I am currently trying to make my own brush in painter 8, but I can't seem to get it right.
I have read the manual, and what I do is that I make a couple of dots in black on white, draw a selection around them and hit "capture dab".
Then what? Am I doing it wrong? What's the next step?

Hints on how to make captured brushes are welcome! I want to make brushes for hair (like a couple of small dots) and bigger ones for texturing.

Any advice?

Hi,

If you know the default brush variant on which you want to base your Captured Dab variant, first select that default brush variant.

Then make a selection of the image you want to use as the Captured Dab image.

Use the Capture Dab command.

Save your custom Captured Dab brush variant giving it a unique name not already used by Painter.

Or...

After you capture the image and save the custom Captured Dab brush variant, make any setting adjustments you want and either save it with a new name or save it again with the same name (this will overwrite the first saved variant).

TIP:

In Painter 8, be sure not to hold down the Alt/Option key while making the square selection or the Capture Dab command will be greyed out. Just eyeball the square selection instead.

Good luck,
