Heya, new here, kinda, long time lurker etc...
Anyways this is a piece that i'm working on for a student art show at my school, as well as part of my final for my concept design class. the premise is a redesign of little red riding hood based upon the original dark story touched upon in jin-roh. Ive got about a week or two left and would like some comments on where to go from here. Ive got some idea but would like some input. Thanks guys, looking forward to any responses!

I think since your going with the dark aspects of it, definately change the whit to a darker tone. Maybe make it like a picture from, like dark mahogony wood tones or something. Also, you could really put in a direct light source, right now there really isn't one. Maybe have the moon in the background? If you did something along those lines (considering you have two weeks) you could create a nice feel to the whole thing.
Something about the wolf's fur and back just ruin the whole affect of him being sinister, I have no clue how you could make it more...dark?
You could always put the grandmothers bathrobe on him, that would make him quite evil ;)
Really great idea. Love it so far. Make sure you post the finished work!

such sweet style! love the wolf design, ya really fucking nice man.
i think it would look better if little red was looking at the wolf.
the concept is great! it has really nice movement, imo. it needs some sexy rendering to do it justice.

I am LOVING the wolf design!...the concept of red riding hood is also very high but not as original....but that doesn't mean you should do anything wacky with her otherwise you might lose the character of red riding hood and overpower the brilliant wolf design.
Yes, would certainly get rid of the white. Personally...I would make it dark red to tie in with the whole red riding hood theme...but make it dark...and hey, thats the colour of blood which should make it even more sinister!

Aw c'mon fellas! That's not the wolf!! That's gotta be Granny!! :D
Aye I like little red. She looks a little pissed off though. She'd need a little package to go along so she can carry it to granny's.
The wolf, its interesting. The guy had BAD written all over him. Though what would be interesting is if you made him kinda lurking in the shadows instead of being so close to little red.

Ok took some suggestions into consideration from here and other boards, i definately feel that the piece is coming along. Unfortunately I dont have the time to really fine tune this, in fact I need to limit myself to just a few more days on this piece so that I can work on a few others for the student art show at my college. anyways things I know to still do include tweaking the lines in the background and adding red's basket of goodies. however please give me any new crits, also lemme know which border you prefer?

the wolf design is awesome, but it would help if you pushed the golden mean a bit and added a few more details to the wolf (skeleton coming out of the fur or more muscular)
I love the effort gj:D

Really nice. There are still a few areas that could be worked on though. Like you said, you don't have the time, but the fixes I am suggesting shouldn't take too long.
The legs in the first one looked much better (on LRR). Her legs look like sticks now, and they arent very well textured. I think you could go back in there, fatten them out a little, and add some texture to really bring them out.
I really like the second one better, the red like frame. It looks much better than the black one and also it brings out the characters more. I think, though, you could lighten it out more, just a little, and smooth out those lines on it. If you did these, the focuse would turn back to the characters.
Also, the backround is really light, and it looks like a sketch now. It looks like you were going to go back over it later, which I hope you do. It would really bring out everything, and make it look complete. Tossing on some shadows and textures, determining a light source, and everything, it would look great.
The wolfs arm and lower body looked a little more fleshed out in the first version, you could just go in and add highlights and such to the fur and cloth to bring them out again. Something simple.
This, although it may be the hardest and least likely you would do, would change it (For the better or worse, I have no clue). Right now, you have the trees sticking out of the frames. That effect looks really great, a really nice 3D effect that makes it come alive. You may want to have a scrap from the wolf and/or little red riding hood's cloak coming over. Just a little, and very subtle, maybe to add a better atmosphere.
Though it does look like the trees are coming forward, giving a very creepy, lonely affect to it. So maybe just accent that more (if that's what you were going for, because thats what I see.)
Really great job on this. It's really fleshing out! :)

Actually I like the dark black border one best, really blends in nicely...with the reddish wooden one it looks seperate from the image.

this is pretty cool, but the backgroud looks to much like a blurry red or dark brown curtain. it looks kinda fake. and Red's legs are too shaded for the background. actually so is her whole body and the wolfs too. i like the shading fom the first one the best, but whatever. hope i wasn't mean. i really lik,e it tho.

Nice doggie! This pic's got some real potential! I'd say that there is abit to much black in the pic and would like to see some more definition of their forms.
It would be a crime if you didn't finish this! :D :chug:
