ROUND #220 :: Classic Fantasy Pin up
DESCRIPTION
Classic Fantasy Pin Up
After the blood and gore of the last ChoW, it's time to design something pretty... With a twist of course! This week we will design a classic fantasy pin up! What kind of pictures would the dwarves hang on the walls of their caverns? What images decorate the Red Dragon Inn?
Choose one of these races and design a classic fantasy pinup!
- Elf
- Dwarf
- Goblin
The setting is high fantasy. We will allow variations on the races mentioned above, as long as they are part of the dungeons and dragons basic races to keep it high fantasy. No humans though!
- The style is classic pin up. Some inspiration Pinup1 (http://www.andromedafree.it/sexy/pinupgirls/gallerie/002AlBuell/1/uuu07.jpg), Pinup2 (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-aW5X6pXR6Q/SUKxKsfOcMI/AAAAAAAABAU/sSyACxtGukE/s400/BettyPaige5.jpg), Pinup3 (http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p180/kazkayde/pin%20up%20girls/pin-up.jpg)
- Make it sexy, not slutty! Nudity is allowed (though tasteful), but also keep in mind our server for the poll (Photobucket) has strict rules about nudity.
- The pin up can be male or female!
Have fun and good luck!

Hey, I'm new to ConceptArt, but ChoW seems really fun. I've read the rules and I get most of it, but a few quick questions:
~Where is the Finals Thread
~By post your WIPs, do you mean with you final too on the finals thread?
~Is there a level of skill you must have to submit? I'm scared that I'm not good enough.
Thanks so much! I'm working on it right now, because screw all the homework I have to do, having a drawing urge is so much better.

Hey BigBad, Welcome to the forums. :D
~This post was only put up today, the finals thread will appear soon or closer to deadline.
~As for WIP (work in progress) People just want to see what you're working on so we can give feedback and make sure that you're on topic. Check other finals posts to see what the submissions need to look like. :)
~There is a skill level that is accepted for the finals thread, but don't worry too much about it, everyone is encourage to participate and enter. We'd love to see your work, and the point of this is practice anyways.
I cant wait to see what you produce, good luck. :D

Sure those allowed, as long as the races could qualify as "high fantasy" (dungeons and dragons or Tolkienish). And also, still no humans, to keep things more interesting :)

Pixeltuner I really like her hair! Do you always start painting in black and white?

xLouisaX: Yep, most of the time I start in black & white to get the general value range right. But it's more of a loose guideline because I tend to get to colour fairly quickly. Hence this update :p

Thought of the girls GIs used to paint on the sides of their planes and thought dwarves would do the same with their warhammers.
Plus you never get to see a sexy dwarf.
Still undecided about the girls pose...

Here are my thumbs. So I'm stuck between Elf and Goblin. I see Elves as a respectable race, where a pin-up girl would be outrageous, therefore she'd probably be really innocent.
As for the goblin (girl) she'd be rough and athletic. I'd really want her to be interacting with a weapon somehow, as I rekon men goblins would find this really sexy.

@Pixeltuner:
Would you mind posting a b/w version of the colored picture ? i would like to see how much the values actually changed. With color it appears to be a lot darker, especially in the shadow.
Sorry for the long time off. Still busy with moving and working up stuff from book and game fairs. But I really need to do some stuff again.
This Chow looks like a good chance to do what I am the worst at:
1. Women
2. Humans / skin
3. sexy
Right now I think about the pieces from Vallejo &co. ^^ A lot of more or less nude women combined with all kinds of super muscular barbarians or beasts or both XD

Well you're absolutely right haha. When starting the colouring it occurred to me that I wanted to create a Drow or Dark Elf which skintone is a lot darker
while my b&w valuepass was more suited for an Elf with lighter skin. So there you have it :)

Basic sketches, think i'm going with the top right one or the top left one.
In my opinion the left one looks a bit too much like porn and less like pinup.
Study pinup poses, even when they spread their legs, you rarely see their crouch in a direct view. That wasnt accepted back in the 40s I guess :P

