My name is John I am married, 32 years old and a father to 1 son John Jr. who is 9 this month. I have never really developed any skill at all for art. I have always wanted to be a great pencil artist, but have recently expanded that desire in to digital drawing on my iPad using Sketchbook Pro and my PC using Photoshop.
The problem is right now I am terrible, I do not do justice to stick figure right now but I am committed to changing that. I have been trying to do a minimum of 2 drawings a day on my iPad. My main goal is to be able to draw characters of some sort and correctly proportioned people.
I recently saw a video on Youtube of a man doing a painting of an older man on his iPad and it was one of the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I want to be able to do that.
My main issue right now is I do not have any idea what to start doing first. My study seems aimless as I am not sure what "curriculum" to follow. I was not born with nor did I spend any of my youth developing any artistic abilities so I truly do need to start at a very early level. I am hoping someone here in this community can help me start out right. I am 100% committed to this and I will post everything I do for all to see and be critical of, so long as there is some feedback on how to make it better.
I can not take any in person art classes I simply do not have the time. I am currently in school for Software Engineering and working at the same time so I do my drawing whenever I can find a spare pocket of time. In the next 4 years it will be this way until I complete my Masters then after that I will have more time to commit. That being said I refuse to allow that to get in my way, I can do this I just need someone to tell me where to start.
I thank you for reading this and look forward to a response.
John,
