I've been working on something from my imagination again, and I'm really enjoying how it's coming along. This "GIANT BEE" of sorts is going to have a rider...some accessories, and other cool stuff implemented into it. I have yet to start the wings really. (what you see on the one side there was just for measuring purposes) I'll post up some more pics as I get it closer to being done.

Thanks for looking.:)

hey that's really cool!

How did you make the fur?

I was thinking of doing some giant insects myself -- ants, roaches, praying mantis... They seem made for sculpting ;-) and look cool in closeup.

Nice!

Thanks guys...it's something I've had in my head for a while...and am just getting it out now. I use and exacto knife actually to get the hair to come out like that (maybe a tutorial of my own is in order one day soon), and I've never painted any of my sculpts so far. I probably will one day, but I think I want to get into molding and casting..then paint the copies. Smellybug...thanks...your talents are very inspirational to me.:)

Ok, Here's a couple of pics that show where I am now with this thing. (Been tempted to throw it against the wall a couple times...but I'm not giving up) The bottom pic shows where I think I'm gonna head with the rider. (Just a roughed in version to give the idea) Thanks for looking.

Giottoface- Thank you...the bee is roughly 6 1/2 inches long from nose to stinger.

character- Thanks for the kind words. Actually, I'm not quite sure yet how I'm gonna make the wings. Remember that the wings might not be like a normal bee wings. After all the antennae on the head are exceptionally long, and I'm going to give it a few more "different" flares before it's done. I can't just make an ordinary ol' boring bee now can I? (What's the fun in that?) ;) :)

you try to use wire and celiphane or you could burn the celiphane a bit to change the color/density

really cool work by the way it looks like your going to become a great sculpter one day now your in the really really good catagory

the good war- thanks man...I appreciate you saying so. I never really planned the wings to be like a bee's, but something totally different. The updated pics below show where I'm heading.

Ok, the rider (little boy) is pretty-much done, and the wings are being worked out. I think I'm at the hard part now (finishing it up) and I'm out of imagination for today....maybe tomorrow I can complete this thing. Still have to finish the wings, and tighten some detailing up here and there. Here's where I am now anyhow.....Thanks for looking.

the detail is so amazing. i love the fuzzy texture of the bee. the beastial wings were a great idea. helps give it a more fantasy feel to it. my favorite part is the netting on the side. it's just looks so good overall. do you happen to have a sketch of what it's supposed to look like? i can't wait to see the whole deal.

Shadow Lady- Thank you...actually there were no sketches...I just sculpted what was in my head. I had a lot of fun creating this one, and am greatly encouraged by how much people seem to be liking it.

the good war- Thanks!:chug:

Lots of photos of the completed sculpture are posted at my site...(Brainbug.ca)....thanks for the kind words. I put a lot of myself into these characters and sculpt, (they are quite near to my heart) and I appreciate all the feedback I've received.
I plan to write a story about these characters someday soon, and it's very encouraging to see the feedback I'm getting. Thank you.:)

your gonna make a story? that sounds really interesting. i made a couple of sculptures too...they're supposed to be characters for a graphic novel i will eventually get around to drawing/writing. but i'm really impressed with what you did and all out of pure thought. hehe..i don't think i could do that, since i tend to forget what i wanted to have on my character. but one again...great job.

poly_cube- Thanks!! I really appreciate the feedback. I'm happy with how it turned out too, and it means a lot to me that it is being received so well. :)

Shadow Lady- Thank you, and yes....a story is in my head...just gotta flesh it out on paper. I'd love to see your sculpts one days when you're ready to show 'em. Love seeing others works...especially when they're for something bigger like a story.:chug:

dude if you bronzed that,(lost wax method) i know people would pay some cash for it. If you could put that in a bottle you'd have something sweeter than yoohoo.

Thanks guys...I'm pleased that you like my works.
I used an exacto knife to get the "fur effect".
Thanks for the kind words.:chug:
