well, when I was young, I was convinced that anyone can draw blind folded, as long as he can imagine the picture exactly in his head.
I couldn't prove it until now, but I am willing to try it over and over again.

So here I am inviting you all to participate in this challenge.
Beethoven composed his music while he was deaf.
The def leppard drummer had only one arm and still performed.

So let's see if we can do anything like these guys.

The problem with blind contour drawing is not with the person's imagination, it is with the placement of the lines on the paper. Without eye/hand coordination, you cannot tell where you are placing your lines on the paper, though they may be perfect in your head. What if you take a break? Do you just plop it down and go again? Shit, its hard to study something with you eyes open and not look at your paper and have success drawing it. It's a good exercise, just not all that exciting and very easy to lose interest in when your stuff looks not so good............

well this was an exercise that I wanted to do since I was a kid; in fact I am not a real artist, I am progressing on my own step by step.
But I was searching over the internet to see if this idea is actualy possible or not, so I reach this web site
talking about a blind artist, and I realy liked her work.

So now I know that this is not a stupid idea, and by this way I can have dig out my own style in drawing.
well this is just my opinion,

yeah right, AnarchyAo2. it is amazing what she can do.
now I am trying to practice very basic shapes, like closed circle and squares and equidistant paralel line, and I can not do it. But I am convinsed that it will lead me to something at the end.

can you try it and tell me where did you go to??

mmm... there's is not much of point of doing this if you're not blind. You know what I mean...

What she can do is amazing with her condition, I respect that.

Anyone can "draw", but can they draw accurately? I could draw with a blind fold over my face but you'd probably need photographic memory to even remotely draw an accurate face from memory and blind folded.

Blind drawing is an exercise I did in my drawing classes back in school. Basically we look at a still life and start drawing the objects without looking at the paper...then move on to closing one's eyes completely.

Never got the hang of it, could prolly come up with an identifiable picture, but without proportions. But its cool how some folks can do it really well.

As for this blind artist...I can only say I take my hats off to her. She's quite amazing.

As I was saying, it is time to post some work what ever its quality was, so this was some practice I did while I am working.
The red-circled drawing was drawn totally blind folded; the green highlighted one is with my eyes opened. The rest are some exercises I was trying to do, don't seem to be very successful at it, but hope I will become better soon.

So isn't this a good start????

Um...just go here...until I figure out how to get it onto this...

I find that it is really useful for looking at how shapes form and how lines go. It helps to train the eye and hand for both speed and coordination as well...(these all only took 1-3 minutes)

Also, when it comes to conceptualizing, I've been playing with just closing my eyes and drawing, to get thumbnails that I later develop. This way I stick with an idea until it's on paper, and don't get distraced visually. I guess everybody works differantly. I'll get some of those as soon as get my sketchbook that has them in it scanned...