Arthur : I was wondering if someone was going to do a male pinup! Very good, I dig the flowing lines. :)
PixelTuner : I'm just in love with what you have so far! Can't wait to see more!
TheAlchemy : Good luck with the goblin!
Ludic : I actually like the bottom sketch the most. :O The top left seems too pornographic, less pinuppy, and the top right seems pretty dull, compsition-wise. I'm sure you could spice it up, though!
Krizalide : LOVE the colors you have going so far. Keep it up!
Art4All : Cute, simple pose! I love it so far :)
xLouisax : I love the idea of a demure, innocent elven pinup girl - I say run with it!
LAFairy : The face is off, sure, but I love the bubblegum/cotton candy colors :O
Hellbeard : Love the bottom one! Her neck seems to be missing, though. ;)

Arthur two sheds: Loving the expression!
Kittymeow84: Be careful with the eyes. Right now, they looked better in the 1st sketch, like she had them closed, laughing.
Pixeltuner: A sexy one! Can't wait to see it finished.
AndreRuben: Loving the colour combination.
Krizalide: That's got a lot of potential.
Hellbeard: Funny ones! They remind me of the bad witch from the Wizard of Oz.
MittyMandi: Cute one!
LazarusKitty: Cool idea! Be careful with the knee, it looks a bit weird.

tbaldree Good start, lol she has a dragon for skirt? :)
MittyMandi wonderful sketches, can’t wait to see more !
Lazaruskitty Cool style and harmonious colors , thigh is a bit too long compared to the lower leg i think
LA-Fairy Very nice sketch, I don’t think she is too sweet. Weakest point at this stage, legs and feet. As you pointed out. I think the thigh shall overlap lower leg more and the foot can also be partially hidden.
Abrodos beautiful wip her face has got emotion. Perhaps the arms are a bit too long, or the torso to short?

I finally got started.
I've gone for an Elf sorceress pin-up.
I think the top one is the best candidate, but the bottom one could possibly be redone so it could work better. Right now I think the bottom one looks awkward. I have to decide whether she is supposed to be flying or lying down.
I'm trying to keep this at the classic level of sexy, so as not to cross into porn.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

A little progress! Not much. Time to up the resolution and add more detail.
Will work on it tomorrow but suspect a lot of this will get done on the weekend.
Krizalide - looking forward to seeing more of yours. :)
tbaldree - love the idea - it's going to turn out great - cant wait to see colour. I think the composition might be a tad too focused on the jug - my eye is drawn to that more than it is to the pinup. :D
Jager - that frog is awesome! Trust you to bring in a cool, quirky element! ;)
Idoru - definitely needs more hair :) I think the shoulder that's raised is a bit off too - too cramped kinda like the bones are folding into each other. Really like that hand tho - wish I could draw them like that!
Parsakoira - great colours! Woo!

I decided to go with making a sexy goblin girl! You know that goblins are crazy little buggers and totally would be into the whole whips and leather action!
Tbaldree Really nailes the pin up style, will look really great, I cant wait! Plus how much fun was researching Elvgren stuff! I didnt realise how many iconic pin ups were his, or that they had such funny titles to the pieces, great to find a new artist (too me at least!)
MittMandi Awesome, really love your take on the dwarven girl! Shes alot of fun and totally would be on the wall of the mine's smoko room!!

kittymeow — I think all is exceptional but I confess that something about the structure of the face still needs pushing
Krizalide — I like the color choices and the structure of the figure thus far... keep going...
tbaldree — a beer ad! that's spot on! I love the leering/adoring? dragon and the details, the shapes, lines, etc.
LA-Fairy — love the expression, pose, not too sweet, but it feels elongated right now...
HypotheticalBlush — I recommend some reference for the hand, even if it's your own placed in a similar position. It never hurts to have more reference! Otherwise the figure looks "solid" for now
Parsakoira — lovely! it's almost not a pin-up, in a way... so tasteful lol but I enjoy the breathing of your colors, the way they move in and out. The figure is definitely "there" in that environment. (Though I must say she seems a little cross-eyed in her coy contemplation of that butterfly)
matias — very dynamic movement, energy. And BRIGHT color. It will be interesting to see where your gobliness goes from here... Just a point of curiosity... are you going to tweak her costume? Right now I feel it needs something... some flare... maybe she needs a tattoo?
Sorry if I didn't get to everyone... I need to get to my job...

