ROUND #220 :: Classic Fantasy Pin up



DESCRIPTION



Classic Fantasy Pin Up


After the blood and gore of the last ChoW, it's time to design something pretty... With a twist of course! This week we will design a classic fantasy pin up! What kind of pictures would the dwarves hang on the walls of their caverns? What images decorate the Red Dragon Inn?

Choose one of these races and design a classic fantasy pinup!
- Elf
- Dwarf
- Goblin

The setting is high fantasy. We will allow variations on the races mentioned above, as long as they are part of the dungeons and dragons basic races to keep it high fantasy. No humans though!

- The style is classic pin up. - Make it sexy, not slutty! Nudity is allowed (though tasteful), but also keep in mind our server for the poll (Photobucket) has strict rules about nudity.
- The pin up can be male or female!

I've been having trouble getting my entry online in such a way that it shows up with the correct entry name. I'm going to try a few ways and hope it works. haven't been to CA in awhile, but I stumbled onto the contest and it sounded like fun.

I only really have three wips, the original pencils, my gray value study, and then the color version.

Voted for the ones that nailed the classic pinup style the most. Would have voted for Zephyri as well. Absolute fav is Thelema's, beauty and beast in one, very tasteful.

It's hard to limit my votes to a few, so I based mine on a few criteria in addition to the usual "I like it". For me, the best pinups have a sense of naughty humor in addition to a deliberate sexiness. My votes go to:

tbaldree: it feels like a genuine pinup ad.
Thelema: Also a very genuine piece, the colors & style are classic.
Sakuranym: more of a modern take, but absolutely adorable.
Vaejoun: One of the freakiest of the lot, and also one of the most beautifully painted.

MittyMandi:: I like the line work on the figure. i believe you could punch your colors a bit more, maybe add one more layer high lights. I really enjoy the playful pose.

Pixletuner::you have a lot of texture in this piece. usually that gets distracting but i think it works for this piece. the water with the leaves floating on the surface is beautiful and I love the bird.

Smolin::i liked yours above most in this round. the familiar nomming on her skirt, the playfulness of the scene is perfect for a classic pin up. great job.

Supervlieg::i think you nailed your anatomy, but i think the rendering is a bit flat. i like the movement you are getting with your piece.

johnannesblomgren:: nice job on the legs, that is not an easy angle to paint. i feel the left ear could use one more splash of a highlight. i love how shes eating the bird, its just fun :rocker:

jashugan::its painted very well. i think the background could be lighter, i feel her skin gets a bit lost as we move up from her perfectly painted posterior. anatomically well executed.

tbaldree::great job! i think you nailed it spot on.

kittymeow84:: i like where you are going with this with the classic pose. i think some of your highlights are in spots that wouldnt be highlights. the hand right near her face looks a bit unfinished.

ArtByZak::i think your sketch/final line work was amazing, that being said im not convinced by the colored version. I personally liked your toned version better.

Thelema::its nice pose. it feels a bit unfinished in spots. i lose some of the details in the hands and the hair. it is a nice composition.

Jager::its absolutely adorable. i dont know if it screams pin up, but it was rendered very well and i love toads so i voted for you. that and the face has this nice subtle emotion.

Xaya::i dont see classic pin up, but i do see a very well painted fantasy heroin. i like your posting format...i might steal it :teeth:

Sakuranym::the skull on her head reminds me of a this manga called soul eaters. i really enjoy you paintings, the playfulness of them really makes the image. that bra cant be comfortable

Vaejoun::nice colors youve got here. watch for your overlapping with your shapes. like with the bubbles and the hook with the hip fin, i feel if you over lap these edges it will give your piece more depth. the texture you achieved with her tail and the scales is really nice.

prepsage::i really like the texture you have in the grenade and who the hell dont love them giant monkey wrenches?!?!

Lots of nice work this round.

The "best" piece, from a number of aspects, was Jager's, but I didn't vote for it. Just did not come across as cheesecake or as a pin-up. But I'd love to see it as a print or an illustration.
