Spartan Camp #158 - 50 gestures + Optional "Stilllife Study"

The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 14th of November.

- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!

- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Stillife Study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:
This opens up a wide variety of options. Your reference is life. Bunch up some interesting stuff, you don't have to go for fruit. Digital/traditional, Colour, medium, time frame, any specifics are up to you! Have fun!

50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.

Critting each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference and resources!! Let's help each other get better!

Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

001 - Ref from pixelovely.com
002-004 - Ref from Posemaniacs
005 - I try to "memorized" poses from various ref from internet, books, videos etc. and try sketching the poses/gesture.
006 - Quick still life study

This time I spent more time on the poses as I feel that drawing with tablet on the computer is so much more difficult than with a pencil on a paper.

echo7925: Elephant stylization studies? :D They're funny :)
Some figures of the 005 bunch has a nice feel... better flow or something...
Drawing with a table was a source of frustration for years, then I got used to it... It won't ever be the same than drawing with a pencil but one can redo, undo, overpaint... I need these possibilities badly.

I was absent for long, I really hope I will participate from now on...
It doesn't seem right but here are some half-assed pixelovely animal gestures from the previous week, it feels bad not to include some drawing:

I won't show my messy pencil stuff from the proper time period.

echo7925 - Good effort this week. I see you're doing some of the gestures as silhouettes. I think it's great way to create interesting gestures and poses. The still life is a bit too blurry for me and the colors a bit too bright maybe.

Model gesture drawings from life. 2 ,3 ,5 and 10 minutes, not quite in that order though. Tried to include the face more often.

echo7925 - you varied your studies well! keep this up, and you'll be brilliant in no time i say heh. the still life had plenty of information in it, but i think you should spend more time analysing the values. everything is very bright, saturated. makes my eye run all over the place.

shiNIN - I like the fact that you're tackling animal studies. Perhaps try a few with a quick human figure on/near them?

aprat - Your studies all rock! Love the fact that they are all from life, even the figure studies.

So here i am again!
Doing head studies this week, and afterwords painted my teacup. It's a quick one so i know it's filled with mistakes!

Oh. This is the old thread? Shall I post one for this week?

This is what I did this week:
Oh boy, I didn't realize I've drawn so much this week.. I hope the files aren't too large.
some life drawing from wednesday
http://kriscrash.dk/art/2010/nov/lindanov17.jpg
and a motion study project that I cut into some animations
http://kriscrash.dk/art/2010/nov/manwalk2.gif
http://kriscrash.dk/art/2010/nov/satyranim.gif
but what I really wanted to do was get some dynamics into still drawings, like so:
http://kriscrash.dk/art/2010/nov/kriscrash_kumo.jpg
I also did some construction sketches via Burne Hogarth methods, which I haven't scanned yet.

And uuuh at least 30 weapon designs

The reason I haven't been posting is I rarely scan things quick enough to post them within the same week they're drawn :(

Here's a copied part of my SB:
--------------------------------
It's hard to draw gestures again... and I had serious problems with brush settings in the beginning.
Pixelovely, mostly 60 seconds:

Preston Blair cartoony hands:

And something that was fun :D

Some outstanding studies! I'm also impressed by some of the stillives. Here's a couple of comments and the next one is up!

echo7925; Love the elephants. Interestingly, these stylized ones really do show some of the characteristic shapes. Less is more, so to speak. Useful stuff. The figures look nice, but you seem to struggle a bit with the medium sometimes. Are you giving yourself enough canvas space? I can see you're trying different approaches though, keep that up.

shiNIN; That's.. quite a bit. And I have to say you have improved on these. I believe its apparent in the animal gestures especially. Specifically in the second scan with animals (needed some warmup?) they are organic, lively, and also technically smooth. And more interestingly, this is also bleeding into the human poses.. nice going. The movie clip stuff is strong too!

aprat; I believe the stilllive is outstanding. The shaping of those leaves/flowers is really nice. I know too little of painting.. Those brush marks on the leaves seem very accurate. The model drawings are wonderful. Keep trying to figure out the smooth and 'hooked' shapes. Sometimes I'm not sure whether your crosshatching is indicating form or shadowed areas. It works well for the muscles though.

BlackDelphin; Hey again! Nice job on Bridgman. When you're using cubes, make sure they are actually 'correct', or they may confuse you! Also, (think you're doing this good though) you don't have to follow every single line of his, but its more his overall method and way of analysing that is interesting. I like the mug. It's quick, obviously, but it does show some very effective visual tricks that make it a mug.

krisCrash; No problem! you could see this one as an extension. Nice and organic figures. And is that ink? Some interesting things are happening. They may not be accurately detailed but they are very effective. It's interesting how convincing the top left inked figure looks, with the 'circular drawing'. Nice gifs, how did you compile those? Great creature! nice job on the lighting in the bottom left.

New one's up!

yep, I always need warmup... especially if I skip a few days :(
oh. I thought they were all just bad... yay. I will be better next time :D
thanks ~
