Hey all,

Well, I figured I'd take the plunge and face the music, and actually post some stuff. It sucks, but oh well. Anyway, for those of you who haven't read my previous posts, I've only been drawing for a few months, but I plan to go on to art school in a couple of years. So pleace give me some C&C on these. They're not up to your caliber, or even worth your time, but I'd appreciate it greatly. BTW sorry for the ABYSSMAL scans (I really need to get that thing fixed).

A profile of Natalie Portman and errr...an eyeball.

Some concept sketches I did. there's actually alot more to this guys than jsut these. I planned out everything on him (skeletal and musculature structure etc.) but anyway...

mr sadclown,

Don't give up...if you really want to learn to draw really fast...1.)don't give up 2.)draw from life, take a ckass, find a teacher or mentor, &3.) Study from books and literature, in fact check out and do every tutorial and piece of advice you can find...in fact check out the tutorial thread at opticalresonance...itsvery comprehensive. keep at it. good luck.

hey, i got an idea...

if you want to learn how to draw better. DON'T draw fast. well, not at the beginging anyways. before you can do quick sketches and such, you have to have some sort of understanding of what you are drawing.
it's true that sometimes drawing fast helps you draw better, because the faster you put something down on paper, the less filtering it goes through the brain (sometimes we tend to make things up in our minds of what we think it should look like)
but if you slow down and focus on what you're drawing, and figure out what's wrong, (by compairing shapes and fixing them) your drawings will be better.
try to copy a photograph, just to feel what it's like to copy something, spend too much time on it, until you're sick of it. and then see how much easier drawing things become after that.

hope that helped

Thanks Jrr. I appreciate the comments. I've actually been doing what you said to. I know these sketches don't reflect it but form and shape actually come fairly easy to me. It's the finishing part that I can't get. I just can't seem to figure out light and shadow and such. Shading is definitely my downfall (my anatomy isn't that great either). But I'll take your suggestions and just work on one thing for awhile. Thanks alot guys! :)
