I had some time to paint.

First I did some quick sketches in OC, the one I liked most was this one.

http://www.clockgear.de/mypage/sketches/bluedragon.jpg

The rest i finished in Photoshop with a default hard brush.

I posed in front of the mirror to get the muscles right.
This one took me about 16 hours, I dunno why, guess i was sitting around thinking a lot as well.
The original canvas size is 2000 x 1675
I had fun and probably i will make more, like red dragon, black dragon and so on.

I call it "The blue Dragon"

now that i come to think about it, it kinda reminds of some comics and video games called turok. They were great. He looks like a character called Tal Set from turok. Again awesome work.

Nice work Randis. Great colors.
If I have one problem with it, I'd say his left index finger needs some bulking up compared to the middle and picky.

Again, good work.
Read "Blade of the Immortal" for inspiration.

Cheers,

Phil

I am a big fan of Blade of the immortal, Vagabond, Ninja scroll and shit. I also have some swords at home. :D

Well, fact is that i do not like some parts of the image, next time i will make it better. I am not happy with his arms, hands, shading and the BG most of all. I did not aim realism much, in fact i wanted to make something vagabond like but i guess i overdid it so it turned out to plastic. I changed the hands one time, in the first version he did hold only 1 sword with two hands. After i changed thehands i realized that i don't like em much but i was to lazy to chang em again, same goes for the BG. At the end i was just happy to fnish the image so i can sleep... So i don't feel i gave it all, then again i think it is good enough for a non prifit freetime thingy.

this pic is pretty awesome, I especially like the way the tatoo sort of melds with his sword from around the back, that is sweet, dude, in both execution and concept.

p.s., I do wonder one thing though, is it me or is his left index finger either bent in a wierd way or is it too long. I only mention it because the contrast is so high there(what with the sky showing through the ring between his fingers) that it draws you interest and makes you look at it. Maybe I'm wrong though

peace

Great work Randis, very nice...

But the thing that most people liked about your painting, I disliked the most...the dragon light.

I don't feel like it's part of the painting...it feels like a mathematically drawn pattern and not something drawn by a brush stroke...I could be wrong, but it's just my feeling. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm feeling some kind of filtering here in this image. If I’m wrong, I apologize.

All in all, great work...but I prefer the original sketch. The pose feels more natural and the character doesn’t seem to be slightly dazed. More purpose to his actions [in the initial scketch].

Keep up the good work.

The artwork is fantastic, but that filter takes away from it in an incredibly large amount.
Eye is drawn to the shiny pretty filter as opposed to what is a very well painted and very clean artwork.

I can understand you not wanting to paint the whole thing and opting for a filter tho.

good work.

A - m - a - z - i - n - g. True inspiration. Awesome colours, great scene, nice pose.

Critique? Hand may look a little too 'lose' for holding a weapon, even if he is a weapons master.

I want to see more. A lot more. If you don't do more, I'll have to come over and break your legs.

just :chug:

the only thing i found was that the mountains (?) in the background lock a bit unrealistic.

I like the 'magical' effect on the 2nd one a lot!
Do continue to make more like these...

Thanks a lot for C&C! I weel keep it in mind next time! Thanks!

Right, i used a filer to generate the blue thing, but hey... who can draw such shit in OC? ;) Also i did not filter on the image, i did it on some separate black BG and i had to adjust and fix a lot in PS.

Thanks People!
BTW, the next Dragon is done.

I had to say something else about this piece. Or not so much about this one in particular but about truly amazing artwork in general.... I don't know how you guys feel when you see artwork of this calibur, sometimes Im inspired, but other times, I want to throw my pencils out the window, put my foot through my computer, flush my wacom tablet down the toilet, and just for good measure, remove all the caps off of my markers!!!! To me there is nothing more frustrating then picturing something as awesome as this in your mind, and failing to be able to execute it due to the lack of skills. I just want to know, does anyone else ever feel this way, or do I need professional help?