MasterTroglodyte: I love the idea. A peeved fairy pinned to the wall. Nice pun.
Pixeltuner: This beautiful dark elf's position looks to be too directly sexual for the traditional pin-up. That said, I like it a lot. Excellent skin tones, atmosphere and proportions.
Hellbeard: Hilarious. As a pinup I like how, when I first saw it, my gaze went from the butt, up along the back, then to the unmistakeably goblin face. Good for a scare, that. :D
Jager: I see the erotic focus here is the legs, and that works just fine.
As a pin-up it is innocent and erotic at once. Nice.
Parsakoira: She looks sweet. Maybe make her expression a bit happier? She almost looks too determined to be distracted.

Hey everyone! I am ill and not feeling well at all, but as I could not really concentrate on anything, I decided to just draw around a bit. Here is what came out, I kinda like it, even though I don´t know if that´s just cause I´m feeling dizzy.
I feel like it´s much too gray, but I´m not reall able to change that, whatever I do (especially more saturation) seems to make it worse.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' - I love it, it made me lawl, the beer stein is a nice addition
Pixeltuner - The composition's coming along nicely, I really like the color scheme you picked out :)
Ludic - I like the lower pose the best, though it may be harder to draw.
Krizalide - The stance is fun, and the facial expression is nice, sultry but not slutty
Carnifex - Daring with the use of the mirror, I tried drawing with mirrors before and it made my brain itch something fierce.
Art4all - I like the coy feeling in this picture,I like that you went with the red/green composition hard to go wrong with complimentary colors
Tbaldree - The blonde is a nicer look I think, and I'm not sure if i get what's going on with the dragon though? Is it wrapped around her or?
Louisax - lol I think the bow one is funny I'd run with that one
MittyMandy - All i can say is CCUUUUTTTEE!
Jager - I like the expression on her face and the frog looks a bit squished :) in a good way
Matias - diggin the whip lol
Parsakoria I like the second face best, but I do like where you're going with the new one.
MaterTroglodyte - Oh the Angst she should have a pin or something for stabbin.

I'm finally going to do another CHOW! I am so happy I actually have a break in schoolwork to do this. Pinups are one of my favorite things to do! And it looks like I'm not the only one doing a goblin.....maybe I will sketch a dwarf too. I would do an elf, but I have drawn way too many elves before....time for something different! Any feedback is appreciated and noted!

Update again :) Fixed some small proportional issues, worked on textures and stuff and made lighting and colour a bit more euhm 'fantasy'. I kept with the overall scheme but gave everything a bit more 'panache' :D Still not sure about the hair colour though. Might even make it elvish white.

Thanks for the feedback, i appreciate it!
Here is a color update..
I made the head a bit larger and shrunk her body, so she won't look so long.
I like what it so far :teeth:.. but still far from done... I was too lazy to do the hands..:blah:

So much progress going on already!
Andreruben, Hellbeard, Abrodos, Matias, GEB, Ninsta: kudo's for going with an orc! Not easy to pull of I figure. Especially your value only version has a very Frazetta / Boris Vallejo-ish feel to it GEB. Very nice! Matias' orc feels more Elvgren / Vargas pinup though.
LA-Fairy: Very cute! With a user name like yours it's gotta be a fairy. ;)
idoru: A guy pinup! Very rare I think (except for those works in the "Chinese androgen guy portraits"-style I can't remember the name of)
Pixeltuner: You're already this far ? You're a machine, a machine I tell you! Nice progress though. :D Don't know what it is exactly, but she somehow reminds me of Amy Winehouse.
Jager: Heh, cute fairy Jager! Something Tim Burton-ish about her though (maybe it's the frog)
Tbaldree: Oww, very Elvgren! I like it a lot.
Mittymandi: That's such a cute dwarf! Good job, not easy to pull of either I reckon.
Parsakoira: Yikes, you started over? Good call though, this version feels more pinuppy indeed.
I'm currently a bit torn. Wondering if I should go classic pinup with fantasy outfit, fantasy pinup with an attempt at rendering it to look like a classic pinup or something more playful (or a combination) ...

Idoru Yeaah let's get some men inda house!!
LaFairy This is looking amazing, but I think she needs a slightly different skin colour, or perhaps there's a way of making her look more magical, (perhaps glowing?) as she looks very human at the moment.
Ninsta yeah i went for the bow one, changed a bit though! Nice work on yours!
And here's mine. I completely went off on a tangeant. I tried a goblin, but I think I just can't do it! Lol, I want her to be pretty and girly, so perhaps she is an elf? bah!

