View Full Version : Pressure Sensitivity Problem

Lately I've been having some trouble with Photoshop and pressure sensitivity that I've never had before. I recently tried reformatting my computer to see if that fixed it but I still have trouble.

The problem happens both in my copy of CS4 and a trail of CS5.

Sometimes the pressure sensitivity on my tablet will not work in photoshop, sometimes it does. When it does at random times a mark I make will not make use of any pressure sensitivity and then the next mark will.

Any suggestions? Thanks

A ton of people seemed to be having the same problem within the last few months. After a bunch of trial and error, changing the tablet mode from standard to recognition fixed the problem completely for me.

Thanks Calypso, it seems to help, but it still happens occasionally. Just so wierd!

When this happens to me, I usually just put my hand on my cheap USB mouse, paint a few strokes with it, and then switch back to the tablet. Usually clears up the confusion and the pressure sensitivity works again.

I was having the same issue. Changed to recognition and seems to improve the issue for the most part.

Thanks Calypso!

I got an older version of the driver and I have no problems now.

was having the same issue, every 10 strokes would be a stroke of full pressure (really breaks the rhythm when painting). went to wacom, downloaded the oldest driver available, 2009 driver. problem solved. cs4, win7 and intuos3
thanks!!

I had the same problem also. Reinstalling the driver didn't work. Instead I removed the driver and installed the last ones. Works perfectly now.

I have and had the same problem. Here's a link to a solution. Once in a while I have to do this after a update is made. But it somewhat solves the problem. And it
ll occur less frequently. Click here and here http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=163246 and scroll to the bottom of this one http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=148876

Hope this helps with the discomforts and frustration that this problem causes.

How to fix this ANNOYING random fluctuating pressure sensitivity issue for Wacom Tablets while using Photoshop, thus ruining your paintings and your motivation to continue using it until you get the freakin problem fixed!!! Sorry, anyway here's how:

Wacom Properties > Tablet (on the top of the window) > double click the icon (usually your tablet's version) > Tablet Mode: Recognition

That took me forever to find. I did the installing/reinstalling Photoshop, changing my graphics card drivers, etc. Thank you for those that posted, you're life savers!!
(Please note, this worked for Photoshop. If you have Painter I wouldn't know).

I'd like to apologize if it is inappropriate for me to resurrect this thread but it just saved me $400+.

I have looked all over the internet to find a solution to this problem and I was about to purchase a new tablet and I just happened to follow a convoluted series of links that lead me here. This absolutely fixed my problem and I felt that I had to thank you guys for that! Thanks so much!

It doesn't look like the Cintiq 12wx has this setting, so I guess I'm SOL :(

I updated my photoshop last night, maybe that will do something. This problem is so incredibly random, I have no idea what sets it off. I made some minor adjustments to a brush I use all the time and never have the issue, but once those adjustments were made (which basically amounted to turning off airbrush & smoothing) it started happening a ton.

Changing modes seemed to fix it for me, thanks you guys. It would have been a bit hard for me to rollback to an older driver as I'm working on a school computer, and need to contact the tech support for things like that.

Are you sure? I was under the impression the new drivers and the control panel for it is the same for all the tablets. It's a bit hard to find though, so just in case you missed it:

If it doesn't work, try restarting Photoshop.

If it still doesn't work or Cintiqs really don't have the setting, I guess you have to install an older driver (http://cdn.wacom.com/U/drivers/IBMPC/pro/WacomTablet_612-5.exe).

Hope this helped.

Jho,
yea that is the exact screen I went into, and there is no dropdown box. It looks like there would be space for one, but it just isn't there heh.

It says on Wacom's docs that not all tablets have those settings though... so who knows. I guess I can try to update my cintiq drivers.

This is seriously the weirdest issue though, it never SEEMS to start happening until I tweak my brush settings, then sometimes it gets REALLY bad, like 1 in 3 strokes are messed up for a while, then other times its like 1 in 100. I really wish they'd fix it!
