is it a topic that will make people want to come with a good story for the most part.
Anyway, I'll post some of my own when I get back from work just so I don't look like so much of a chump :dur: and hopefully I don't stick my foot in my mouth.

Daniel,
As I took it, the DSG was to just put ideas down. I'm not sure who the "other" uninspiring ideas were posted by, but definately you singled me out as one.
"Bodily Injuries" obviously is a broad category, which i'll agree with you on, and to write a whole scene down wouldn't make sense. But if you want me to help you construct a scene, just ask and i'll help you. It's there to make you think so I don't have to tell you what to draw. The point of concept art is just that... concept. You are the artist and think of the context to put your art in. It's very subjective as i'm sure everyone would agree.
You also obviously were able to think of: "Dragon Fight Injury or something", which tells me that something must've been ticking away in that brain of yours. So don't single people out on here as lame if they don't meet your godlike status. We're trying and would appreciate a little slack.
Sorry, but you pissed me off by being so ignorant and unrespectful not only to me but the rest of the community here.

Okay, first of all I appologize. I tried to make it clear that it wasn't about singling anybody out. Yes I threw out the whole Dragon thing as a remote possibility... while I completely understand the possible value of vague topics, they're not the most inspiring. The point is, a lot of people seem to be throwing out topics without thinking about them, unless they are actually inspirational to them, which is fine. I do not have godlike standards, and have never EVER passed myself off as such. We're all working on our skills here, that's the whole point, but part of that... most of that is through story, without story, concepts mean nothing. You can come up with the cool LOOKING character, but without context, it will be nothing more than a cool drawing.
Nagel: Again, I appologize. I liked the Sniper Line of Site Death one, cause that starts creating a story, before you even think! And that's what I'm talking about. There comes a point when a topic is TOO vague. I love being left with options, but when something is the equivolent of "Draw anything", then it becomes a bit dull. And then, of course, there is the danger of getting too specific.
I'm not saying I'm the greatest story teller of all time, I know I'm lacking in many regards, and know WHERE I'm lacking. Basically, most of the topics posted here seem like the people weren't even thinking about them, that's basically what I was trying to say. I know I came off as being a bit harsh, I was in a hurry, and should've thought more about what I was typing, so again, my most sincere appologies to everyone... I really meant no offence.
I really love the whole idea of the DSG, and it's what got me to join ConceptArt in the first place. I just dont' want to see it digress, and I want to see it go somewhere that will push people even more, not just in technical skills, but thought processes as well. I haven't been participating because school and work and guitar have kept me from it, but I'm going to try and and get in on it mroe from now on. Anywho, time for bed. Cheers all! Nagel, no hard feelings I hope :( that's that last thing I want here. Peace

Okay, assuming the bot is working normally, here's a handful of illostration descriptions I got from Fantasy Flight for stuff that has been published. Try your hand
Dragon staring into its own reflection in a pool of water; can vaguely make out a reflection of a human shape staring back up at him.
Goth wrought-iron archway into back alley, stairs up a fire escape, on the wall near the fire escape stairs is a wooden sign with an arrow burned/carved into it, pointing up. Also burned/carved into the sign, in a middle-eastern script, are the words "Abu Zaad"
Fae lying in ambush; close-up of their otherworldly angular faces, shadows from the leaves and branches their hiding behind playing on their faces, thorn-like organic weapons held at the ready.
Creepy old aslyum at the top of a hill, surrounded by low hedges and protected by ornate gate. The name of the asylum is lost in shadow.
anyway, if you want to see what I did, just check my sketch thread. These were all done for their Fireborn roleplaying game series.
Cheers,

Hi all, first post here.
There's a website out there with cartoons based on actual spam subject lines. You've probably seen it:
www.spamusement.com
I thought this would be a fun exercise in humor--keep it clean even when the spam line suggests something sleazy. It could be a recurring theme, the DSG could maintain a list of potentially interesting spam subject lines and occasionally throw one out under the "spam subject lines" theme.

I always enjoy topics in which there are no rules...Spaceships, battlemechs, monsters, etc...
I don't particularly like bring restricted as to what something should look like...
Topics that fulfil a purpose like a naval patrol boat, or a battleship, or an aircraft for scouting or fighting or bombing...even a tank...anything that lets us be completely original...
Things like...
An alien scout ship
A battleship of the future
A space freighter

I think it would be really interesting to see people's take on things when given just a single word and room to roam.
Just an idea.

i have an idea. dont know if its been done since there are so many topics already. but i think it would be cool to draw an alien evolutionary timeline. like the one with the monkey that evolves into a human that is in just about every science classroom. just that this one would be the evolution of an alien you make from one of its earlier forms to its current form. there should be a minimum of 5 stages and every stage shows a different trait. anyway, thats my idea.

Blaxploitation Movie poster
Blaxploitation is a portmanteau of the words "black" and "exploitation." It is a film genre which emerged in the United States in the early 1970s when many exploitation films were made that targeted the urban African American audience. The films featured primarily black actors, and were the first to have soundtracks of funk and soul music. Although criticized by civil-rights groups for their use of stereotypes, they addressed the great and newfound demand for afrocentric entertainment, and were immensely popular among black audiences.
Almost all blaxploitation films featured exaggerated sexuality and violence. When set in the North of the U.S., they tended to take place in the ghetto and deal with pimps, drug dealers, and hit men. When set in the South, the movies most often took place on a plantation and dealt with slavery and miscegenation. Controversy was heightened by the fact that these films were often written and directed by white men, although movies created by African Americans with similar themes have also been labeled as "blaxploitation."

Hope this one makes it:
"A beautiful thing that creates a feeling of guilt or shame"
The viewer is supposed to find the picture beautiful/interesting/attracting/encouraging/[any positive feeling]
But the idea of liking the picture is in some way disturbing for the viewer, and he enters a paradoxical, uneasy state of mind.

ummm, some 'sub-creative' tolkien ones...
"the first sunrise" (or "the last sunset")
"impenetrable fortress"
"war of the gods"
"tolkien scene"
and getting slightly more lateral...
"a creature/humonoid which reprisents a section of the human phsyche" (like the elves, dwarves, hobbits etc.)
i had more (better) ones, cant think of any right now though.

i have no idea why that is as funny as it is....but it is. great topic. I once saw an advert for some fancy japanese loo with water jets for butt cleansing...but they used a gorilla sitting on a loo and being thoughroughly confused by the feeling downunder(expression was priceless)...somehow your idea made me think of it...

How about a battle between two elemental Creatures ?
like fire versus water, or yahoo versus google even... (I know, not elemental, it just came to me)
seems a little like pokémon, might be good though, the different lightings and textures people use for the creatures might be cool contrasts and interesting to see, also that people might not normally do.
It can be done however, anyone ever see fantasia 2000 ? there's something in there of a phoenix type creature(volcano against a water creature or tree fairy thing..] might be decent subject for the dsg ?
