Well, this thing is starting to get “done-ish,” so I thought I’d throw it up here in hopes of some feedback. Crits would be great. Thanks to all in advance.

The space up at the top is for the title. It will read, “William Nash Enters… THE GRAVEYARD OF THE ANCIENTS”

WHAT! No replies, come on everyone, the piece is pretty tight as you have said, almost donish. I would just clean up a touch maybe a slight more contrast in the bones and in the teeth, but other than that it is solid.

The clouds look a bit strange. Try blending the different colored edges together more. And as Presence said, more contrast in the bones, plus darker shadows where the bones and the sand meet. It's a great pic!

I think my only sugestion, and this is for the most part a stylistic preferance (but what isn't?) anyway... um, oh yeah, I would like to see more variance of brush strokes. A few small ones in the skull or something, or maybe a more obvious change in the direction of the marks. To me that would make it more interesting.

I checked out your site, nice work.

Presence: Thanks, I’ll pump it up a little more in some of the ribs and teeth.

nikia: Yeah, I think I tried to take a shortcut on those clouds. I’ll take another pass at them.

sea minus: I see what you mean. I tend to forget about my brushwork as a piece progresses. I will definitely try to keep it in mind for future projects. Glad that you liked my site. I’m really looking forward to seeing yours.

woohoo

I admire your endeavor to meld the digital with the tangible.
The clarity you are getting of the different elements in the image is nice. The atmosphere is very desert before a storm-esque and I think that quality really suits the image, and the series you've been working on. Where will dear William go next?
I'm very glad you allow the underpainting to poke through, it really helps the piece maintain it's color, I hope to see more posts of your covers in the future too.
:)