Good point! Thanks for pointing that out. I was trying new colors.. I like em, but there is something missing. I'll add a glow or different highlight/overlay when i add the wings. Thanks.

I typed a veritable novel... I don't know what prompted the compulsion, and I'm sorry if I left anyone out... I'm also sorry if anyone is offended by any input I provide. I realize I'm not yet a professional and therefore may step on toes more proficient than mine... Alas, I may never be so verbose again...
GEB - Very solid construction! Admittedly I liked your second WIP's values a bit more and I wonder if you couldn't zing the colors a bit more... Otherwise I am envious
Zantillia - I'm a newb also, and nobody has smacked me around for being so... yet. CHOW has been a way for me to try to overcome some of my usual problems and elevate my art. So come on in! The water's fine, and apparently swimming with scantily clad fantasy folk...
Parsakoira - I love where the flesh tones are going! A LOT! And she's definitely more pin-up now :)
Katanasoul - I'm not sure what the issue is w/ your color... I only know your figure looks quite sound and the costume is fantastic, especially for being woozy. :) Just try slapping some colors down intuitively. I tend to put a base color (for the skin, for example) and then based on the hue of my light source modify said color, and so on... (Not that I know very much, mind you)
Ninsta - I have to say that while there's a lot else right with this piece I love her face. Those eyes are so intense yet inviting, and the molding lend the otherworldly aspect of the character a strange humanity. My primary concern is with the visible leg, its shape, molding, etc. and also with the balance of the figure... I assume she's crouching? sitting? Still, lovely direction
lissinator - the composition is great and your character has tremendous attitude and bearing. I'm not sure if I'm splitting hairs but the position/perspective on the head/face? When I first looked at it my antenna went up (no euphemism intended). It's probably nothing...
Pixelturner - Lovely colors... fabulous textures, etc.
LA-Fairy - It's coming along nicely
Xaya - Vava-voom! And oh yeah... sexy blah blah blah... Seriously... I love the flesh tones... especially that deep hue on the left cheek (her left) and the flesh tones juxtaposed with blue, etc. I'm just plain flabbergasted
RicoD - I pick the third iteration but w/o too much going on around the character (which I realize may be difficult, no?)
troyzart - I think the character is charming (does she have a lollipop? oh the scandal) ... Even though I realize this is meant to be more loose/cartoony I think her right leg might need adjustment... and perhaps a slight tweak on the composition? Because my eye is drawn to the legs in front instead of to the face… Of course I could also be talking out of my butt…
Arthur ‘Two Sheds’ – Lovely work as usual, though I may have to put Drain-O in my eyes
matt kohr – You need to just get the heck out of here. Seriously. Now. I need to go somewhere and cry. (Pause) K… I’m back. This is lovely. And I hate you. (I kind of like the placement of the second step more… Can you flip it back??)
prepsage – Wow! Definitely WOW inspired… hehe. Her haircut is my favorite…
Jager – the colors are fabulous… I feel like I’m looking at an old delicious print…
And after all that here's my next WIP, which I know needs more love than I may likely have time to give it 'ere the end...
I appreciate any and all critiques, comments... and I take as good as I dish out ;)

Parsakoira: AWESOME! I loved both pictures, your coloring skills are impressive, and your pin-up is very pretty. My contratulations ( you've got a very nice sketchbook too )
KittyMeow: Lovely work =) her pose and skin looks perfect. You should work a little more in the face and hair imo.
MasterTroglodyte: If you don't mind, I'll say what I think about yours. Obviously you've got nice skills, but your fairy looks angry and not very much pin-up styled. A pin-up girl is a happy and naïve sexy lady, I think you should work a little more on that idea : )
Idoru: Well look here we've got a male! And a very nice one =) Imo I think you should work on him a little more, specially in his head / skull. Also maybe you should add more values on his skin.
Arthur: Another male, but not very sexy to me lol, maybe a female dwarf really gets turned on with him =D Nice work, I like the calendar idea.
Matt Kohr: My fave so far! I love her pose, her face and composition, I can't wait to see it coloured!
Pixeltuner: another amazing work =) Is she a female troll? Anyway she looks awesome, specially her skin. Keep up the good work!
Here's my drow pin-up. I'm not quite statisfied with the hair, I think I'll change it later.

Starting to mess around with the overall composition of my beer calendar -
Got some basic colors and lighting in, did some pose changing with the arm - felt awkward with both up. Shrunk the feet a bit, and switched from a mug to a glass and tried to lighten up/push it back and away from the primary pinup.

I admit I tend to go off-topic w/ these, and you're probably right. I was hoping to poke a hole in the pin-up concept by pinning my fairy to the wall. I didn't think any self-respecting fairy—borrowing from the whole Tink pop culture mythos—would take that lightly or play coy at that point, so yes, she's pissed. Though I've often felt that sometimes a woman is at her loveliest when she's really, really angry...?
I will certainly consider making her masochistic enough to enjoy some level of torture... though I may not have time. As it is, my fairy needs some adjustment to her anatomy; the composition needs work, etc.
Thanks for the critique! It is most appreciated!

here is my take on the subject. a classic elf pin up....everyone focusing on the originality of drawing sexy goblins has left ample space for the obviously unimaginative choise of an elf :P
still a long way to go though...

Kafka Dreams carful here, its almost like two separate images atm. Don’t let the pinup and the face compete for attention, one of them shall be the most dominant. For example you could tune down the face making just barely visible to bring out the pinup and make her the focal point of the picture.
GEB The white palm print really brings her out :) a very good touch, everybody likes a plam print :D The muscles on her back are great to

Well, have made a decent dent in the progressions of the pinup, as it were.
Comments / Crits as follow
Lissinator - Her smug face is awsome, keep it if you can
La-Fairy - She seems a bit angly... maybe try smoothing and rounding a bit for a more feminine look
RicoD - What's fantasy w/out tigers? USE DA TIGER!
xLouisax - Lol :overhere:
Matt Kohr - Jealous, love the expression and movement, my stuff's always way stiff :( the dragon buddy's adorable
Carnifex - Well you could always finish it in your spare time, I have so many chows that never reached the poll lol
Prepsage - Lol leather apron, the foot that's crossed over looks a bit wonky I think it's the ankle is too pronounced making the foot seem backwards, and slope the ball of the foot? (I think that's the front of the bottom isn't it?) I had a helluva time with the foot on mine lol.
MasterTroglodyte - yeah, the foot was a bit wonky, I realized it when trying to bend my foot and was... hmm yeah, and you reinforced it so I wasn't just crazy lol, though i do like to rationalize, so I don't have to change it, lazy like that lol.

jramz75 : Her right arm/shoulder is reading a little funky - and it looks very thin, especially compared to the other more prominent left arm. Also, might wanna use a ref for those feet. :)
xaya I love the bottom wip - the light behind her and all the cool colors... just great! Can't wait to see more :)
buffichar : Keep an eye on your anatomy here - the foot looks too big, and the outstretched arm is a little lumpy. Also, you might want to tweeak your color scheme a tad : at first glance, I thought she was Robin! ;)
lissinator : Those COLORS! <3 Can't wait to see more!
Sakuranym That pose is just darling. The toes are a bit wonky, but everything else looks just great, especially that wonderful expression!
prepsage I like what you have so far, especially the texture on the bomb and the look on her face. You might want to bump up some contrast between her leg/foot and the bomb itself - it's looking a little off now.
GEB I know it's been said before but that handprint is a great touch :D This is coming along just swimmingly!
Kafka I would definitely suggest bringing back your dwarf's saturation and values, then paint the girl on the hammer in some yellow-orange tones to really make her jump out! This is a great concept btw, very creative. :)
Vaejoun I love the pose and composition so far! Is she sitting on a giant hook? :O
Thélema I think this one is one of my favorites so far! I love the contrast of a flowly pretty gown and a BIG OL BATTLEAX. You can tell she's the type of lady to be able to handle such a brute weapon, and look pretty doin' it, too. :) The dress is also very reminiscent of classic pin ups, which gets a big thumbs up in my book.
Jager I love delicate colors you have here... and the flowers in her hair are a great touch.
OKAY NOW THAT I'M DONE RESPONDING TO EVERYONE ELSE. xD
Here's my inks WIP; probably gonna paint in everything else.
I think I'm missing some potential contrast in her booty/thigh region, but I just can't place it... I dunno, what do you guys think?

Xaya: This might be my favourite as of now. Great lighting, good idea with the water and her being about to take a bath. Love it. Makes it a natural setting, which is great for pin-up I think. Her expression is good, I didn't read it as inviting, but then I read it as her conveying a strong message, and then it works quite well. :D

tbaldree – I love the slogan, the expression, the execution. The only thing it needs a stained weathered, poster-y look, like it’s been hanging in a blacksmith’s shop for ages.
prepsage – thanks for the tip!
Ninsta – I agree with Xaya… both on the face and on her right leg… maybe that will help the balance concern I was talking about… Otherwise… lovely and sinister, too
Xaya – I’m still in love with yours: the pose, the breathing color, the not-so-coy expression, the armor (or lack thereof), etc.
LA-Fairy – I feel like you’ve got some conflicts between the sharp wings and soft flesh. As it is the wings pop too much.
Sakuranym – I love the round-eyed skulls, and the details, details, details… the complimentary colors and the design…
MittyMandy - I think the composition might benefit from your character being moved to the right some. She's leaning left and doing so on the left side of your "canvas," which weights it in that direction.
I’ve just thrown some color down. I’m not a painter of butterflies, or even fairies for that matter. I’ve been doing more butterfly searches than I think is healthy. Alas, I will press on…

Adding detail to the face. Think I need some kind of cute creature in there.
Hope I'm on the right track with the face - not using reference - only dribs and drabs from here and there.
Sakuranym yours is going to be so gorgeous - hope you can finish :) I think her toes look a little 'splayed'. If your foot was in that position the toes would naturally curl. Unless they're goblin toes and meant to be like that ;)

Sakuranym - I love the little details - the facepaint, the little skull brassiere, can't wait to see the finished one! Awesome.
MittyMandi - also one of my faves - so cute!
Prepsage - Love this one - just like those old tool calendars!
GEB - badass! The handprint really puts it over the top for me :)
Xaya - I can't wait to see how this one finishes up!
Kittymeow84 - how about a caterpillar as a cute creature? The toadstool puts me in mind of Alice in Wonderland -
Thelema - axe and dress FTW!
Jager - I have a feeling this is going to look super sweet when you've finished it. Lucky frog!
Matt Kohr - Can't wait to see this one in color!
Parsakoira - awesome! Love the rich lighting.
I think I'm about ready to call this one done. Any last crits to squeeze in?

Looking good guys! I really need to check these threads on a more regular basis. I saw tbaldree's submission earlier today (we work together) and it alerted me to this weeks topic, so I thought I'd try and whip up something for a late entry. We'll see if I actually finish, but regardless it's still been cool to see everyone else's stuff.

@MittyMandi:
Yep, shes sitting on a hook. Thought that gives it a nice joke.
I hope I can post a nes step today...I was lazy yesterday T_T
To yours, I really liked the 1st sketches (Post43) in the lower/right corner.
Even though its rough the appears to be so happy, smiling like a sun. ^^ And a really nice flow in the line.
In the new steps, it appears to me that you took a lot of that back, to make it more realistic, but at the same time trying to keep the comic look. That, combined with thick lines and her dwarf-anatomy makes her look a little fat, at least at her butt and legs.
Hope that helps.
@Kitty:
You should open her eyes, that make her appeal way more.
@Thélema:
Nice rendering, maybe some graphical elements adding to the bg-circle ? I have the feeling that somethings missing there.
@Jashugan: Nice, the leg looks a little flat to me, but the rest looks really nice. I hope mine will come out half as good. ^^°

@Neclord:
The legs have some issues, especially the right one looks pretty thick in the upper part.
And I dont think she really fits into the bg. She looks like she is lying on a more or less plane surface, but the only thing there is the tree which hold her butt up, or at least it looks like that.
nice job on the skin so far, try to make it more lively by mixing in other colors.
---
Mine so far:
I overworked the pose, this one goes better with the classic pin up stile.
This time I try to do it propperly. Not starting froom a big mess, but a cleaned up painting. Works good so far, even though the stile gets a little stiff. Maybe it gets a little more painterly in the later.

