the date's been set, a first glimpse has been caught, it's gonna be a long year.
start your speculations!
f.ex.: what are those gonna do whose shepard died in the last part?

Wonder if they'll remember to include some gameplay amongst the cutscenes this time.

Seeing as how it's not even 2 years between releases, and considering what a huge game it will be, I highly doubt there will be much tweaking of existing gameplay; critics praised the fact that nearly everything about the game was better despite the fact that they ripped nearly all the rpg aspects out of #2.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited, but the inventory management could have been a lot more rewarding that "Find new type of assault rifle and use that forever because there are on stats to it and it's better than the old one" :/

I hope the ME2 DLC doesn't play a big role when transferring over your shepard.

if the gameplay is anything like the shadowbroker dlc, quote "darker, but with more humour too, more complicated enemies" then this is gonna be fucking awesome.
i highly recommend downloading that one btw,i really think it's a good indication on what's to be expected. overall awesome experience.
but yeah,i wonder how they'll solve it for people who didn't get the downloads. although with the shadowbroker dlc i think maybe you'll just get flashback-style decision making in the third part or something. or possibly free download before release? so that more people can get it?
still wondering how they're gonna incorporate the teammembers from the second one, depending on who survived. maybe you'll get an even bigger team? and more squad members to take with you into battle? that'd certainly contribute to the bigger strategy aspect they said they'd wanna incorporate.

I hope the ME2 DLC doesn't play a big role when transferring over your shepard.

I read that it would play some significance if your Shepard were romancing Liara. I also do recommend it. Lol who can resist da blue space chicks.

Yeah, I hated picking just two teammates all the time. I really wish you could play with all at once, like in that one dragon age mission.

I always wanted to see a reaper in action.

GOTY will be between this and Diablo 3 if Blizzard doesn't drop the ball like with Starcraft 2.

I dunno, there was something I really didn't like about Mass Effect that I can't put my finger on.

I only ever borrowed the first game from a friend and didn't get the chance to complete it, but thinking about it now I remember feeling like I spent too much time running and how I wanted to avoid combat like the plague.

Would consider giving it another go though, I really liked the RPG side of it. Oh, and if someone tells me you can hook up with a Krogan I'm sold.

I'm hoping we'll FINALLY get to see Tali's face. I'm worried Bioware won't show it since she was a romance option in Mass Effect 2 and they don't want fans to be like "oh man I had a romance with her in the last game and I totally don't like how she looks without her mask"

That, and I hope it's gonna be bigger than the second one. Yahtzee said it best I think, (im paraphrasing) "while I don't miss the bouncy house car physics, landing on and exploring multiple worlds did give the game a sense of tangible bigness", whereas it was just a lot of corridors that you fought in from time to time.

That's the cool thing about the DLC though, it gives game companies a chance to try out new concepts and see how it sits with fans, like the car chase scene in the Shadowbroker DLC, or the heist in Kasumi's DLC. I'm hoping we'll see more of that type of creativity in the sequel

yeah,I'm really crossing my fingers too for face reveal. i couldn't care less if they disappointed some fans, there's always gonna be some, but i think the majority would be more disappointed if they didn't show it. for one,it would be really good because it'd finally end the fan debate on how she looks, and for the other,it's like somebody said on the bioware forums,it'd be like not showing darth vader's face in return of the jedi. there's just been too much buildup already,it'd be a cheap cop-out not to show it.
gotta say,the car chase in shadow broker was perfect. just long enough to keep you interested, and the dialogue during was hysterical.

Not to sound like a total negative nancy, but it sounds you'll probably still be a little disappointed if/when you see it. Even if she's super hot, you'll probably still be wishing she had some kind of epic wound or a third eye or something :P

possibly. i'd still rather have an official version instead of mere speculation for eternity.

that's an old video, and its probably just evidence that they were/are thinking about some kind of co-op feature. It's not going to be a MMO

apparently they're gonna release some more dlcs to bridge the two games inbetween. yay!

If I have already completed mass effect 2 and download the Shadowbroker DLC what will happen? Almost all the members of my team died. :(

Carnifex

well, you'll have fewer teammembers to work with you.

I was pleasantly surprised by Mass Effect 2. Enough that I will go back and buy the first game. I usually hate games that think they're movies but ME2 at least let you wander around free form in the various hubs, kind of like the original Deus Ex. I think that helped balance out the linear missions and prevalent cut-scenes.

