ROUND #215 :: Insect-based armor design
DESCRIPTION
Insect-based armor design
This round we want you to design an armor for an MMORPG character, using insects as inspiration!
Setting:
Here, humans don’t rule the planet; the insect do. Huge beetles, ants, wasps and more roam the earth, scaring the people away. But since the insect husk is both very strong and light, some brave humans hunt the insects and make amazing armor and equipment!
Design an insect-based armor!
Keep in mind the following:
- You can pick any insect to base your design upon, but make it visible and believable they actually used the insect material to make the armor.
- Arthropod-based designs are also allowed (spiders etc)
- Think of the silhouette, this is a game character and his/her armor has to pop out and be recognizable.
- If you really want to make concept art out of it, also draw the side and back view of your design!
- Be original :D
Good Luck!
--------------------
SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY:
1: You must submit ONE full sized image.
2: Make sure your name and CHOW # are EASILY READABLE on your entry.
3: Use the Standard format (Below);

Anthropods- study estimates that there are between 5 to 10 million extant arthropod species, both described and yet to be described.
Seems like a fairly large pool of material for creating costume designs...

Here is my second enter to character of the week. I went for a more tribal look for the concept, as my reasoning is that if bugs ruled the world, humans would be scattered and left in small tribes using there survival instinct to get by.

You know what, Inside an insect cocoon is a natural air-conditioned.
It can easily ventilate and can protect cold efficiently. If we use it as a cloak, It'll be easy in every condition :)

Wow, a lot of entries and many look good, though only a few hit the topic the way I imagined it.
Like I said, a lot looked good but at least in my opinion, either lacked the clear insect theme or looked a bit funny...Kamen Rider anyone ? ^^
My favs are:
~Baxter:
Beautiful moth theme, for a healer.
The colours are great, the theme is clear and it fits perfectly.
jlafuente:
Concentrated on the design. That's very nice, too and the greyscale is also good, becuse a lot of pictures suffered from too bright colours I think.
RhichLyons:
Awesome work. One of the few ones where you can see the origin of the armor and the armor itself.
Prepsage:
What a nice tank and it hits the mmo style so well.

A lot of great entrys this round and a fun topic- finally managed to parrticipate in a chow again!
voted for...
...Quinn Simoes- It's an intimidating looking tank, I like the asymetric shape of the design. I think this is my overall favorite.
...Veshkau- I like the spider theme and the textures. The design looks more practical than the usual female mmorpg armor. I can relly imagine her fightin for survival in a dark grimy wold infested with giant bugs. But please, resize images so that they fit on the screen.
...jlafuente- Very clean and readable; kudos for doing the side and ack view too. If I were the 3d modeller I would be glad to work with something like this.
...Hellfire- I like the dark mood in this picture and the bizarre design.
...Baxter- Nice warm colors and clean rendering, beautiful healer outfit. Makes me think of an eskimo shaman.

crysse:: i enjoy the design. as a thumb nail though the armor looked like wood, but that might be my small screen too.
anthis:: the armor looks very much like insect parts. i really like the club in the right hand.
benu:: i liked how you used the giant moth wings and the hornets head is a nice head piece.
blanksketch:: nice line work. the armor looks very dangerous
buck remington:: its always nice to see tradtional media in CHOW.
CCP85:: you definitely nailed the colors of an MMO. Loving the duel ended staff!
evil_clown:: the top half looks wicked awesome but his legs look shake-ie. if you make his leg look planted, or sturdy, you will help support the strong, menacing top half.
hellfire:: it reminds me of a sliver from MTG, but like the person wearing it either killed that sliver or is in like a symbiotic relationship. you rendering of the armor is well done.
ian the greek:: epic hunter! i really enjoy the armor design.
janjager:: that quad cross is freaking nasty! i want one:rocker: nice hive/base spot ill.
jlafuente:: spot on. would love to see some color but its spot on.
josu:: i feel that if you developed this style you could do it really well. her body seems so lizard/snake like and i like that.
quinn semoes:: thats ... if i rolled up on.....it looks freaking huge and scary and i would really like to have him as a tank.
veshkau:: i really enjoy the shoulder pad. it is rendered very nicely
baxter:: yeah that pretty much nailed the brief.
prepsage:: i like the sword and everything about this character screams MMO
i think i missed a few but everyone did a great job
i didnt like the face on mine so i repainted it.