What spec are you guys uploading at? Mine seems small and the detail is well... Shit. Any tips?
Kittymeow - That's looking sweeeet. Puts me in the mind of Bruce Timm
Jashugan - Wow! Bucksome! Me likey
Thelema - I love this Hollywood elf. Though something about the shape of the axe head is off for my liking
Tboldree - Cheers mate you'r etoo kind. Love the way yours has turned out I think the orange really balances the piece and the stains are a great touch
prepsage
November 5th, 2010, 07:49 AM
GEB: Dropping your resolution to 72 dpi will let you see the size of your piece. Typically I use 72 dpi and 500-680 pixels wide and whatever your length equivalent is. I try to stay below 850 pixels high though. Whatever fits in a standard browser I guess
Vaejoun: I think her further shoulder and breast should be a bit lower than the closer?
Tbaldree: Gahhhwesome! Minor nitpicks-The stout could use a tad more detail to bring it up closer to the level she's rendered. Just some little bubbles or condensation on the glass (I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to stop by a bar to do some "research"). The circle feels just a little bit awkward. Maybe it could stand to be nudged to the right so the top of her head isn't so close to that edge? Maybe smaller?
Thelema: Looks great. There's two small lines on her dress on the bent leg that are sorta just disrupting the elegant flow..
MittyMandy: Hell, you could probably lose the bg if you're pressed for time and go with an ad concept.
Mastertroglodyte: Her limbs looks really stiff atm. You may want to try crossing her arms and relaxing the pose of her legs.
xLouisx: Watch that right forearm. needs some fixin

Mittymandy - Loving the clean lines she's coming on a treat

Heres mine so far. Went rather smooth so far, except for the face. Troublesome as always and didnt find a good ref for that angle. Hope I can make it look good. Still a stiff feeling to it. Maybe it gets better as soon as I use nontransparent color.
Not sure where to go, a lion fish, koi or goldfish maybe. And I need to at more details of course, obviously its rather boring right now.

From the brief on page 1:
"The setting is high fantasy. We will allow variations on the races mentioned above, as long as they are part of the dungeons and dragons basic races to keep it high fantasy. No humans though!"

Sakuranym Yeah it'd probably look better like that! I don't have enough time to change it now though as I'm really busy this weekend :(. Or atleast maybve I could make it look less painful like making it a bigger bow?

Matt Kohr - So nice!
A couple of last tweaks from some of Jashugan's crits at work today ( upper arm flatness and armpit connection point ) , and a bit of detail/clarity work on the glass. Didn't want to go overboard with detail and wanted it to seem painted like an old Guinness ad, so I mostly boosted the contrast a bit, cut a few paint lines in on highlights, and dirtied it up here and there to better integrate with the rest of the background.
I think I'm gonna call it done!

Great round this time, nice to see a good turnout with some awesome pieces! This thing's kept me up til 4;30am, so will leave a couple of comments, but must get some sleep!
@Lucyohlucy: welcome, and nice starting post! I really like the unusual body type you've given her. if I ahd one crit, it would be to maybe make some of the shadows on her face a touch darker to match those on her body, as it's feeling the flattest part at the moment.
@MittyMandi Lovely sybtle pin up for the female dwarf. I did consider the same subject matter but wussed out!
@Supervlieg: Nice start, she's got some real attitude! The arm on the viewer's left feels alittle short atm, but that might just be down to wip lack of form.
@Mincx: she scares the hell outta me, but i can imagine she's appeal to goblins wonderfully.
@SleepingIn (what I'll be doing tomorrow): So cute, finish it!
@ismo: Really curious pose and expression for a pin up, but I kinda like it!
@Crookedhorn: Nice so far, only thing that feels a little off is the perspective of her legs and the blanket, like one or the other doesn't quite match up, but it's not a big thing.
@lissinator: Not much that stands out to me as the style stands... her pose is nicely balanced. I'd say if you grab a moment tomorrow maybe give the axe a little more love?
@Lianti: I prefer the colour version myself, the skin colours are almost iridescent. Her head feels a bit far forward, if you imagine that either side of her neck has to connect to her ears... the far side of her head is quite far over. Love the duster!
@Snootchy: Heheh it reads much more like water atm, you'd probably need to work it a helluva lot to get that to work as satin! Shame you won't finish!
@Sakuranym: I adore your style and sesne of design... it's so much fun to look at! I friggin' love that overblown cranium on the skull under her seat. Only teeeeensy thing that weirds me out a bit is the fact i can only see her toes as cow's udders now cause of their shape and shinyness! but gorgeous otherwise.
Aaand here's my offering after working most of today on it. About 12 hours work thus far, and really enjoying the process! background and staff are just palceholders thus far, may still change it around a bit.

