Just for kicks I timed my self to do a model under an hour (model/textures and vertx lighting.) with a HL1 poly limit.
the textures are 256X256 (although I think HL1 weps were lower?)

783 polys (tri) granted I think HL1 models were around 500 for the high detail :P
