I'm getting ready to buy my own domain name and web space and I'd like to know what would be the best. If anyone has used register.com or 1 & 1, I'd like to know what you think. Or if anyone knows of other good places and could share your experiences that would help also. Thanks.

I´m using the german 1&1 and am very content with it. Good speed, good maintenance and affordable.

I use 1 & 1 for my private portfolio site www.zwergenhalle.de and am also content with speed and service. I even consider switching my business site from MCI to 1 & 1 at the moment.

I've been using dotster.com for years. They only charge 14.95 a domain name per year. There are places cheaper but i've found them to be reliable. Network solutions charges 35 a year and i haven't really noticed and difference. The customer service is better at net sol but I've only had to call dotster once in about 3 years. Good luck.

period. I'm using it since 4 years with some friends. They are reliable and I personally never noticed any downtime. And, yeah, it's affordable :chug:
