Hi everyone,
I'm really desperate for some advice on what schools to look into. I'm 18 (19 in May!) and I go to community college in st. louis. I'm planning to major in painting or illustration but have no clue where to start in my quest to find the right art school. There are so many to choose from, and they all seem to have very different ways of evaluating students for admission. If anybody has an expierience (good or bad) to share about any school please please please write me a reply. Thanks!!
Jess
p.s. I still can't figure out how to post my work??

no way! I live in St. Louis too! :)
You'll have to put together a portfolio. Then look up when a national portfolio day is coming here. Last year it was in october. This will give you a chance to look at a bunch of different schools and have your portfolio looked at by their admissions reps. I don't really know much about what schools have good illustration and painting, because that wasn't really something I researched, but if you can send away to art schools for their catalouge. I found the MICA people to be really helpful at the national portfolio day, although I don't know much about the school. It's supposed to be quite good.
If you go to www.photobucket.com you can register for free image hosting. Then you can post your work.

well first you got to have an idea of what direction you want to head in.. research a school and see what the recent graduates are doing.. if you like what they are doing, look up other people and see if they have a similar style.. most likely they picked it up from that school...

hey guys,
thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. I have a portfolio together, just have to take some slides of my more recent work. (planning to do it this week.) I actually went to portfolio day at wash u my last 2 years at high school. At the time I think I was too overwhelmed by the long lines and some of the more intimidating admissions reps, so I didn't do a very good job of asking the questions I needed to ask. I do still have alot of the catalogs from different schools so they are helpful. It's just hard to figure out which school I'd benefit most from, and feel the most comfortable at just from looking at the catalogs. but I'm tryin=) Thanks again.
