Still WIP because classes are really beating on me. Started to model the claws... This is taking forever to finish. I hate taking forever on one project. :o

You're off to a terriffic start man! This one is no easy task, and I think as long as you have some resource material around you....it'll come out great! I like the very original look you're giving him. Keep at it!!
Are you gonna give him a coat, or just have him bare chested? :)

I will try to give him an open, flaring trenchcoat, like the wind is blowing it around him. I'll experiment a little and see what I get.

thats incerdible work right there..
are you sculpting that without baking it in any stages? because its looking that way, and i can;t figure out how you're adding to the areas (ie the nosepiece on the glasses) so cleanly without damaging the sourrounding regions..
i'll tend to butcher things if i don't bake them first :\

Thank you for your reply. I haven't baked anything yet. I've just been taking a long time to work on the details. Right now I'm struggling with his feet. Making shoes has been by far the most difficult part of this whole deal. I can't get them to look like shoes - they look like bananas with laces.
Has anyone tackled anything like that before?

i like the concept of the tubes going into the chest.also the hair is still in progress right?and a question, how do you get him to stand up right?

His entire wire frame skeleton is drilled into the wood base, so that gives him the ability to stand up. I thought his hair was pretty much finished, unless there are any more suggestions.

I'm happy with the spine of the arms, but that part where the four arms come out is aggravating me.

Yeah, machine parts are very difficult simply because they won't look right unless they are smooth and symmetrical with hard edges. If not they come off as organic. Keep at it man, it's gonna happen.
Don't screw with the hair too much more since I myself find it to look very "anime-ish" and gives it a different flare from the norm. (Never be afraid to be different...even though some people won't accept it) Remember for the "crotch" that a seam will run from the bottom of the zipper at the front around to the top at the back. Just look in a mirror with pants on, and do that pose....you'll quicly see what to do. (Give him a slight indentation in the "butt" too...to remove that "flat-assed" look...you may have to bulk out the butt-cheeks a little bit for that to work) KEEP GOING it's lookin' great!! :chug:

Thanks for the encouragement! :) I have to keep working on those pants, and like you said, try and get the metal parts sharp and clean, though that might be easier to do once its been baked and can be sanded.

Thank you! I love the good doc. He's just so much fun to draw. Classes are really punching me in the kidneys this quarter, so unfortunately he's been put aside in favor of completing other work. But I intend to finish him in my spare moments. I have several concepts for the claws on the ends of the tentacles, but I have yet to model them. What I want to know is, why hasn't anyone else posted fan art yet? I'm sure everyone has their own unique designs for him.

Here's the drawing I'm going to base his claws on. I already can see I'm going to run into problems, but oh well. :)

What is that material? it looks liek plastic.

Its called Super Sculpey, and its quite possibley the best modelling clay I've ever used. It doesn't harden until you bake it.

and were you bake it?

You can bake it in any ol' oven, although sometimes I have problems fitting taller sculptures in the standard kitchen oven.

looking good there
Thanks for introducing me to this place. I think i'm going to really work on my "Tactical Warp" characters much like the inking style of Terris.
I'll get those posted up here as soon as I get around to them.

Just a technicality that I noticed with the drawing of the claws, Doc's lab coat would have to be sewn onto him. Because of the tubes that go from his chest to his back he couldn't just slip it on. The sculpture is comming along great though and I'll check back to see it's progress.

HA! I didn't even think of that. Thanks for being a voice of reason. Oh well. Maybe he sews himself up every morning. Or maybe he's really dirty and never bathes.
I have to acquire some thin wire for his claws, and then I should be able to continue the tentacles. Pants are due for a little reworking too. Argh. I wish I had more time to do these side projects inbetween classwork.