Co-op play in ME3 might be nice. Too few games have it. AI team mates are always frustrating at some point. So why not.

I agree Tali should show her face. Not that I'm a fan. I thought the Quarians were interesting at first, then heard the Geth side of the story. My Shepherd will be sticking with cute little damaged Jack in ME3. If they'll let me. Just give the poor girl a friggen shirt.

In response to Mass Effect 3 turning into an MMO or a multiplayer, someone from Bioware has already commented on these rumors, read about it here

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106157-UPDATE-BioWare-Denies-Multiplayer-for-Mass-Effect-3

I'd also like to see a bit more space politics, it was something that was hugely prevalent in the first game but was absent in the second. In the first, the political implications of being the first human spectre, the diplomatic issues of inter-species cooperation and the way your actions reflect the rest of your species and your interactions with the council were such a HUGE part of the narrative in the first. In almost every mission be it a major plot or a miscellaneous side mission, there was always the feeling that what you did had an impact on the universe, it's the type of thing you don't see in many games. And in the second game, all of that was mainly absent. You were dead for 2 years and when you came back no one really seemed to care, they were just like "oh, hey, I thought you were dead. Sup dude?". All of the characters that were such huge story elements in the first, Captain Anderson, Councilor Udina, Ashley Williams (or Kaiden Alenko, depending on which one you sacrificed in the first) even the Council had mere cameo appearances at best, it felt like you were seeing an ex-girlfriend that you haven't seen in a while "oh hey! we haven't seen each other in 2 years! what have you been up to? Yeah bout the same for me too. Heard you were with Cerberus now..thats uh...cool. So, uh, anyway I gotta go, but we should totally catch up sometime, you still got my number? Cool.". It's just weird to see people who were such a major part of the game the first time around basically blowing you off in the sequel

I'm glad they're denying multiplayer. I didn't read the whole article but Mass Effect should remain single player. Picture this, most of the games path is set along the decisions you make in conversation. that won't work well in a co-op mode...

There'll also be the problem that the co-op member needs to be included in the cut-scenes and have some kind of dialogue for the game to feel genuine: the one thing that made Mass Effect feel completely real is that no matter which team members you have with you, they have their own inputs in conversations, and can even open up couple new dialogue options if you have the right character there at the right converstion... but in co-op mode the second player will just... stand there, and that breaks immersion.

ME3 looks fantastic and I've a good gut feeling that BioWare'll rock faces again.

Yeah, MMO would really ruin the immersion of the whole game, especially if you're unlucky and play with people who tard about.

Just imagine doing the final mission with commander Nasty Shepard in your crew. :nohope:

Holy shit. The. Trailer. Is. EPIC.

Too bad when it comes out, I'll be in my 3rd term at FZDSchool (Assuming I get in of course), which is crunch time and 3 all-nighters per week at least, so I'll probably get the ending spoiled for me.

I guess did correctly guess that the reapers would target Earth first - the human race was the first species (That we know of), that put up such a fight in the face of destruction, and thwarted the reapers TWICE. Makes sense to destroy the home planet of the species that are so resilient, since allowing them to gather strength would make it much more harder to facilitate their genocide.

Btw, I'm calling a "friendly" Reaper that disagrees with what its fellow super computers are doing and tries to help Shepperd. Maybe then betrays Shep to the rest of the reapers.

Also calling that the Reapers make a Faustian Offer with either Shepperd or The Illusive Man on becoming the consciousness of another Human Reaper. Whereas all of humanity was processed into paste, and Shep or TIM get to be at the helm.

Anyway, all mindless speculation, but I'm sooo excited.

Looking forward to it, but I hope it doesn't edge any further into FPS over RPG than the series already has. The villain in ME1 was so real, so human, and the Reaper was the necessary "devil in the background" figure. The second game's villains were soo impersonal and boring. That and character interaction was incredibly limited.

Personally I think "an army of Reapers" is a little unrealistic and takes some of the "powerful beings of universal death" out of the original game's Reaper. It also ends up feeling a little too anime-ish in that instead of the hero fighting one really tough bad-guy, he's fighting an army of god-like bad-guys and still wins.

I dunno, I think after Bioware got bought by EA, they're producing too much(ME3, DA:O:A, DA2, SWTOR) too quickly and their quality is dropping. I saw what EA did to Westwood Studios and the terrible fate of the Command and Conquer series. I'd rather not see Bioware go the same way.