Home stretch :) Almost there I guess.
And now for some comments:
Geb: Nice, very Frazetta-ish but I think you have some imaginary muscles here and there. Maybe a bit to masculine as well with the broad shoulders and small hips.
Lucyohlucy: Voluptuous gals! Watch her left leg though, it's a bit too big and makes the right one look rather flat
Johannesblomgren: Creepy. Grandma Goblin? :p
Josu: Nice start. Looks more contemplating than sexy though.
MittyMandi: Nice style, and oozes character. Would be a cool cartoon character.
Crookedhorn: I like where this is going. Perspective is a bit odd without a bg though.
Zephyri: Good to see you back here! Nice work as always. She looks a bit likes she's almost tipping over though?
Kittymeow84: Nice warm colours and curves :) Her expression is a cross between sexy and 'OUCH MY EARS, TURN DOWN THAT NOISE' though :p
Threenineteen: Nice idea :)
Jager: I love this one. Maybe make the frog a little less 'lineart' because he looks a bit detached from the girl right now, but apart from that: Lovely :)
Sakuranym: Love your style. Bold and brash. There are some anatomy issues though. The way her arms connect and are lighted, her right leg...
Lianti: Keep it coloured, much more expressive.
Lissinator: Don't know what to say about this really. It's well done, it has a comical feel but it's not really pinupy or sexy?
SleepingIn: Finish this, it's hilarious :D
Mincx: Scary.. really scary. :D
Supervlieg: Nice start, post moaarrrr.
Vaejoun: I really like this one. It looks original, colourful and has good design sense. The only problem is her face looks a bit 'not sexy?' It's more of a clueless expression due to her design. Makes it kinda cute though as well.
Reedux: Nice execution. She looks likes she going the stick that sword in a particular place any minute now though..
Angel Intheuk: This is really gross actually :D But funny nonetheless. Watch her shoulder anatomy :)
Art4all: Nice design on the wings. Anatomy and proportional issues hurt it a bit though. Graphic design tip: If you add a title or border to your image, make sure it fits the theme or style. This doesn't look good. ;)
Parasakoira: Holy sweet colourpalette Batman! I love the way you handle skin :)
Tbaldree: Gimme some of that beer. That dragon's expression really nails the image :D
Matt Kohr: Excellent. Really nice 'avalanche' style. Disney-esque. Did she just pee herself? Watch her left arm. Maybe give it a cast shadow on her body to ground a bit better in space?
I didn't get everyone I guess, but there you go. :)

I'm liking ur sketch the best so far, finished or still polishing (hope the latter)?
Had a bit of time so started to muck around and 1) work out anatomy (time to find some refs cuz the legs and arms giving me mucho trouble) 2) slap some sexy time outfit 3) color if i get time to it
Great entries and hard work everyone !!

Here's mine finished, well, I say finished. I regret that I couldn't make her look more elvish, but I'm glad that I used this as an excuse to study the female torso.
Everybody's pinups look so good!

Xaya - she is beautiful! I love her face and your color palette.
It's been fun peeking in on everyone's entries this week, there is some awesome work in here. I didn't have much time until today to poke at an entry... this is about as far as I got. Was very fun, tho. :)

Damn had no time to myself this weekend to do anything to mine let alone finish :( Think I'll finish it anyway when I can. So many great enteries, it's always interesting seeing the different takes on a theme. Love it!
Pixeltuner - yeah maybe the musculature could do with a good once over, though I figured she'd need to be pretty robust if she got jumped by a gang of horny orcs...

@ Reedux, Pixel Tuner: You're 100% right! Thanks for the feedback. Corrected.
Here's my final -- looking really, really great everyone! This is one of the coolest turnouts i've seen in a while :)

Missed the poll, but I am on to something and don't want to rush...
update: changed up the style, I was going too classic initially and wanted to take it somewhere else. Face and hand close to done (spent a little too much time learning, but totally worth it!)
hopefully will finish up by Wednesday night...busy work week!
