Hey everyone,

Sorry for not being active on here for so long, just been too busy w/ work stuff.

Here's a demo i did tonight for my students at Gnomon. I started with a previously drawn line-art, and painted this up in front of the students. Total time was about 1 and 1/2 hours. The line-art and painting were all done in Painter 6.

This painting is a bit colorful tho, because i wanted to show some "mini-paintings" within this big one (since it's a demo, i wanted to cover many bases). I'll post some close-ups to illustrate this point (which probably looks better on their own..haha).

*edit* You can download a higher-res image here:

*cries*

man, 1.5 hours, that is dope.

i love the overall value pattern. i always mess that part up and light each object individually, without giving thoughts to a mother pattern of values first.

emm... would you please assure me you do not draw these lines in perspective freehand?

great perspective and color & light. I really like the different light qualities, too.

the only part that doesn't ring true for me is the reflection of the Restaraunt Jackpot sign. The glass isn't reading as angles and even if it is, I don't see a clear line of sight between the two. Actually, there's one more thing, the closest yellow spur-thing, it looks like the dark grey is vertical on the right side of the image but as it crosses the platform it looks like it flops to horizontal.

I hope this doesn't sound overly critical, I truly am impressed with the density and livliness of this environment!

Hey everyone,

sorry for the late reply. The system harddrive on my main computer went dead last night, so been trying to get that up again.

thank you for the feedback. Glad you guys like it.

Yeah, tons of mistakes in there..haha. I was painting this live, so whenever a student asks a question, i'll show them the answer on the painting....thus the crazy mix of materials, light, etc.

bwkeough: Good eye: yeah, that reflection on lower right is all mess up. I was trying to show students how to use photo-scrap....and yes, that beam close to camera is messed up too.....ahha.....i got confused.

Thanks again for the encouragement. I have to do another demo like this for the weekend....so i'll post that up soon.

Wow.

You're so great, I remember a long time ago when I was 8 or 9 (somwhere around then) I saw this episode of Xmen and it had this terminator-like robot on it but it seemed so much cooler. As soon as I saw this robot I stopped the tape (it was taped from earlier in the morning) and started to try and draw it. I think I still have the drawing around somewhere and I realize mine is very bad but I was so proud of it at the time. Awhile ago, while looking at your site (I can't find it on there anymore) I found your sketches for that same robot.

Turns out I've been admiring your work for much longer than I had known.

Anyways, thanks for drawing that robot!
