Hey frantic, nice painting!
I saw the pencil work for this back when you posted it...and I really didnt like it too much. The composition is fairly uninteresting, and I dont really understand what the hell is going on...lol
But, I like the paint job you did for the most part. Theres just a couple of things that bother me...
first, the blur on the tip of the sword just looks odd..the sword is in no way long enough or tilted enough for the area on one side of the chain to be sharp, and the area on the other to be severely blurred...plus, the blur just makes it look round..like a stick.
Also, the clouds/fog in the background could probably be better...right now it just seems like a kinda cheesy effect to fill your bg. The idea is pretty coolt hough, with the bats and red eyes.
keep it up man, your doin cool stuff!

todd mcfarlane? hmmm I really dig his work, but I wouldnt tell this image shows a lot of influence on todds art...in some way it does..but in many ways not..whatever..thank you anyway:))

:D yep definitely todd mcfarlane
but I would keep away from his approach which is VERY rough penciling and then going crazy over it.
I concur with amphex. the sketch was not good enough for a finish. you surely did a good paintjob, but that's no way to do it. Oh and this is no samurai. he doesn't even have a katana

the only issue I have that todd made is the spawn #4. other than that I dont have anything else... but even though it still looks like his art, I'm surely honored.

I don't see Todd's influence in this piece at all. Greg Capullo, yes... but McFarlane? No way!
McFarlane has a far cleaner style, where Capullo noodles all over the place.
Frantic: it's a good attempt bro, but sometimes less is more. Focus on shapes, and less on the little details.

Hmmmm. This is a tough one to critique for me. Im my ophinon, Its done pretty well, although I don't really like the cartoony style. By that I mean, his face looks extremely expressive and his hands look to round and swollen. The colors are handled well. The inverted logs and chains look nice. I think the bats aren't necessary and his clothes are more akin to a ninjas, and his sword looks like it has a bicycle handle for a pomel. I think the problem I have with this style is that it looks like a looneytune cartoon with a lot of detailed texture. that doesn't seem to work together to me. I definately see Capullo. And his style is much like McFarlanes that I can see his influence as well. I still think its pretty good.

hmm....todd mcfarlane, greg capullo...and looney tunes...all in one... I think its time for you guys to decide what style I stand for exactly..or is it hard to define?:)

Biggest problem here is the super awkward pose...the placement of the arm totally destroys the silhouette. The lighting (or lack of lighting) also makes this thing look flat as a pancake.

the main thing i see is his pose. is he falling over? is he stepping to a differnt log? also the relationship between the hips to knee to ankle on his right leg (one wrapped by the chain) isnt too convincing. also i cant picture a ninja/ samurai holding his sword and free arm in that manner, even when falling.
i do like your stlye and i hope that you took this as constructive.

the tip of the blade looks WAY to rounded off IMO
